That reel is deceptively complicated! I wouldn't have minded a longer video where you showed removing the salt, sand, and dried grease. That can be very satisfying.

The washers you called something else are called Bellville Spring Washers The screws are T15 torque You didn’t service the bearings. The drive bearings get marine grease the spool bearings get oil Did you wipe the excess Cal’s off of the drag washer? You do not put grease in the holes. You grease the screws. You do not have to take the drive shaft apart. Spray it out with brake cleaner. Add a couple drops of CorrosionX then grease the shift button. You didn’t grease between the handle and reel before putting the handle on.

Absolutely top notch work. Do you use PB Blaster for seized screws? Don’t know how it might react with anodized aluminum. What reel grease do you use? Love watching your videos.
@TSGReelService4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. No, I just use corrosion x... then corrosion x with heat, but it doesn't always work well with aluminium on aluminum. You can also try banging it with a rubber mallet... only goal is to loosen the corrosion around the threading enough to back the screw out. I generally use Penn grease. Truly seized screws are rare (for the reels I service), but when it happens, it can be a bit of a nightmare.

Thanks for checking out the video. Yes, there are two versions.... yours sounds like it should just be pried off with a flathead screwdriver (be gentle, but deliberate).... it has an o-ring around the black plate you're prying up. Hi just wondering what the name of the pliers you used to pull the inside bearings with...? Regards Pete
@TSGReelService Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Sorry, the pullers aren't currently available. Try bending the tip of a Penn wrench to get under and pull up the bearings.... you'll have to systematically alternate and pull opposite ends up as you go. Hope that helps.

I think i put those 9 little washers on wrong that go onto the rod that goes through the spool on the clicker plate side. My reel pretty much goes into free spool when i have half drag on it. Do you put two inside of each-other with the cup side both facing the same way then put it cup to cup with two more washers facing the same way? Could you help me out?

Hi, check and follow the schematics for the numbers and orientation so there's no room for interpretation. This is a very exacting reel. If you're having difficulty, even with the schematics, stop, and take it to your local repair shop... explain to them what's going on so they have an idea where to start.

@TSGReelService2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For this one, I'm pretty sure I would have used an ultrasonic cleaner with a purple power/water mix for most of the parts. You can follow it up with an alcohol/water solution bath in the ultrasonic cleaner.... 1 part alcohol to 5 - 7 parts water mix... you don't need a lot. If you don't have that try using a penetrating oil like WD-40 to help break the crud down.

I just did a rebuild on 7 Talicas for a charter captain here in Florida. Bearing replacement is around $50 using Boca Bearings instead of Shimano. You can upgrade to ceramics for $100 per kit. I personally charge $25-$35 for the teardown and clean. Something like this reel would be about $100 in my shop with new bearings and additional for any other broken parts. Its worth it when youre talking about $700-$1000 reels.

Thanks for watching! I personally don't believe in sealed bearings, as I feel they don't work as advertised. However, I do agree that, from an optics standpoint, it would have been nice to do so, as an added argument for the price of this reel. Spread the word about the channel.
