The first theme fit the ghoulish, creepy Onryo Hisako. But this one is more noble, more determined, like a guardian. it fits Hisako's nature as a protector who fell in battle while defending her village during a raid, risen once again to do what she did in life.

I was really afraid of how this one would come out. Since Hisako was a new character and had a theme composed by Mick from scratch with that incredibly well done creepy girl vibe (and had "actual" japanese "lyrics" instead of gibberish), I feared what Klayton/Tom would do here -- how would they approach it? And... My fears rest in peace now. This sounds great. Sounds less pissed off and more determined, sounds less rageful but more honorable. The japanese instrumentalization helps a ton. It still gives the ghost vibe though. I am really enjoying what they're coming up with. Man, I can only wish Killer Instinct ends up being good enough for Microsoft that they're willing to invest more money on a next installment. I can only imagine what having the three working together would be like. A man can dream...

Kraahkan Yep, really highlights the difference between a vengeful Japanese ghost and a ghost that's free from her hatred, but determined to protect the world her own way. And yea, I feel you on the next KI game. I'm not excited about Season 4 at all, I believe after the third Post-S3 character is announced, the game is finished development, except for a few loose ends. It's time to move on towards the KI reboot sequel (aka KI4) for Scorpio, and believe me, the first major character they will announce is the debut of Eagle, along with Joanna Dark as the first guest.

Klay puts actual Japanese lyrics in he jumbles and distorts to give a sense of how the character is lost and internally is distorted and a inversion of themselves like seeing your own soul from a dyslexia perspective. Look at how omens /shadow jago theme are darker distort versions of jago almost like the themes are fighting and he’s the demonic side more metal . Hisako being the vengeful distorted spirit of who she was and shin hisako being her transcendental change from a malicious vengeful creature to more of a guardian.

I don't know what people are complaining about. It's a palette swap character, not a replacement. It's good that both themes are heavily distinguished from each other while still emphasizing the same traditional folk-style leitmotif. OG Hisako's theme sounds like grudges being chanted, while Shin Hisako's theme, especially in the last phase, sounds more like pleading towards a rampaging demon. I think each theme works well for their respective character.

A comparable example are the Ninja characters from mortal kombat who used the sect same outfit with a different color, but had different unique mechanics. People like to think early Ryu and Ken when they hear palette swap, but even those two have their unique differences that makes them distinct enough to players.

I think the thing we all need to realise about the difference between good ol' Mick and Atlas+Celldweller is that you'll notice that Season 3 onwards has a much heavier emphasis on the characters origins. Tusk had that epic orchestra you could easily associate with vikings, Kim Wu had those Korean styled strings, Arbiter, Gargos, Eyedol and Rash had their respective themes mixed in and Mira had that sort of vampire duchess feel to it. Honestly it'd probably bode better for everyone if we stopped trying to compare Mick and the Season 3 duo because they're completely different people who work completely differently. Anyway a good theme imo, although it's hard to tell the difference between idle and normal gameplay.

Vivid Impact Sexual Violence Mick went to a monestary to learn throat singing for jago, hisako theme had a japanese vocalist and went with her character, Tj had rap, orchid taunted her opponent and threatened to kill them through her entire song, saberwulfs was just a origin based as mira right along with spinal that even had Swedish vocals. Not to mention great music and properly origin based music aren't mutually exclusive. Mick and AC made great music. It's just AC uses a guitar to much and gargos and shin hisako theme are kind of flat and doesn't really get risky or take you through a journey like the others. The only reason it may seem that AC music is more in origin is cause they documented the creation of every theme they did.

15jewjew I wouldn't say that, when and ac had brought an Chinese vocalist and and based her theme off of chinese lullaby/folk music and delve into her character for her theme, it expressed her personality. Same with arbiter, ac didn't have no ref sheet for arbiters language cause there is none, so they had to play as close to the game and the character as possible all whilst keeping the mix of ki and halos music just right. With mike there could have been improvements like with sabrewulfs theme, In my opinion it should have played off more with his original theme, its fantastic. Not to say ac doesn't need to improve as well, but they make sure to stick with the character and story more so than mike, mike seems to focus on the music itself although your right about tj and somewhat spinal but for others like sadiras can fit just about half of the cast and arias doesn't fit here as much. With rash the music wasn't all so fantastic but it played most from his game and his character himself noisy,convoluted and retro. Like with hisakos theme it was amazing but for a Japanese ghost girl horror trope it fits ki perfectly but hisako not 100% the creepy aspect of it does, but compared to shin hisako here music takes from her story, the theme gives off an honorable last samurai showdown vibe which if you know the story of her sword, its her fathers and hisakos father went of to fight a battle while hisako along with many other had to defend themselves, that aside when she's shin hisako its more to she's picking up her fathers mantle or atleasy may be forced to for as we don't know everything about the sword but the sword itself changed her in more than one way which is why shin hisakos theme fits so well because it isn't just for her but also for her father/the sword. The music focuses more on its eastern instruments and less on the metal compared to og hisakos theme, and when she's released I'm sure there is more of the theme we haven't seen. Then there's tusks theme which is just perfect imo.

My 2 cents about this song: The way the original is as it is because Hisako was a rage-fill, malicious spirit. Shin Hisako transcended from all of that and became a noble kami, a type of god I believe, and thus deserve a more triumphed type of song. If you STILL have a problem with everything about Shin Hisako than I don't know what to say, just play the original one, both her and the song is still around, stop complaining.

