Thank you! My poor old Volvo has had quite a few needs these past several months. It's nice to know there's something she's grumpy about that I don't have to bug my husband about. This mechanic's daughter can handle this by herself!

@@PistonShack The car was just cold and grumpy about it. So I let it it warm up while I helped the kids get coats, hats and gloves. It ran great for a full round of errands. If it does get genuinely stuck, believe me, I will be watching your video again.

Check your transmission lock shifter solenoid activation while pressing the brake pedal. Sometimes worn out brake pedal switch can cause solenoid stayed on.

Hey, thanks for the video! I have gear stuck on Park too. Xc90 2006. But: 1. switch works 100% (lights turn red as I press the pedal) 2. no errors in message center 3. solinoid works too, at least I fell vibration as I press the pedal and I see that plastic part with "teeth" moves. 4. gearbox lever button works too, I removed it and center core moved normally as I press the button. 5. I even checked the 19th 7.5A fuse on a side panel near a driver's door. What did I miss?
@PistonShack5 жыл бұрын
Hi bikeman_85 Hmmm... 1) check for any damages to the snifter linkage; 2) look for any liquid spills corrosion on electrical board inside gear selector - very common; 3) test shift look solenoid; 4) disconnect cable from the gear box then try to shift by hand; 5) check wiring harness down to the gear box and TCM 6) take selector cover off and look for any contamination or broken parts. Well, that what I can think right now. Yeah, let me know if you have any questions or what did you found. Cheers!

@@PistonShack Thanks! At this moment I noted that indicator on a dashboard do not show current gearbox selected, it's just blank. It might be a problem with PNP Inhibitor Switch (car do not know which gear I'm at). I've unlocked the handle with a white button press button and are able to drive car. Also, previously I had a problem with a rainwater coming inside an interior, a fuse box #3 (where pedals are) was wet, but I cleaned all strains on fuses there. Which fuses are responsible for gear indicator on a dashboard? Also, there is a red plastic part with a spring and cable (on driver's side, near reset button), it's related to ignition locking mechanism. it's designed to block the ignition key if selector is not in P position. Maybe it works in both ways? i.e. telling the selector that the key is inside and turned to II = Can move to drive mode? As I understood, there are 3 requirements to move gearbox selector from P to any other position: key is inside and in II, brake pedal is pressed, gear selector lever is pressed.

@@bikeman_8527 Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I learned a few new things from you today. Check fuse #24 10A (fuse box in the passenger compartment) but I don't think that is fuse issue - look for the open circuit, poor ground, most likely due to corrosion or broken/lose connection. Check if your get signal from the ignition key lock down to the selector, brake pedal. Locate any moisture spots as rust/corrosion/ water marks ect. Rain water can cost a lot of frustration with electrical circuits and other components. Trace wiring from the spot where you got some moisture down to the shift selector, brake pedal and ignition switch. Can you start the engine with your key? If key isn't recognized or immobilizer defective it can effect gear selector operation. Let me know how everything is going. Thanks!

@@PistonShack Problem solved! The problem was in a cable, coming from an ignition. It was unable to push completely the white plastic button, which unlocks "P". It is working, but missing a few millimeters to complete the operation. Installed a new one and all went fine. Also, CEM seems fine, it was mildly touched by rainwater but no sign of corrosion. While I was fighting with this problem, my car battery becomes empty, and I was unable to start the engine hehe, used another car to ignite. Battery worn level is 45%, so i guess its time to get a new one, especially as winter is coming. Thanks again for the discussion and a video!
