Our worst failures can have meaning and impact that echoes beyond the here-and-now. Let's explore two unfinished masterpieces that have directly influenced their peers, often in surprising ways.

I would love to see someone take all those storyboards and Jordorowsky's script to make a Dune animated series. Maybe Netflix could pick it up.

Side note. I think Gone Home played a role of inspiration in the inspiration of P.T.. Most people assumed it was some type of horror game and felt a little mislead when they realize it wasn't. Although it still had the atmosphere of one and the ability to explore a mysterious house in the first person perspective and interact with objects. Using exploration as a story telling device in the first person

i cant belive i didnt found this one before . i have a copy of dune in my desk pretty old didnt know that was that influencial. Awesome book i read it time to time . Love the box part of the book . Using your sefl control to test if you are human or just a smart animal ... i dont think i could pass such test but still something to think about , how much time we are slave of our nature and finding the line between our true desires or just nature overwhelming us

Really nice vid ... but just one thing, I really like Lynch's Dune and I am not sure why people would dislike it, it is as much Lynch as you can get doing a SciFi movie. BTW I have to say that I am a bit sceptical about the new one, doesnt feel like an Arakis in that trailer ... but I will watch that for sure :) [PS: played Dune 2 game and watched the movie before reading the Herbert's book - could be important]

Really nice video! I liked your comparison of Dune, and how it influenced other Sci-Fi films. I sincerely wish RE7 turns great, as I think it takes all the good elements of PT, as well as having it's own ideas to stand on it's own.

Hardcore dune nerd here, I think jodorowski's dune would have looked pretty and had great spectacle but I don't think it would have been a good adaptation of the book. It's such a cerebral story with so many elements I don't think it could ever be adapted to film properly. Same could be said about many book to film/TV adaptations but dune is on another level imo

If Jodorowsky were more effective and grateful in his procurement of funding, maybe then he would have prevailed. Spending 2 mil with no film to show for it is a crime, and makes me wonder, much like Kojima with Silent Hills or Mission 51 in MGS V, if he ever truly intended to make the movie at all. I've been pondering the idea that maybe - maybe Jodorowsky's true plan was to create as much hype and spend as much money as possible, like Kojima, before being shut down for it. They both pushed their producer-fucking and rebellious narratives as far as they could go. In the end, they each soared too close to The Sun. No Dune, no Silent Hills, no Mission 51.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_and_open-source_software Basically, the Open Source Software movement was doing what Jodorowsky's Dune did, except instead of having just the talented people go on to do things, or have a movie about the resources… All the resources are publicly available, editable, re-mixable! Free for anyone to peruse, modify, improve, break, and learn from.
