Shimano Baitrunner 8000D

I fished this reel and a 10ft pole off the side of a dock I like to fish. Literally a $400 setup, i brought it to a fishing shop to be properly serviced and had the rod repaired since one eye got messed up. Since that I can cast further than anyone I’ve seen, it’s a freaking beast set up. I didn’t even know about that baitrunning switch thank you sooo much. With striper season about to start it’ll be perfect for when i junk bunker. Thank you so much for the video

@@Igotaturtle I have 20lb braid then use a leader of mono 20 or 30lb depending on what I’m going for. Saw one Video that recommended 15lb braid as well

Then tie on a decent weight. No more than a few ounces or what your rod is rated for. Then using the shock leader so you have more meat to hang on to. Give that sucker a fling and release it at the right time. You would be surprised how far some people can cast. As my last tip....I think accuracy is more important than distance. I have caught fish 30ft or less from where I have been standing, or in a boat, If I present them the bait correctly they take it and run. Happy Fishing!

well...I am not a professional but I will try! First, you should be using a nice size rod. No bass rods. Next, you do not need to have extremely heavy line. If you have 100lb mono it is not going to cast well. Then if you are using either something extremely light (1/16ounce jig) or heavy (9lb downrigger ball) it is not going to cast. Lastly, I recommend the use of a shock leader. A heavy mono leader attached to your main line that is long enough to twice the rod length and 5 times around spool.

That is amazing to hear! I cannot wait to get mine on some sharks and grouper. This reel is truly an amazing piece of engineering. I was only going to buy one reel to suit all my needs and this one seemed to fit the bill! No time for some fishing adventures

I used these quite a bite in the '90s for striped bass when fishing live eels. There's no sound more seductive as when a baitrunner is slowly feeding-out line when a bass makes a soft pickup and starts swimming away. I've been away from Baitrunners for about fourteen years now. I bought an 8000D, as pictured here by you, very recently and was surprised at how 'small' it seems. I guess my recollections have been altered by time. Buying one of these, sight unseen, off of a website on the Internet is a little tricky. Now I want to get a 12000D as I suspect that it ought to be about 50% larger than the 8000D. I even had a 6500(?) (pretty sure it was) that I used for casting plugs of all sizes and it did very well in that respect. Overall the Baitrunners are the best out there for a fairly narrow set of parameters. I have a feeling that I'm going to end up with at least three of these in different sizes.

If I do ever manage to find a G10 I will probably cry like a girl on camera. The chances of finding one, especially on the SURFACE are slim. That is why I have to find a much joy in just a flake knife or broken tip. I wish I had some of the points you have found to add to my collection! They are amazing to say the least! I wish I was on someone's payroll! I think Shimano makes a great product and this was what I decided on after all of my research. As far as hitting the fields. The rain has been nice but the crops are so high that you cannot see anything! I tried to look in a couple of washes with minimal luck. One of my friends found a nice beveled bolen but it was not much after days of looking.

According to the documentation Max Drag is 20lb. But, what you are saying is 35lb. Where this information about Max Drag for this particular reel come from?

I just purchased the Shamino 6000OC Bait runner. I trying to make it right handed but the handle will not pull out! Any suggestions? I have used the older model and when you take the cap off usually it would just pull out.

mine came already right handed so I can't help ya there but they are really good reels though

That is my exact set up! I think I run a 7'6 big water one piece and power pro green 30lb braid. I use a long 20ft wind on leader of 30lb mono with a fluorocarbon end. It is my favorite set up ever. I use it for the beach, the pier, and the boat. I have caught many nice fish. Cheers!
