From NZ, semi retired, thanks so much for your very helpful vids. I serviced today a TR200g nearly 30 years old that would not free spool, and it now works fine fingers crossed. Been away from fishing for 25 years and have an arsenal of reels to service including 6 Tiagara's, Tld 25s from the mid 90s to do. All the best to you in these uncertain times.

Dont do what I did with my TR and leverage off the drag adjuster to pop off the handle. Snapped a piece off it because it's plastic. Doh!

A new retiree! Best wishes to him. Retirement was very difficult for me to adjust to but my fishing reel hobby and fishing trips have definitely helped me make the transition. This Triton looks like a very solid reel. Great video Dennis. I’m starting to understand the general construction of a conventional reel though I neither own or use them. They still interest me a lot!

Great video thanks. My 200G was used by my partners son. I was unaware of this. Apparently, as information slowly came known, the rod and reel were dropped into the sea and later retrieved. Without telling me what had happened, they were put back in the rod rack. 3 months down the track I was going fishing with a friend and grabbed the rod and noticed some dried salt that hadn't been wiped off. I tried the reel and the free run lever wouldn't disengage the spool. Time for a strip and look at what could be done. This is the first time this reel has had anything done to it apart from clean and spray with WD40 in the probably 20 years I have had it. Thanks again for the informative video.

I took apart the reel and cleaned and greased it. After I put it back together when I reel it in, the worm gear does not engage. But I can move the worm gear by spinning the spool with my finger. Not sure what I did wrong
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
Hard to say since there are so many moving parts. I would recheck the seating of the worm gear to make sure it is not moving side to side under pressure. If that is not it, check the idler gear to make sure it isn't missing teeth
@lizardgamertv8195 Жыл бұрын
My grandpa helped me put it back together. Now everything works except the drag. We did not grease the drag system so maybe that’s the problem. Or it’s possible that the drag didn’t work in the first place, the reel was sitting in a shed for probably 15-20 years

Can you please do a video on how to set that spring on the lever that you pull down or up to cast I can’t get the spring in to make it click into gear or out to cast
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
I don't have that reel in my shop at the moment. The spring you are referring to is the eccentric sping. The schematic may be able to help you see the orientation. You can get it through the link that follows - Dennis www.reelschematic.com/wp-content/uploads/schematics/Shimano/Triton/SHIMANO%20TRITON%20200G%2890-37%29.pdf

Do you have any videos with you removing the brass driveshaft?
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
I do not have that video but you should find an "E" clip on the inside of the reel plate under the spool. When you remove that clip, the drive shaft should come out. Pay attention to the shim washers when you are removing the shaft. You will need to put them back the same way when you reinstall - Dennis
@danswinton5209 Жыл бұрын
I don't seem to be able to get the large gear off the shaft. It comes up about 1/4" and stops. Any suggestions? Thanks
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
You need to apply equal pressure under the gear from both sides. Try using two flat bladed screwdriver that are on opposing sides. There is an inner gear ring that holds tight and that is why you are having the issue

Hi Dennis!, I recently acquired one of these TR200G, but unfortunately the Handle Nut Plate Screw is stripped badly and is locked in quite hard. Any recommendations to get it out? Thanks! -Duriel
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Is this the hold fast screw? If it is, you can drill it out or file it off with a drummer tool. It is meant to keep the handle nut from slipping, but you can certainly fish the reel without it. If it is another Screw please le the know. - Dennis
@MetalDEmpire2 жыл бұрын
@@2ndChanceTackle The very first screw you remove, at 0:58. Looks pretty straightforward as per your directions to remove it with a Dremel. Thank you again! -Duriel

@@2ndChanceTackle UPDATE: I was, somehow, able to put enough pressure on that screw that was stripped to get a good bite with a screwdriver, and was able to unscrew it right out. Saved myself the extra work. Shimano still sells parts for this reel, so Ill get a new one from em. Otherwise, I followed your guide, greased it up and its ready to rock. Thanks again! -Duriel

Great video. Liked and subscribed. Question - What dry grease do you use on the washers and which grease are you using with that brush to lube other parts? Thanks again, this will help me this weekend with my TR-200G.
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the note and the sub. I use Cal's drag grease and wipe it dry on the drag washers. The blue grease is Penn Precision reel grease. I use that on most of my reels, regardless of the manufacturer. Thanks for asking - Dennis

What type of degreaser do you spray the internal part of the reel with? Thanks

My TR 200-g’s drag won’t tighten regardless of how hard I screw the drag adjuster on, how do I fix this?
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
Sounds like the drag washers too worn or broken so that they cannot hold. You would need to replace them in order to resolve this - Dennis

Hey Dennis! I have a TR200 G that for some reason does not unspool very well. Even with the cap removed. I'm stumped. Should I replace the bushings on both sides? At a standstill. Reel is useable just doesn't unspool worth a darn. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks!
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
I would check the line guide and pawl mechanisms to make sure they are not clogged with dirt or grease first. Try removing the pawl from the line guide and see if the spool spins a lot faster. If it does, you will need to clean the assembly. If it doesn't the problem is likely in the spool - Dennis
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
Of course, this assumes that the drive side is operating properly

@@2ndChanceTackle best of my knowledge it is. It reels up okay. The drag works as it should. Just the spool does not free spin even with the cap completely off.

@@mapquest681 just fixed the same problem on mine. The yolk/gear could not travel on the spindle due to the spindle being seized up. I cleaned the spindle with PB and cleaned the rest of the old grease off the reel. Works flawlessly now, I’m sure you have the same problem.

Hey Dennis ,I’m guessing this reel is similar to a ABU 7000 . How are they as a casting reel ? If not as great in this respect ,could you do anything to improve ? Eg remove level wind , upgrade bearings etc . Any thoughts would be appreciated , Cheers Mate ; Pete
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
This one is not as good for casting as later versions that Shimano developed, like the Corsair, Corvalus, or Calcutta series, which came after the on was introduced in the late 1980's. If you want to speed it up, you could remove the line guide and worm and idler gears. There is not much you can do with the bearing. - Dennis

Try. Ebay and other sites for custom handles. It will be harder to find due to the age of the reel - Dennis

I know I'm late to the party here, but the Power Handle of the Shimano CALCUTTA CT-700B is a worthy option. Part BNT3444 from Shimano's website. I've seen em on the 100G's (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXvMeJWenriliNU), but its just a smaller spool, so I'd recon it'd fit on the 200G.

Is there a difference in the tritan G and the tritan GT?
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
