I have this exact reel.I picked it over the 500 because i can have about 40% more line on my spool (50lbs/460yds vs 50lbs/330yds on the 500 series) so when i catch the fish of my life i will be more ready and it's only 1 oz heavier.Thanks for the great videos!

I actually have the 600 and want the 500. The 600 is awkwardly wide on some of my rods.

Love J and H videos ! Might have to get one of these for bait fishing from the bank. All my other reels have levelwind (I'm lazy) so casting distance won't change. I like that you have to engage the reel with the lever from free spool. My suspicion with reviews on reels that say their reel suddenly stops free spooling on a cast is that they have auto-engage, and the big handle rotates just enough from the motion of the cast to engage the reel. I'm worried about a sturgeon picking up the bait and not having enough line if I use 30# mono. Might have to look at the Tekota.

Can you necessarily use it for a surface iron set up? Like is it just as smooth at casting as the torium?

Yes but the levelwind will limit your casting distance.

You can cast with it but it doesnt have a disengaging level wind like Josh said it will limit your distance .

Picked one of the 600hga up at Richards Tackle in Rosemead filled it with 1300 feet of Max 4 65# over killed I'd but that's what I do . Ask for Evan tell them Peter or John sent You .

The Tekota A is a trolling reel. You could bottom fish, but that was not the design.
