If you look at the PDF or exploded diagram of the stella you can get your bearing number. Call Shimano and ask do they have the bearing number. Many bearings are used in several different reel types as its better for them and as I understand it not all Stella bearings are made in Japan anymore. That oil hole does not put oil directly onto the roller bearing as behind it there is a small sponge much like the Stradic FJ as you say. I certainly would not take any of those reels kayak fishing and Shimano will say they are not 100% waterproof. The line roller bearing is very simple to replace and will take you 10 minutes. Stella is a beautiful reel and the problem you have had is not just with Shimano America. If you get JDM stuff be prepared to have to find parts. I think you will find we have that exact model in Australia so look on Australian pages tool. I would firstly take the roller bearing out, get some very light reel oil, wind a cloth nice and tight and pull the roller bearing onto it so it is locked onto the cloth. Flood the bearing while on its side with the light oil and try and turn the bearing race manually with your fingers. THis will get the balls coated in the light oil and you could save it. I have done this before with solid roller bearings. Even with core protect, all the gasket seals and bearings you are going to have to lightly clean and oil everything every time you take it kayak fishing especially in salt water. Good luck it is a very easy service to do,

G BUDDSKI I have the fresh water version. The 2000 and 2500. Shimano fixed my first one for free. The second one is about $40. They replace the bearing. I have the American version. I still love my Stella.

It's a simple fix. open your bail line roller and check your bearing. if you feel the roughness and grinding noise as you roll the bearing, upgrade it to a ceramic orange seal bearing.

You can get the bail roller bearing in a bearing supply store..and you can get different quality bearings ..sealed stainless steel ..different classes..he may have to order it...I've done it on different model that was obsolete and also on the obsolete Newell conventional. .

I know it’s not in the same ball park but I’ve got a 1000 stradic and it makes few funny sounds , clunky at times and randomly scuffing sort of sound . I don’t know what the problem is . It’s a $280 reel in Australia

I had a Twin power from Japan and it says not to open yourself or you void your warranty. but it to was making a noise near the rotor area. well it bugged me so much that I opened it up and lubed the clutch bearing. didn't put a whole lot of lube but just enough, after that the noise went away.

my husband bought diawa reels and they made noise fixed under warranty still not right so he got a shimano twin power xd 5000 best reel ever put in his hand so he bought 2 xd 3000 so smooth he fishes fort desoto and johns pass reels work great i would try a xd 4000 light and strong

all this time,, all it is , is the line roller bearing. Shimano has put cheap bearing inside. the best way to correct the issue is. open the line roller. since the new model you can not a take out the bearing itself, just put the whole roller into corrisionX or reelX , 1/2 day take out the roller spin it, and back in corrisionX/reelx . Then back onto the reel, you noise should be gone. NOTE currently I am working on a hack to replace the cheap bearing.

Nice review thnx. Sustain fg is a good reel but not the reel for a heavy splash with ar switch , tp good reel but so close to saragosa rather than to stella one , stella 5000sw is the one am looking to receive in week time hopefully, daiwa high end reels such as saltiga n catalina with magseel is just killed this tech. When u r far away from nearby service centre where it shines it dims completely. Again thanks so much for showing us the best reels there r .

they are great reels but the twin power and the stella cost way too much. I surfcast in the northeast area and use less expensive reels daiwa bg reels penn spinfishersreels and shimano stradic and shimano saragosa they have lasted about 6 to 15 years with almost no issues.salt water and sand is tough on reels but if you rinse them just with plain water after each fishing trip and service them once a year you should have no problems with them. I have been surfcasting the northeast for striped bass and blue fish for over 25 years so my tackle takes a serious beating.

I reckon, for your case. I would recommend the daiwa expedition 5500h because it feels very heavy duty and made out of metal. Since you are fishing of a kayak, their mag seal oil makes it 💯 waterproof and corrosion resistant. They also have very smooth and heavy drag for big game fishing and has a beautiful drag sound. It also has a WAY better line capacity and will be worth your money. Hoped that helped.😉

I don't know if you have resolved the issue by now, but the JDM 4k model will have exactly the same line roller bearing as the US model. Just buy a new bearing and you should find the issue goes away. As far as the Stella vs TP... Your Stella will outlast the TP by a huge factor. There are a number of shortcuts that Shimano took in order to reduce the price of the TP.

