Thanks, nice lesson. I had a smal break of 38 years without doing any Judo. Your dad, you, your DOJO and all your studens and the good work you all are doing brought me back into a Judo DOJO. Evan my 12 year old son is starting with Judo. Tanks a lot for makeing me enjoying again Judo. Best wishes for you and your Judo family

Great video! Has me thinking about subtle adjustments I can make to my stance. Reminds me of what Rickson Gracie describes as "invisible jiujitsu."

Nice and clear explanation. I used to advance with my main hand forward, which got me footswept mercilessly until I stopped.

Cool!!! Just realized you can post with right hand on left shoulder on a lefty , elbow block and grab right sleeve. For some reason i was struck on mainly killing the left sleeve first. Osu!

Thanks! Coming from a boxing background it’s really a learning curve for me to have my right foot as a lead. But I’ve tried doing throws from left foot forward and it just feels weird. Besides both of my coaches are righty’s so it just makes it easier on them if I learn the right handed stance 😆

Hey Shintaro, I have two questions for you. 1: What’s your 3 most effective judo throws in competition. 2: What’s the 3 Best judo throws to practise if you fight a taller opponent.
@VonKripple3 жыл бұрын
As a tall judoka i can tell you my most feared throw is drop seoi nage... get's me everytime and I take a lot of impact when someone does it. Bigger they are the harder the fall rings true in judo

Sweet Im going try this! This is something nobody ever explained to me before 😅 I have a question you could maybe make a video about: what are some techniques/positions that are good to take advantage of as a tall judoka? I'm about 6'4" and I hear a lot about stuff to do against taller oppenents but never vs shorter opponents. Thanks and hello from New Zealand
@364245672543 жыл бұрын
I can roughly tell you without even being tall or too experienced in judo. Uchi mata and foot sweeps as well as osoto (more cross-body/competition osoto than the classic variation taught and not really used). In fact, current judo rules are heavily favoured towards very tall people, since you have longer reach and they can't attack your weak point (long legs = harder to defend leg takedowns) directly. This is imo how Teddy Ryner as well as Daria Bilodid absolutely dominated their respective weight category for the most part, by being much taller than anyone else - just never let the opponent get close enough to do their judo.

@@36424567254 as a short judoka, I hate this advice because it rings true!! ^^ no way to counter a tall uchi mata with those short legs of mine...

What if you are left leg dominant from striking sports, should you force yourself to switch to a right leg dominant stance? Could you perhaps make a video on the topic?
@simonpantera3 жыл бұрын
I do the same in judo. I've heard judokas 'correct' me but I don't see what the problem is- my left hand is forward, which is good for catching their right to control my opponent's sleeve and then go from there.

Interesting. I was watching a bjj/judo instructor demonstrate no gi and had his right leg front with a collar tie on the same side. I was wondering why his stance was like that for no gi grappling and this explains it.

Great video as always. I have a question about major and minor throws. What denotes a major or a minor throw? There are inner and outer throws but I cannot find the logic such as a relationship between the lead leg and the UKE legs? Am I missing something basic? Thanks

This is awesome, but how you address kumikata for BJJ? I've found that I lead with my left and I pull guard with my right hand. Have you done any videos about this with the magic @brian glick?

In right vs. left, if opponent has a low stance, and beats your front right hand and then shoots for the legs, there's no defensive hand to crossface the shoot, as in right versus right. How would you deal with that situation?
