Shin Ultraman Original Series Comparison

I was surprised how much the Shin Ultraman movie pulls from the original series. Not just the kaiju but major plot points. Forgive me if this is horribly researched. I put this together in just a few hours after watching the movie in a theater.

Nice to meet you. I am Japanese. I am impressed that you compare everything with the original. But your fight with the original Zetton is a bit different from Shin Ultraman. It used to be on VHS, but they also made a story about Ultraman defeating Zetton. You can compare it with that one as well.😊 Sorry if it's strange because I'm using translation

Actually very well put together dude. And kudos for actually using HQ clips from the original shows! One little thing I’d like to add, though, is that there is a sense of Ultraseven thrown in here and there as well; Ultraman assuming Shinji’s identity instead of merging himself with him is just like how Dan Moroboshi assumed the identity of the mountain climber at the start of Ultraseven. Plus the entire dynamic between Shinji and Asami is very Dan-Anne-like; there’s a shot when Asami rescued Shinji before the fight with Fake Ultraman that’s a direct homage to the finale of Ultraseven when Dan revealed himself to Anne.

Well, in the film, it's still referred to, and functions, as "merging". It's just that there isn't much of Kaminaga's personality that's *overtly* present.

Actually, there's a Zetton-seijin (Alien Zetton) and Zetton the super weapon..you got it confused because..they named the super weapon after their own race.

Whats also cool is that all the music used in the original was used for the film. That's a really cool thing for them to do.

Ultraman can be seen in his crooked look in the beginning later evolve to the red look, this is a reference to the old damaged suit used earlier in the series dubbed type A, and the final form is based on his most iconic look later down the line, type C

quick note, his lack of color timer famously comes from his original concept art as the color timer was only added so that little kids would understand when he had to leave, but they replaced this with ultraman gradually turning green the weaker he got, a reference to ultraman tiga’s color changing.

What I'm happy is that they included 3 of the best episodes from the series. Zarab, Mefilas and Zoffy. I did not expect Zoffy to be a temporary antagonist. From what I heard, before the final episode aired, there were rumors among the fans that the episode was leaked and that Zoffy was the final enemy for the series. But obviously, that turned out to be just a rumor.

The movie intended to follow the original plan in Ultraman 1966 -designs was non color timer and it change colors of its body like green or paling color but it was too difficult in that time(1966) -Zarab is intentionally half invisible but also too impossible for suits back in the 60s -1966 Mefilas can actually overpowered ultraman thats why shin mefilas is strong and almost defeat shin Ultraman in the beam struggles -Originally Zoffy supposed to be the name of the summoner for zetton and zetton supposedly brutally kill ultraman but too violent

The lack of the kyojin giant shouting is one of the biggest flaws and letdown in Shinji Ultra. Truly a bad influence from those acursed Americans. Such a dishonor to the spirit of Tokusatsu in general. Makes one fear that one sad day they might actually remove the sound of space battles or worse: Remove the soundtrack too. Scary. Shame on you producers. As if removing the shouting of enchants & fight moves in live action anime and game adaptations wasnt damaging enough.
