Thank you sir for the video. I have three FX2000s that were bought either locally or on flebay. What I do is replace the bushing(s) on either side of the handle gear with ball bearings. These exact fit bearings can be bought relatively cheaply on the internet and once installed, really firm up the feel of cranking the reel while eliminating the bushing slop.

I am going to have to try that! They should like screeners! Thanks for the tip - Dennis

I grew up with this reel! Ithink mine has to be over 20 years old and the spool bushing is loose as all hell from catching well above 2 to 3 pounders. I even used to down rig with it for lake trout😂 breaks my heart that i may have to retire it and mount it on my garage wall unless i can poach a replacement washer.

Sounds like you got your money's worth! If you measure the bushing you can probably by a replacement from Boca Bearings or Smoothdrag.com

These reels hold up surprisingly well in the saltwater in the 3000-4000 size. Got one for my young nephew to use. Lightweight and comfortable for him to use paired with an ugly stik lite.

It sounds like the perfect fit. They are not overly complicated and they are durable. They can take a beating and you don't need to worry about losing an expensive investment if it goes overboard or sits idle due to lack of interest. Thanks for the comment - Dennis

Thank for this. I have this same reel in "TX" Quickfire II version, with front drag system. It says "2 ball bearings" on the back where I assume the rear drag system is set on those reels. I received this reel as a gift in the late 90s and literally have never cast it since we tend to fish bigger rods and reels for heavier bass on the lakes in Texas. It has been sitting lonely in a garage or closet for over 20 years. I'm assuming the grease inside it is dried out, but I'm going to put it on a very light spinning rod and go fishing!

Thank you sir. Can you check out the Shimano Sedona 1000 fd and tell me why they use square looking gears when you get a chance . Good looking out on the small gear some people only fish rivers and lakes. And maybe you could make some videos to help us out.
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 6 жыл бұрын
I think I have a Sedona and I will check. If by square, you mean elliptical then I have the answer. Many newer reels are going to the elliptical (oval) gears as they claim that it handles the load more evenly on the top and bottom of the stroke. I first noticed these on the Okuma Cedros and have seen it on Shimano and other reels since. The reel does appear to be smoother. I am not sure how they will stand the test of time. Thanks for asking - Dennis

2nd Chance Tackle thank you and I would appreciate it if posted a video on the Sedona. I bought it new and now it's not working and I can't see anything wrong but it just won't spin right . thank you for your time God bless.

I will see what I can do. I don't see many of the smaller reels because I am on the Atlantic coast and the fishing is mostly saltwater and the smaller reels are usually cheap and disposable , so customers opt to replace them versus getting them fixed.

How do you replace the anti reverse cam spring? I have a similar Shimano (Sienna 2000FA) with a broken anti-reverse cam spring (part # RD 3471) but have no idea how to install the tiny little spring). I fabricated a new spring from a safety pin. The fantastic little reel has held up for many years and I'd like to keep on using the 2000FA reel till I'm old and dead.

Bob - I will try, but it is not easy to say as I do not have that reel to look at. I grabbed the schematic from Mike's reel repair. Here is what I would do, not knowing for certain how it goes. The "L" tab faces upward and goes into the hole in the anti-reverse post from below. That leaves you with the long, straight leg sticking outward. I would rotate that leg around in a circle and see where it intersects with the side body. I would then look for either a hole or a stud to other accommodation a little further inward from the intersection point, that would allow you to slip the leg either into it or behind a stud to hold it in place and put tension on the spring. You could then load the spring and the anti reverse lever would work. If you get stuck, maybe you can send me a close up picture of the inner side plate and anti-reverse assembly to 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com and I will see if I can help further. One thing is certain, the spring cannot attach to the side plate anywhere outside of the circle that you get when you rotate it. Thanks for asking - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Thanks for the quick reply Denis. I really like the less complex design of the Sienna 2000FA. It's a really beautiful and simple design and built to last a long long time. However, the little anti-reverse cam spring has got me quite boggled. I'll have another look tonight and possibly take some pictures. Your video on the Shimano FX2000 is really easy to follow and many of the earlier Shimano reels are based on the same design. The insides to my Shimano 2000FA (except the 2000FA has 3 ball bearings) are virtually identical to the FX2000 you used in your video. I find my Penn SS430 is built the same way. Simple, tough, and built to last. Fishing is meant to be a fun and affordable for everyone. Great videos!

One more thing, about tr200g clicking does it have an anti reverse bearing also making the dog a back up for saltwater reels I read that somewere

This reel does not have the anti-reverse bearing. If you go to the the schematics for this reel at schematics.mikesreelrepair.com/albums/shimano/Shimano_TR_200G.pdf you will see the exploded view of the reel and the parts listing. - FYI - Dennis

Hi, I picked up a really nice Quantum heat BCS630 reel at a bootfair for peanuts. Lovely smooth running and solidly built reel. In as new condition. However, it's set up for a left handed person and I'm right handed. In theory, you should be able to swap the handle around, but that doesn't work as when you do that it just unscrews itself when you wind in the reel. I notice it has similar setup to this reel you have there with a plastic knob and threaded stud. Is there a trick I'm missing here or is it just that it can't be made a different hand? Cheers Gareth
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm - we don't have that reel here, but I would agree with you that in theory it should have a reversible handle. Most modern reels are made with the option to install the handle on either side. - Sorry that I do not know - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle I have a shakespeare reel almost the same and that swaps over no problem.. so I guess it's just an oversight by Quantum's designers. Praps that's why this reel was discontinued ! It's a small bait runner and Quantum no longer make bait runners.

Can the clicking sound be stopped during retrieve on a tr200g shimano
@denniskuntz1368
@denniskuntz1368 6 жыл бұрын
Not sure which you are referring to with the click. I think the base answer is no ad it is coming from the anti reverse dog. I will check -dennis
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 6 жыл бұрын
I am assuming you are referring to the click made by the anti-reverse dog and not the side plate clicker. The anti-reverse dog stops the reel from back peddling when the reel is being cranked. It cannot be silenced. The side plate clicker can be turned on and off with the button. - Thanks for asking - Dennis

7:15 there is some kind of locator inside the spool is that meant to line up any particular way?
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 5 жыл бұрын
There are no locators. If you are having trouble getting the spool on, notice that the shaft is not completely round and that the metal drag washers fit the shape of the shaft. Just rotate the spool until the shaft and washers are in alignment and press down. Remember there are more than one washer, so repeat until the spool is seated - Dennis

Hi Dennis, Im referring to a white mechanism which is up inside the rotor assembly Parts 1514-1515-4092-1948 in the diagram below. It seems the white tag on part#4092 is meant to line up a certain way but i'm very confused and the On/Off lever doesn't seem to be working. www.ereplacementparts.com/shimano-fx2000-spinning-reel-parts-c-200301_200302_281569.html

I don't have the reel in my shop any longer. My best reference is that you can briefly see inside the rotor around minute 6 on this video. The plastic piece can only go on one of two ways. One would be correct and the other would be upside down. Just try both and it should work when you have the right orientation. There is no alignment that I am aware of in this - Dennis
