I might have missed it, but does this reel have a bearing on both ends of the spool?

Yes - it has a bearing on both sides. The one on the gear side is on the spool. The non-gear side has the bearing in the side plate

Usually your pull the spool out so it can be seen, but I m the way, By the way, I know you have plenty of reels on your plate, but I would really enjoy seeing you break down and go over the engineering of the original rear drag Cardinals - still one of my favorite reels for quality and performance. The only problem was that the plastic spools would blow apart if monofilament was spooled on too tightly without some cushioning backing like Dacron. I remember that they would come with a cork sleeve around the spool arbor to do the same thing, but it often was lost. At a tackle shop I worked at, the summer kids who didn't know better ruined a lot of spools - and thereby reels - so we had to search for new spools high and low.
