5:23 - Note that the tension pulley on the Shimano derailleur is covered by the cage plates to a greater angle then the SRAM one. So in effect chain will be guided by those plates much more then on SRAM mech. I gather that SRAM gets similar effect using N/W profile on the tension pulley. EDIT: This bent on the cage _is_ intentional. The return run from the tension pulley to the chainring is very short when running on the big rear cog and on 12 speed that also means very, very hardcore angle of approach for the pulley. That in turn makes drivetrain noisy and causes excessive wear on the pulley. Offsetting the lower pulley makes this problem less apparent. I'll make a video about it, methinks.

The review everyone was waiting for!
@piciu2565 жыл бұрын
This bend in the cage is definitely intentional, once you install (or just look at another 1x drivetrain) you will notice how it would route the chain nicely along the sprocket, in both extremes of the chainline, that means you don't need the narrow wide profile of the jockey teeth, it's not really needed in general, but it helps with durability (I run 1x11 and when the lower jockey wheel is worn, and it wears pretty fast with those chainlines, the chain tends to climb onto it, aspecially in muddy conditions)

Starting to think I should run the XTR M9100 GS cage derailleur instead of the SGS for better clearance. My thought is to pair it up with a E13 11-46 cassette, until the shimano 11-45 12spd cassette comes out... with a 30t chain ring as opposed to my original idea of SGS with eagle 50 and a 32t chainring. Thoughts? How much more effort would the 30t-46t make as opposed to the 32t-50t when climbing...?

Hi, i have an xtr 9000 2/11 and i would like to mount it a a single chain ring. Since i m not super strong , i would need a 50 teeth cog for the climbs, a 46 teeth would probably not be enough for me. What would be my best option to mount this? Yes. The Ultegra 6870 Di2 Rear Mech cage is also bent in the same fashion. I bent mine back. I believe it is a bad design even if it is intentional. No mech manufacturer ever has done such a thing. It doesn't make sense to me. Shimano better answer this question and it better be good.

Thank you for showing this, interesting to see that the dimensions are the same between SRAM and Shimano. I think because of the enormous pizza plate big cog there is no other choice. I had GX Eagle and I found it absolutely terrible on a 27,5 bike, the cage almost touched the ground catch everything and even the grass could bend it. I upgraded it to 11 speed XT and the difference is night and day. I rather train harder and get stronger than buying 12 speed again... 😀