With my experience I never had a problem with a stella, but same with my twin power also being an amazing reel. Never had a problem with roller bearing, your reel must have had a factory error and I also prefer the twin power. Thanks for being honest

For me light game I use a 6k gosa, and for heavier game a 10k gosa fits the needs perfect. I could’ve pitched for a Stella or a TP but for me the gosa and TP felt so similar but with the TP being more expensive, with better parts tho but the gosa is a tank for what it is. Tight lines🤙🏽

Should have got a diawa , lol, na I have a twin power sw 14k and sustain 10000fg,love them I use the sustain for surf and near shore and twin power for offshore tuna up 200lbs, dont have a stella over priced unless your sticky going for giant tuna 50x a year the twin power is the way to go

All I can say is when you strip shimano reels you will realise there are very few reels in their line up. You often pay a lot more for a reel without getting an upgrade other than colour and one bearing that makes no difference. It also depends on size of the reel so a tp 14000 and a stella 14000 not a big difference but people will buy the stella because they are programmed to associate cost with quality and improved performance its just bs designed to take money out of your pocket because you just can't stop yourself from consuming. I have stripped them all and compared them part for part. Shimano make three reels the rest are there to fill the spaces to increase market share. In sizes up to 5000 sustain is all you need for inshore its smooth and drag enough for 5000 size fish. anything larger TP is all you need if the tp can't do it the stella won't either lastly the most under rated reel in history the gosa its a tank, the best sealed shimano if there is any application where the reel gets dunked, abused and used hard the saragossa is without peer including the stella one weakness is the drag which is easy to aftermarket pity the smallest is a 5000. Remember its about catching fish not owning tackle

I have the exact same reel, it sounds like shit compared to my stradic fk when i turn the handle it sound horrible, but still a good reel. The line roller bearing is cheap and easy to change call Professional Sport Shop Inc in new orleans they sell the bearings for 10 dollars and swap it out then put a lil grease on the bearing and the oil feed hole on the bail. I also changed out the drags to carbon drags it comes felt stock order drags for stradic 5000fk and it fits. I have stella 10000 and 18000 also and have to say this 4000 is over kill for anything u need it for but i use this the most because it can be used inshore and for light offshore for pompano and snapper

For Reel Fishing & Outdoors depends on what size your looking to get. If your getting 5000 or bigger I'd say Saragosa but 4000 down sustain

Always go with who using reels for long period of time , daiwa reels r good ones too , alan hawk once put saltiga on the top of his list then completely removed it ! No matter what them reasons were still it should be some where in the list.

Alan Hawk has already sentenced Saltiga series to die for their unobtained magsealed oil and worse service in 2017. And in my country, we are good in breeding dragon groupers for us to fish it, and it could obtain quite a good money above Stella price if set up one. Everyone in the pool tend to use Stella 20000PG about 90% in high-end reel choice. Yes, indeed. There cost down material of Stella, but I thought they heard our voice from 18 Stella all body metal.

Bail arm bearing for sure. Here is how i test mine. Wind with lure in the water. If its noisy cut the lure off and wind with no line. If its quiet its your bail arm roller bearing. Beach fishing or kayak fishing is hard on the non sealed reels.Go the Daiwas for the wetter environments.The bearings in these are fairly generic.The twin power and sustain most likely use the same size roller bearing. There is also an option to get an after market bearing from an engineering shop.

sir...once..i had 4 stellas and 4 tpower..from 8000 ,6000 and 5000 size,...now...frankly...tpower..perform better than stella...for smoothness and others....sadly only 1 tpower 6000 left(2009 model...the best i think) and 2 stellas left...2004 ..3000 model and 6000 swpg(silver gold)..the rest...sold to friends. im back to basics...using the fairly priced 2 saragosa..5000 and 6000.... with no issues at all....perform well ...

Seems like you just got a bad reel, unfortunately you got the JDM model. I've used just about all the Shimano's out there for surf and flats fishing and I've narrowed it down to Saragosa. IMO the best reel in their line up for the money! Saragosa does it all! I also use Daiwa BG and Saltist.

Absolutely zero input relevant to options of buying the reels.Exceedingly subjective based on an incompetent user.ZERO justification of attributes or specifics of each reel.There are legit options to buy JDm because of the options vs those limited to the U.S. market.And whoever pulled the slick one of telling you the 4000 is tighter or packed in tight saltwater use... well, they probably listen to you for reel suggestions lol.
