I would say it's a terrific psychological thriller with a bittersweet note to it, so yeah 😅✌🏻 I suppose "thriller" itself is somewhat a "horror" and only the focus of the genre is different...

Horror isn't always the trashy bullshit everyone says it is, so when horror is actually good, people like the original commenter here try to find another name for it so that they can still keep their bullshit moral superiority in tact. Shiki is a horror first and foremost, it's written by a known horror author, it's advertised as a horror, and it IS a horror. An effective one at that.

If Shikis can also feel pain of being killed in the same way as humans, there is no fundamental difference in death between Shikis and humans. Any attempt to kill them doesn't seem to be justifiable even if the act of killing is a requirement for their survival. There is no necessary reason that death must be burdened on one side for the subsistence of the other side. It is tragic that the characters have nothing to justify their act that they deserve to have done.
