Tai Otoshi was my sensei’s signature throw. At 6th Dan, it was “poetry in motion”.

Same. My sensei did this double tai otoshi variation as well. He did it so easily it was like he was walking.

@@apuzyr ok, not whom i thought, i remember a coach at west point in the early 90s, He taught at a camp i would attend at Williston academy...his tai o was incredible, one interesting thing is his blocking leg was straight and other was bent, i have never seen that again or before, obviously it's the opposite for everyone

About 50yrs.ago at a Buddist temple in NYC {105 ST. Riverside Drive, Manhattan] my brother and I would spend two hrs, 3x's a week practicing Judo. In the beginning, the class seemed too long but everyone got used to it. Long story short, I got drafted into the Army at 20y/o. and after all my training at the temple, Basic Training was, for me, easy.

Great stuff. The idea seems similar to the Ouchi Gari - Tai Otoshi combination: you get closer and avoid the ‘wide’ side step approach.

I would not do it competitively if I were you. I haven't seen that much broken fingers, but dislocation or problems with tendon/bursa are common. If you are just learning and sparring with other non-competetive guys who are not 17 year olds with more power than thought, it's a wonderful sport.
