In my opinion Na wang shik character should be potrayed as complicated person too but it feels flat to me. His acting is overshadowed by shin sung rok excellent acting. I think initially na wang shik is the main male lead. He and sunny are the protagonists after all. But as the story goes, shin sung rok really delivers his character so well, his character has more impact compare to na wang shik (even sunny as well).

greysbee ive watch it again...this kdrama is over but it really blown me away...my point of view of the story is that the emperor is not a psycho because a psychotic person dont feel any love, no mercy and has no compassion...he loves oh sunny very much...how many times he let her feel how much he love her but always thrown back at him...the emperor saves the lives of oh sunny and cwb many times it only shows he is merciful and has compassion...looking back at his childhood it really contributes how he was shaped as he grow up..its a painful upbringing...what he needs is a complete debriefing and complete dettachanment from his past...if only oh sunny would have then find out the ROOT CAUSE why her husband is behaving badly she would have help him and guide him ...if she would have known the painful truth of how he was treated badly while growing up....the emperor needs a lot of loving and understanding...but no one was there to help him...he was all alone fighting his own battle vith himself while the people around him planning to down him...he was surrounded by people who he thought love him but just use him...he gave his trust to these people but just use him to benefit them...his mother and his mistress pushes him to do bad things...give him advises that really messed up his life...its so heartbreaking watching him messing up his life...yes he has a brother but theres no brotherly love between them...the brother just keep quiet about how their parents abused his older brother...yoon never told oh sunny about this...it would have help..just imagine a scene where young lee hyuk were being hit by his father with a belt and told him not to make a sound or hear him cry...what a sad life...the emperor live a bitter and lonely life.

Do you know why many people (including me) ship the empress with the emperor? It's because their chemistry is amazing! way better than when the empress with chun woobin. I know the emperor is evil, abusive, possesive and psychopath but since Shin Sung Rok excellently potray the weak, vulnerable and loving side of the emperor, I can't help but to feel pity for him and kinda wish him for a happy ending.

I desperately want to hate the Emperor but I think the actor played a large role in me loving the portrayal of Lee Hyuk. Shin Sung-rok is an amazing actor and I cannot agree that he's got great chemistry with Jang Nara, despite playing such huge opposition against each other. Regardless, because of Hyuk's mentality and unstable status, I don't mind if Sunny ends up with no one. However, the ending that I would mind is if the Emperor just dies. I don't think it's something that he deserves. Even if there's no reconciliation, I don't think death should be the solution for what he's committed.

I just love how complex of a character the Emperor is like out of all the characters his is the most interesting one. To be honest I wish there is a happy ending for the emperor, despite all the evil stuffs he did. He was actually a scarred person, craving for love and affection. Since young, he was not taught about love, kindness or even compassion. All his parents ever did was to compare him with his brother, and what he did was never enough for his parents to be satisfied or be proud of. Jealously and hatred grew. And I guess that's something that shapes him as he grows older, there no one like sunny who guides Ari to be a better person. No one was there for the emperor when he did all the bad things, instead the dowager empress and the secretary was actually the mastermind pushing him towards evilness, as there was no one telling him that what he did was actually wrong. When sunny appeared, he starts to realize how special she is, he slowly become a better person. But Sunny, his wife and Na Wang Shik, a brother whom he trust. Little did he know was that both of them actually hates him and was making use of him. That is why he felt betrayed and hurt. Hence, I hope there is a chance for the emperor to have a normal and simple life with someone he loves.

Specially since Lee Hyuk was once like Ari. You'd think that if Oh Sunny could understand Ari, then she should also understand and pity Lee Hyuk. But then again, he did try to have her killed, and he did cheat on her. I think that part of what Sunny is doing is for revenge for cheating on her, and using her as an alibi. Her breaking point with Hyuk was when she asked if ever his feelings for her were true in the past.

Shin Sung-rok is great at playing villains, he has the perfect face for them and he does them so well. A very talented actor. Playing a “baddie” from the beginning, it was good to see him slowly change and become a better man who realised he DID love Sunny and wanted to protect her and keep her safe. Of course it wouldn’t be a story if he didn’t die, because Sunny had to be the LAST Empress and for that to happen, the Royal line had to end. I enjoyed the series. I don’t know who was worse - the Emperor’s mother or the Emperor’s mistress!

I watched the show because of jang nara and choi jin hyuk after a sad second lead syndrome in Fated to Love You. Suprisingly, shin sung rok stole the show! Given the complexity of his character and his heavy role in the story, i was kinda sad when people say he was the second lead. First leads doesnt have to be the protagonists all the time. They can also be protagonists-antagonists. For me, he is equally opposite choi jin hyuk and jang nara as one of the leads.

(SPOILER)--------- I was wondering where chun woo bin/na Wang shik was during the meeting when empress Eun/Michelle was appointing the legal proxy for princess Ari. I guess by that time of the shooting, it was already concluded that his parts for filming were finished. Sadly we won’t get to see a happy ending with na Wang shik and the empress cause he can’t film the rest of the episodes due to prior schedule arrangements his company already made which was to go to Taiwan for a fan meet ☹️. Based off of that, I’m assuming they will just end up killing his character with no appearance obviously since he can’t film any shootings. That or undergo surgery (since he does have a bullet dodged in his head) and he’ll only be mentioned (name wise) in the continuing plot. Either way, I’m kind of troubled and starting to feel bad for the emperor for awhile now as he only wishes to have someone who loves him for him to stay by his side as he was always treated coldly as a child, the love he never got from his mother and father as well as being used as a puppet only caused him pain to rebel and become inhumane. But deep down, I don’t think he’s really bad. In this particular episode, although he was severely harsh with her, he had to be. He’d rather have sunny hate him than love him and that is his own means of protecting her. He knows how angry Sunny gets and therefore doesn’t want to get her even more involved so he tells her not to do anything cause he knows she will do something rash given how angry she gets. He just doesn’t want her to end up like the previous empress and be harmed by the empress dowager. He’s putting aside showing vulnerability and his emotions toward her cause in his mind that’s the only way she won’t get involved in getting harmed. How I wish he could end up with Oh Sunny!!!!!
