Shin Godzilla is a social-critique masterpiece, It blew my head away and made me fall in love with the japanese godzilla series. The first movie too is a total masterpiece.

FINALLY, a review for this film that gets this movie

Shin Godzilla is an excellent film, and it's good to see those who recognize its merit. Great video.

2:50 that montage is still the SDF. The US military only drops some MOP's once that fails, which succeeds in wounding the target for the first time. This leads to Godzilla overexerting itselt and going dormant for several days at the cost of significant immediate damage to the city. This attack is also what provides a large amount of fresh samples from the body for study. The portrayal in this film is not as one-sided as you make it sound.

Thank you for the analysis. Shin Godzilla is without a doubt the best modern iteration of Godzilla. Unlike its western counterparts, Shin Godzilla has actual substance. I had high expectations for this movie and it definitely delivered, since Hideaki Anno's magnum opus, Evangelion is one of my most favorite pieces of fiction of all time.

I fully agree. Watching Shin Godzilla and loving it is the reason I finally gave Evangelion a watch. I don't think I've ever had an anime evoke those kinds of thoughts and emotions in me. Well worth the praise it gets.

They also used the same music as in evangelion lmao. As i was watching it I had no idea it was Anno who made it. The decisive battle theme really caught me off guard

Excellent analysis! I saw the film twice here in Japan and due to it being the number one grossing film of the year here, it's actually STILL playing in theaters despite it being released in July!!

Awesome analysis. This is the kind of review I've been looking for. The subtext of this film was great. It's definitely the film with the most depth that I've seen this year.

Enjoyable video, movie was pretty great to watch, of course having that perspective of watching this as an American it can seem like some of the aspects of the film would be lost on us compared to those in Japan when it comes to current events. That show of force within the movie sure took a while and I'm sure people here in the US probably got frustrated for how long it took to shoot Godzilla. But man Japan's been pretty docile when it comes to military since WW2 and the treaty between the US and them, heck it isn't until today where they're just going through shifts for their military and what then can/want to do. God I love Godzilla

Very thoughtful and spoken review for this film and its why, unfortunately, some fans don't grasp the deeper meaning of the film. Yes, we want to see Godzilla do his thing and it is done brilliantly in this film, but it offers more insight like you have shown in your review and that is why I have enjoyed this film so much as opposed to others who feel there was too much talking - but it is for a reason. Saw the film twice already and was not once bored by it and since they are extending screenings of the film I might go for a third. Thanks for clarifying what some moviegoers are not seeing...

Im sad that i wasn't smart enough to understand the movie when i watched it. I actually had to watch this video and gaijin goomba's video to understand why the movie was like that.

It was in the middle of watching this movie that I truly understood the fumbling grotesque nature of our neoliberal capitalist world. Thank you for the analysis!
