Fantastic clip! When I was 15 years old I saw this very band the same year (1976) about a week later in Bayonne (France) in a open Roman Amphitheater. The festival opened with John McLaughlin/Shakti, then Weather Report with Jaco, Larry Coryell solo, then Billy Cobham/George Duke Band and finally Herbie Hancock Group with Wah Wah Watson! A unbelievable day...... it was one of the hottest summers on record, and the green moroccan hash didn't hurt the experience either! Memories..............

its Jazz Fusion, or jazz-rock. Nothing to do with modern day cultural-marxist bullshit with terms like 'progressive'. Those of us lucky enough to have lived in the heyday era of the 60's and seventies and were musically cnnected to this music experienced genious and virtuosity on a scale and level unparalleled and unequaled since - which is why it is such a classic era in music.

1:54 modified Precision bass; Alphonso is a great guy--I met him after his Weather Report concert in Detroit in 1974--he was playing THAT bass too. That's where I kind got the idea to modify and add a 3rd pickup to my Ric 4001.

This just shows the level of sophistication and musical communication humans can reach. Takes funk to a whole deeper level. Everything about this performance is perfect. I almost feel like this type of talent, especially amongst a group as a unit is so rare that it might even be extinct. Super tasteful minimoog playing and awesome drum finale. This band should be remembered as a legend.

@@barbudo12 Well sure. It's like there are probably thousands of guitarists technically better than Jimi Hendrix. But Jimi (a) had a unique, identifiable and highly influential sound, and (b) wrote a lot of great songs that the top guitarists cover to this day. Exact same thing with Jaco.

As a drummer of ccm/funk/rock, I can really appreciate the perfection that is Cobham and Alphonso. Scofield is quite nice as well. When you blend these guys together it is like some kind of painting. 3:57 fill was awesome! :) George Duke, I really need to study more on this cat, because I have not seen much of his stuff.
