While I've got you... ;) I watched your video about using MTB callipers with road levers, again very useful, thanks! My question is this: Are all Shimano road levers compatible with all Shimano MTB callipers? Specifically, could I use GRX hydraulic Di2 levers with MT520 four-pot calipers, or SLX four-pots, or XT 8100 four-pots?

Your videos are on another level mate, love the detail and step by step walkthrough! Thanks for taking the time to make these 😘 Any chance of making a short video on how to service the bearings in a DT Swiss hub using the locking ring nut to remove the inner bearing behind the ratchet? The tool just arrived and it's my first time using it haha.

I dont get the part about the barb - do you leave it in the end of the brake cable when you put it into the shifter or remove it? is it inserted only when you cut the cable to length?

They should come from the factory with the hose connected to the levers instead of the brakes.

Great video and very helpful. Not a criticism but the black gloves on the black brakes makes it harder to see what you are doing, it blurs the lines. Maybe also so more close up video but like I said it's a really helpful video. Cheers for sharing.

Great tutorial as usual.. Ive just purchased a GRX upgrade for my bike and noticed as with your video.. The rear caliper has no 140/160 packer piece... Is there a reason shimano do this.. Thanks

I don't get this, some frames might not require one. Mine did, quite frustrating when you think you have all the parts to finally build your bike.

@@kevbrown7137 I bought complete GRX groupset that came with 160mm rotors but no rear spacer for 160...go figure. At leat they included the longest adaptor bolt of the three possible which is useless on most frames. Like how much it would cost them to give you all 3 options? Oh and no bleed adaptor, of course.

Thanks for this! I got a question, my friend accidentally squeeze my brand new levers, the yellow seal pops out as well as the oil inside it. When I checked the inside of connector port of the lever, I couldnt find the olive. It is just loosely inside when manufacturer installed it? You think I should buy an extra olive before I bring it to shop for installation? What could be the problem that may cause? Thanks

Anybody know what the 2mm grub screw at the side of the hose connection point is? Locking the olive in place?

Did you cut the head of the cable that came attached to the breaks?
@richardbryanesq4 жыл бұрын
I cut mine because it was too long, and having a hard time getting the system to work right. The needles to use, and the connecting bolts, are not the same for all Shimano brake hose systems. The gold needles and the silver ones are different part numbers and slightly different.

Are you based in Bristol? Sounds like a Somerset accent
@richardbryanesq4 жыл бұрын
Excellent; thank you. I've been trying to get my hydraulic brake system setup and it seems there are two common and different Shimano hose and needle and bolt types. One where the olive is already inside the brake lever, as you've illustrated here, and another where the olive has to be put on. And there are two different needles available depending on which system you have. And different connecting bolts. Very frustrating. Thanks agin for the video. (Maybe use green gloves? Sometimes the parts are hard to see against you black gloves).

I am changing GRX levers from mechanical to Di2 but I am keeping the calipers with hoses. Do I need to cut the hoses parts with old olives and reinstall the pins before plugging the cables? Or will it still work with old olives on the cables? I am assuming there are other olives inside the Di2 levers installed as well.

Always best to fit new olives to the hoses! They may start leaking using the old ones.
