Thank you. This was amazing. I have 7 of these reels and finally needed to tear them apart. Perfect video.

I have a tekota 400HG LC and when the clicker is engaged, when I reel it sounds like a coffee grinder…but when line pulls off the clicker sounds like it’s working properly. Any suggestions?
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
If I were to guess, I would think that the plastic click drive on the back of the spool is worn. It the click is always on when reeling, it could wear down one side of the point more than the other. Since the bait alarm is going in the opposite direction of the reeling, the one side may still engage better than the other and make more noise - Just a guess. I would replace that part on the back of the spool

My fairly new (used twice) Shimano Tekoa took a dip in a sand-wave at the beach near Pacifica. After rinsing with clear water I felt sand grind in my first 1/6 crank turn and immediately STOPPED any further movement. Is it likely that this can be cleaned by me without having to disassemble to every little spring? Perhaps just the crank and external things. Or in your experience is it a full disassembly, cleaning and re-assembly that I should leave to a pro? (I'm an engineer with all the perfect tools for this, but I have not done one.)

My experience says that the sand is inside the reel. There is no way to keep it out as the spool gap on each side provides the entry when a reel goes for a swim. I think you can try to flush it first and then note if the grinding is still there. My recommended approach s to. simply fill a pail full of fresh water and immerse the reel in it. Next - leave it there overnight. A lot of the time, the sand will go out the way it came in just using gravity as the force to pull it out. It is worth a try if you are reluctant to fully disassemble the reel. It that flush does not work, then it will need to be taken apart for further cleaning - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Thanks Dennis! I’ll get it into a water bath tonight. What a great insight into the behavior of sand. At least I have the benefit of guidance from a pro with vast experience-complete with excellent lighting, detailed narration, and in-depth discussion along the way! Just out of curiosity, you mentioned not touching the counter nylon gears, as it’s easy to mess something up there. If there IS sand in that area, would those gears also need to be removed for cleaning? Also, is it possible for sand to get into the counter housing as well? (I haven’t examined it yet.)

This is probably a stupid question; but I assume you need to respool your line onto the reel to sync the line with the guide following the servicing. Is that correct?
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question at all! In fact, most folks would not think of the out of sync condition. You can do this two ways without re-spooling. First, you can manually sync the spool to the line guide by keeping the spool out of the reel and then moving the guide to the center before putting the spool in. Make sure that the line coming off the spool is also in the center before reinstalling. You will also need to check whichaway the line is moving and which way the linguine is moving to make sure you are on the same cycle. The second way to do this if the spool has already been installed is to loosen the line guide cap and remove the pawl, then slide the n]line guide into position before reinstalling the pawn and cap. Again, check which way the line guide is moving - back or forth and which direction the line is moving on the spool - Thanks for asking - Dennis

I wonder if you got a large ziplock or other plastic bag and put the reel and your hands in there while removing the clip might reduce the "escape of the flying c-clip" likelihood?
