Hindustan Ambassador and Fiat Premier Padmini cars still predominate the streets of shillong back in the 1980's!
Shillong is aptly called the Scotland of the East, for its scenic beauty and beautiful slanting roof houses tightly packed 4,908 feet (1,496 m) above sea level. In 2016, Meghalaya was voted "India's Favourite Hill Station" by HolidayIQ.
The Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians still stands strong in the heart of the capital although the church got destroyed in a fire in 1936. This cathedral falls under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Shillong, which administers similar churches in Meghalaya's Khasi and Jaintia hills.
The jacaranda trees are seen in full bloom. It is heavenly to behold when this purple layer of Jacaranda flowers covers the car tops, paths, lawns, footpaths, and roads of Meghalaya. Some young women are also seen walking down the road wearing kurta with popular Chinese pop hair cut which is now back.
Taxis in Shillong were mostly Ambassador cars, Tata Sumo in the early 80s and 90s. These local taxis are now defunct. Omni vans and Maruti 800 were also popular cars.
