Great review! I also found the SLX discs perfect for XC/Trail riding. For long steep descends the Ice-Tech discs and finned brake pads are the way to go in my experience as they work perfectly together. I noticed that more bikes come with the cheapest RT56 "reisin only" discs and they are just not good. Some of my friends were complaining about their brakes - mostly lack of braking power - and wanted to upgrade but I told them to upgrade the discs to SLX before buying a new set of brakes and that will probably solve their issues. No complains since...

Bought these in 220mm they were cheap at £10 for the RT66 and £12.50 for the RT64 they're not straight at all out of the packed. Considering changing for something better already.

Have you noticed, or did you heard about the "new" RT66 rotors, which are made in China (instead of Japan), differs a bit in weight and finishing (they're stamped, instead of laser cut rotors). If you have access to these kind of rotors, could you make a comparison video with the good old SLX (Japan) and newer (cheaper to make, in China) ones? I personally got my new bike with those "new" rotors, but had no confidence in them, so I quickly swapped out them immediately with some discs made in Japan (fortunately I had a brand new paid in my spare part bin :) ).

I wonder what the weight difference is (or any other difference) between the Centerlock RT-64, and the RT-68 that I recently got. It seems like the Centerlock hub is the cause of the extra bit of weight.
@proskill4900
@proskill4900 9 жыл бұрын
+LoveMTB The CenterLock RT-68, to my surprise, are actually a bit heavier than both the RT-64 and RT-67. I don't know if it's just my digital scale that is giving me reading errors or not. The included locking ring is the exact same one as what you showed in the video. RT-68 160mm: 149g / 5.25 oz. RT-68 180mm: 173g / 6.10 oz.

Hi there! I bought new slx brake setup and I would like to upgrade my rear rotor from 160mm to 180mm. So, is brake calliper adapter for 180mm the only new part I need for this upgrade? Thanks.
@theokalentzis7424
@theokalentzis7424 5 жыл бұрын
Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the size of the rotor will put your brake pads out of alignment and will likely require a spacer to push the caliper further out. You probably won't even be able to mount the wheel after installing the rotor.
@WanderABit
@WanderABit 5 жыл бұрын
@@theokalentzis7424 The last problem is frame dependent, you simply have to have enough space. The first statement is completely wrong, it is flat disc, how come the bigger disc would end up shifted in parallel? If the rotor is bent, sure, but you should true the rotor anyway.

Hello there! Shimano website says, "Narrow type 2piece rotor are not compatible to caliper for Wide type rotor because of interference." (eg BR-M355 brake caliper with SM-RT64 rotor). I'm not sure what it means! Do you know someone who has this kind of caliper/rotor combination with or without issues? Thanks!

LoveMTB hi, thanks for the reply. I've fitted an RT64 with my M355. It felt a little under power (braking power). I think it's because of my inferior brake. I think it's time to upgrade.

that´s OEM package, made for manufacturers and services primarily, but some sellers are able to get their hands on them. They come in a big pack of a hundred and are much cheaper - that´s why it was cheaper than most, because there is no box etc. These rotors used to be cut by laser in Japan, about a year ago they changed that, moved manufacture to China like all of the cheaper rotors and they are pressed out of a sheet of metal. It is still a good rotor compared to RT54/56 (lower grades are absolute rubbish), not as good as it used to be, though.
