I'd just add that the lever doesn't seem to be painted aluminum but painted ZAMAK instead. That's why it's whicker and you can see a line right in the middle of the piece, becaseu it seems to be injected ZAMAK (zink, aluminium, magnesium and copper alloy); the XTR seems to be machined aluminum, that's why it''s anodized

@@LoveMTB you're welcome!! Just a little contribution!! I may be wrong but I will tell that when I get mine 😅 Thx for yout video and review!! After watching it I instantly ordered a Deore one 😅 . There's no XTR option here in argentina, so the other choice was a Fox Transfer lever (3x more expensive). Definetly Deore is the one!! Oh and about the material, just be more careful with the Deore, although ZAMAK is still metal, it's an injected alloy, still better than plastic but it will break easier than machined aluminum!

@@LoveMTB yeah I know, but wolftooth, PNW etc charging £70+ for a lever that just operates a dropper post is madness, you can get some hydraulic brake levers for that much and they are a pretty vital to your bike 😂, even that lever for £20 is probably a couple of quid to manufacture the mark up in this industry are crazy and nothing is ever in stock!

It's great to see a cheaper version. I don't get why they call it Alivio, as I have never seen a bike with a dropper post and Alivio drivetrain. This really should be a Deore lever or not have a name like that at all. Especially considering that Alivio brakes don't even come with i-spec EV yet.

@@LoveMTB I just checked on the Shimano website. Alivio seems to have gotten a slight upgrade recently (2x9 Mono lever) but still no i-spec compatibility at all. Alivio also uses M-3100 codes and you can't find this dropper lever in the Alivio category. You can however find the dropper lever in all of the Deore Series (M6100 to M4100) All of them come with i-spec EV brake levers. Alivio doesn't

Just one more proof that getting the snob appealing XTR components is typically a waste of money and less favorable from a durability and usability standpoint. The goal on XTR is to be less weight and more costly. Common folks are better off with the cheaper priced stuff. Bigger place for your thumb is better for your thumb. Paint vs. Anodized is not really an issue. I just ride my bike and want it to work when I ride. I don't care as much about every gram or paying twice as much to say I have XTR. Nice thorough review!

MT500 seems to have a rougher finish with more visible/tactile mold lines, probably a worse quality form for the aluminum or far less post-processing after the part being cast, but I doubt there are meaningful weight or ergonomic benefits going for the MT800, and overall it looks very promising vs. other levers, regardless of price!
