In the latest episode of Field Trips, I visited our factory, while I was there I thought it would be nice share some insights on Shimoda production. The highlights in this video are what was on the line this day. In the future I hope to share more details that you might find interesting.

As a reseller of Shimoda this is great to see what makes these bags so great. Thanks Ian for the tour and thank you to the men and women who assemble and manufacturer these products. Great workmanship. They might be expensive compared to other brands but you get what you pay for.

I’ve recently bought the Action X40 and I’ve found it to be the best rucksack type camera bag that I’ve ever owned. I’ve got Think Tank and LowePro ones, but they don’t even come close in the comfort stakes. I’ve found that I can carry my Action X40 all day with more kit than either of the other two without any of the fatigue that the others inflict on me - it’s just brilliant 👍🏼🇬🇧

This was so interesting! And it answered a question I had about whether the 'elastic' that retracts the handle on Urban Explore would wear out after a year or two. I never imagined that it was actually a piece of spring steel! Very clever!

Kinda fun to see how my Urban Expore 25 (which I'm absolutely LOVING) was made. Never had a more well made and comfortable backpack in my life, especially when fully loaded. No wonder it feels so well made. Cause it is!

Great bags. My only gripe is the plastic buckles. I think given the price the front waist buckle (at least) should be metal. Mine has broken but is just about still useable but does come open if I tighten the straps too much. Once it finally breaks the bag will be unusable as the front strap is a must given the weight I carry.
@ShimodaDesigns
@ShimodaDesigns 6 ай бұрын
Hi, the belt buckle is easily replaced if it broken. IMO one of the worst places to use a metal buckle is the waist unless required for safety. The belt swings too freely with the extra weight and can scratch/gauge easily, as its stepped on often when your packs on the ground. I'd rather break a buckle than nick my camera gear with a free swinging alu buckle. Here is how to change your buckle out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6SbqYiLnLRnj8k

quality is pretty darn solid for chinese made. but would love for it to be made in united states or canada. especially for the price tag.
@ShimodaDesigns

Chinese are experts in bag manufacturing. The price tag would be greatly increased if made in NA or elsewhere. Shimoda and it's parent company Mac Group is made up of an international cast , we are scattered around the EU, UK, Asia and NA. We would all love to support our local economies and have them made locally :), but not an option at this point. Ian
