Yes, this time I go outside of my comfort zone and I show you the Salsa on1 footwork.
Was it hard for me? No, it wasn't.
So I don't know why I was so sceptical about doing it before. I start a new segment with 3 salsa on1 shines.
You can call it the LA style, I might call it On1 style. Useful? Very much if you ever go to Tropical Gem, Fernando Sosa or Super Mario class. It's worth knowing, plus you will have more social salsa dances if you are more versatile.
First, it's just the basic steps like the Basic, Right and left turns, some Susy q and front double cross.
Hope you will like it and remember: if you are an on2 dancer - it's good to try something new and be ready for the challenge. If you are a salsero dancing on1: well this is going to be easy for you but make sure to try my on2, mambo New York style, shines also.

FYI: Despite all the major NY on2 congress touring teachers/performers that are shown on youTube, Salsa on 1 is still very predominant here in the U.S. I dance both on1 & on2 and I do admire you getting out of your comfort zone and doing on1 Footwork. Maybe in the future, when you are as acclimate it to on1 as you are to on2, you can do a video to explain why some patterns/footwork; pop more on1 vs on2 and vice versa. How does the song that is playing influence that? Hopefully that will bring value to dancers to learn on1 & on2.

Cool topic, I must consider doing that. There is so much to it, more than people think. Also, in only on2 style, there are so many different ways of dancing just the basic step (power on2, contratiempo, clave, classic ET style). Important: it's so many flavours in salsa, it's good to taste every one of them and keep looking for the best one :)

Very good video. One question: for most of the basic steps the lady essentially mirrors the man’s step, i.e., when man starts his left leg, the lady starts her right leg. However, there are a few things the lady no longer mirrors the man but does exactly the same thing as the man, e.g., right spot turn, or left turn. How about front double cross? Should the lady start with left leg double cross to duplicate the man or should she mirrors the man by starting with right leg double cross?

Honestly, your question is a bit to intricate to answer it just like that here. I think my idea and goal as a teacher is to make you a versatile dancer able to dance in whatever direction you like with whatever leg you like to whatever count or beat you like... Is that making any sense? 🙂 So, don't think about the differences. I personally learnt the most from a women learning the MOVEMENT and applying it on my steps. Think movement and steps will come much easier. Man, I need coffee. Lol Happy New Year!