As a character and as a concept i prefer the og Hisako, however Shin Hisako seems to be a natural progression to her character and i have no complaints about that. For the tracks? Well, both of them kick ass, the og theme will always be my favorite but Shin Hisako's theme is freakin amazing, especially if you consider the development of her story and all the lore behind it

Except the original doesn't even sound close to what the Japanese would produce - it's more like a typical Americanization of what we Westerners THINK Japan is supposed to be (even funnier is that an Aussie made this - and their kind don't deal with Japan much at all). This actually sounds closer to what a Japanese composer might do, simply because of the taiko drums. Mick used generic metal drums, which shows he had no real creativity on that part (then again, I'd argue that Atlus and Cell are just as guilty of that sin in some regards).

Non-Important Person and i think that's what is so interesting about how people perceive this one Vs the Original, as well as the likely design choice between their music When we first saw Hisako we saw a "Ghost Monster Girl". Sure, we saw the japanese influence on her design, but she was primarily perceived as a Ghost Monster Girl what with her undead animations. This Shin hisako in turn is clearly a Samurai and, even though she still moves like OG Hisako and has a few ghost moves, the intent was to present her more like a samurai. Because let's be honest, if Shin Hisako was not Undead but instead a cursed Dark samurai, this would fit her nonetheless because that's the intent. One fits a Ghost Monster girl, the other fits a Dark Samurai.

Because apparently it adds a sense of aggressive adultness to it that tells kiddies to "GTFO", in a sense (it's why manchildren and chauvinist metalheads LOVE the fuck out of GG's OST whilst bashing BB's, and hail GG as the god of all FGs that ever existed and ever will exist). Random Metal Track #1000? Hardly. The OG was creepy and befitting of a Ghost Monster Girl. This one is more "Pumped" and befitting of a Samurai/Japanese warrior. If you were to put this on a japanese stage, people would be able to imagine characters like Akuma or Heihachi no problem. Where as the OG screams "Ghost character", which is more of the theme Hisako had... she's japanese with a Naginata, yes... but she is primarily an undeath warrior, not just simply "Japanese Warrior #1000"

Overall it's pretty good. best part was from 2:52 to 3:07. I wish the whole theme were more like that. But the danger theme is so good to my ears. AP and CD did a good job, but Gargos' is still their best.

It's weird that the other new characters are all distinct people but this is a variant on the previous Hisako. Maybe they should instead have had her sacrifice herself to bring her father back to the world after centuries, and this character could have been him, as that might better explain how Shin and Hisako could both exist at the same time.

Not gonna lie, I prefer the OG theme to this. Which actually surprises me, considering Klayton is actually one of my fav all time artists. But the only reason I prefer Hisako's theme is because it sounds more metal. One thing I will say about this though, is that it fits Shin Hisako very well and is an amazing theme. I love the fact that you can hear and feel bits of the OG theme, despite this being something very different. Klay n Atlas did an excellent job.

My favorite parr is literally the break down at 2:13 all the way to 2:53. the rest is ok and is nice with actual fighting going on but maybe a less appealing listening to it raw. I like this theme overall but I don't love it. I feel like there was a challenge to mix a more traditional asian style of music with KI influence that didn't pan over well. You can kinda hear the confuse of giving the traditional an up beat action theme but at the same time giving it a ghostly feel. In fact that's my major gripe is the ghostly part. I think had they stuck with a more heavy dark action traditional theme instead of a ghostly one it would sound better. However the ghostliness is part of her character. so idk. I'm conflicted.

His is okay, but I felt that the techno kinda hurt the song a bit. Like, they couldn't have taken the Spinal approach with him? One thing I've noticed is that Atlas & Cell seem to feel some kind of need to use some kind of synth in their work - they cannot be satisfied with a piece unless there's a synth in it (at least, that's the vibe I get with them). It makes them kinda come off like a pair of Michael Bays of music, their inability to purely be acoustic is what harms them in the longer run. You'll notice that plenty of composers can work with purely realistic instruments (even if they need to be creative to make it unique). Examples within KI are, notably, Spinal's kangling (boneflute) and bone-clanging percussion. Mira's theme could've been good, but it had to include the wub-wub in there - even if miniscule, it hurt the piece a tad too much IMO (again, for the "Michael Bay-esque" reasons I stated earlier). Same with Eyedol - had they switched the synth for orchestra (maybe cello or double bass), and the percussion for timpani and cymbals (whilst lightly tapping them to give a very mid-eastern vibe), the track would've improved immensely and they might've actually stood a chance in comparisons to Mick (because let's face it - S2 was where he started showing weakness; ARIA's theme is, by far, probably the worst track on the OST for that season IMO).

Ashram Astarcia​ I think the dubstep in Mira's theme adds needed aggression. The melody is great, but if you take the dubstep out, you need some intense guitar rifts or something to get you going. To get you into the fight. Sabrewulf's theme doesn't really have that. The music almost fades into the background.

Yeah, I didn't like how mellow Saberwulf was - his theme was S1's weakest track, despite people worshipping his theme as the cornerstone of why Mick was so "unique" back in S2 (and prior to the switch to Atlas/Cell). That being said however... you TRULY think that the song wouldn't work without dubstep/metal riffage?

Daniel Wieland It's more memorable. I can't even remember how OG Hisako sounds like. Every part of this theme in my opinion is better expect for the idle I'll give the original that one. Over all better presentation and sounds more Asian style then the original.
