Dude you sold me on the other video that you are hauling monster with this reel. I just got mine today and boy it cast like a dream and very versatile. I tried on lamiglas insane surf 10footer as well plus 4oz of sinker and cast with no issue. I like the drag sound too!

Haha! 👍🏽 awesome. Feels like it's not in gear but very strong. Definitely my favorite reel.

It's the Phenix 82ML M1 series. I also use a Shimano Teremar TMC-X711MBRA. It's a medium action rod and lots of fun to catch calico bass. It even handled a small yellowtail the other day.

@timbrado1970 the 301d is a little bigger and I'll usually fish 3/4oz - 2oz lead heads and 5-8 inch plastics on my 300d Calcutta. I'll pair it with an 8ft medium heavy rod like the shimano teramar. Might be a bit big for 10grams. I think with the 300d I'd start at around 30grams. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the quick reply.. I think the 201D is better choice for me than, because most of the time i use crankbaits/softbaits and swimbaits up to 2 oz. Do you think the 201D can handle lures up to 3oz? I als would like to know if the 201D has the the same size as a abu 4600? or is the 301D closer to the 4601 size wise? thanks.

@trestim80 I have 2 of the brakes opened to the out position on the opposite sides of each other. If i need to adjust spool speed for bigger or smaller plastic baits then i'll adjust with the side knob. i find that this works for me just fine.

I agree! I have the same reel but 201 (lefty) and want to look into some other rods. What is the model of your M1?

I feel like 1/2oz and 3/4 is fine on this reel. Any heavier I move up to my 300D.

Reelumup what model phenix is that?
@Reelumup7 жыл бұрын
i believe that was the phenix 82 ml. from their m1 series. very strong and light weight rod.

Do you think the 301D series will handle the same small softbaits you use in the video? I'm considering buying a callcutta D, but i.m not sure wich one.. i would like to use is for lures from 10 gram up to 100 gram. i hopen you can help me with some info. thanks.

How big do the calico bass and those species you catch get? Would you be comfortable pinning a 200 size against small tarpon kno the 15-20lb range, and some snook in the 20in range

does the line guide move back and forth when you cast out..or does it remain stationary?

Are you able to throw 1/4 oz jigs with your 200 model? What about 1/8oz jigs what model do you recommend ??? Nice vid
@Reelumup8 жыл бұрын
Hey Joey, I think 1/4 oz would be the lightest but you would need a light rod tip. I like throwing light weight too so I'll usually throw 1/4 & 1/8 oz lead heads with a smaller reel like the curado 200i and a freshwater rod if I'm fishing the harbor for Calicobass or spotted bay bass 👍🏽. I find that a set up like that can really get light weight lures out a little better.

Yo reelump, sick video dude! I fish SD bay, mostly harbor island and coronado, i was wondering if the 300ctD is similar in size to the old calcutta 250, cuz i'm thinking about buying the 300
@Reelumup8 жыл бұрын
I do have the 300D also and love the reel. i mostly fish saltwater, living in socal. I had the old calcutta 400 and i feel that this new calcutta 300D is more comfortable to hold, narrower and the gear upgrade is awesome.Also while fighting a fish you won't have the side to side reeling balancing act you did with the older ones. The 300D is the way to go if you're trying to decide. go into a store and hold one, you'll understand what i mean. good luck.
@Inshoreangler-ps6mw8 жыл бұрын
+Reelumup thanks, i own several of the old calcutta 400, i speed jig and slow jig with them for yellowtail, i also have two calcutta conquest 400 but i dont like em

would I have a problem throwing 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz? also how much line you get on there?
@ericserobyan79738 жыл бұрын
I wanna get a 200d but my only concern is the line capacity. If I spool it with 30lb braid, how much can you fit on there? Im planing on fishing for calicos bonito sheepshead and maybe some small tuna so I'm looking for somehting that can hold like 200yds at least.
@Reelumup8 жыл бұрын
Hello, 40lb braid on this reel will give you 135yds. It doesn't say how much 30lb will fit on it. Here is a link to the specs. But for all the fish you've mentioned on targeting, I think spooling up with 30lb should be fine. fish.shimano.com/content/sac-fish/en/home/products/fishing-reels/overhead/calcutta-d.html

hey I just got the 200 what size fish is it for. small bass or big bass. well I mean can you use big swim baits or more for just reg baits for bass fishing.
@Reelumup7 жыл бұрын
heath schwab congrats! Awesome reel. You can throw lots of sizes. I've thrown 7" plastics with a 1/2 to 3/4 oz. lead head, but I mostly fish a 4 or 5 inch plastic with this reel. Give it a try and see how it feels with different baits. It will also depend on the length and type of action your fishing rod has. Good luck! You'll love it. 👍🏽

Reelumup thanks sir I've been hearing the Calcutta 300 was the reel to use with big swim baits which I got this with a rod just cause a guy needed 20 dollars. didn't no till today what it was worth. So it's my highest prices reel. after a few ambassadors I've collected. but I hope it works good I've been using just reg bass baits. so ill find me some good swim baits don't have non yet. but I run a non prophet kids fishing group so I'm used to cheap rods Reels and Tackle. cause what I buy 9 times out of 10 it will be giving away I'm a Fri or Sat all summer long to great kids I meet and there parents even get free stuff if there disabled and or a parent raising there kid or kids by there self. it's tuff out there and kids need to go fishing not run the roads. So me I never get to buy a good new reel for fishing I find yard sale stuff clean and fix them give away. but I lucked into this one. And my 2 ambassadors. which there for catfishing when I'm in a Boat. but thanks sir. I'm defiantly gonna go try to find a few big cheap lol. yea cheap. swim baits if I can. ide love a big bass. thanks for a quick comment. God bless and fish on. And I'll go watch more videos and sub if you don't mind.

heath schwab that's great! And you got that reel for a steal!! I do have the 300 also and that is definitely the one I lean towards for the bigger baits. Have fun out there and tight lines. And good work with those kids 👍🏽

Reelumup thanks I'm gonna try to find a 300 cheaper a nice lady from KZbin grablifebythefish1 got one for 100 dollars shes gonna be using now for big swim baits. that's what made me go look at my ambassador this morning to find out I had the 200 and forgot about it lol. but if the 300 is better maybe I can find someone to swap never now. well you have fun this weekend. God bless and fish on.

How do you usually leave your breaks set
@Reelumup7 жыл бұрын
Erick Godina I usually find that leaving 3 on and 3 off works great. 6 breaks so I'll turn on every other one, then I'll fine tune using the knob on the outside right of the reel by the handles. 👍🏽
