My son died on March 10 2018. He left us messages all week. My daughter woke up the last time we heard from him with this song stuck in her head. She said I have heard the song I know its a song but not what its about or who sings it. All she knew was tell my mother tell my father I did the best I can. I put those words into google lyrics. And I found Shinedown. He said he was halfway there, he said this is my voice but only for today. He said this was his chance for a second chance. I have been listening to it over and over and over. I just wanted you to know my son sent me his last message using your song and it was beautiful thank you

I lost my Mother to cancer when I was 3. She was 22. At the age of 6, I began racing with little to no funds, to direct my focus onto something positive. I have raced to raise 30k for childhood cancer fighters and their families. I pray frequently. This year I was accepted into NASCAR school. I’ve made the associated press and global news, finished 3rd in points for Chevrolet, and continue with 5 career poles, 5 wins and 10 top 10’s. Goodbye is hard. But sometimes goodbye is a second chance. Sunsets are always followed by the sunrise. I miss my Mom Samantha and continue to honor her everyday. I love you, Shinedown. You’re an inspiration.

This was why I joined the Army. I was 20 with nothing good going on and my parents treating me like I was acting, like a kid. I said fuck this, quit my job at Burger King, and went to a recruiter's office. The next month I went to Basic. That was in 1997 and today I try to make my kids make their own decisions as much as I can while keeping them safe. They have to make decisions in real life when they grow up and it won't always be easy to do. I want to make them as independent as possible so that when they say goodbye, they will have the best shot at finding themselves out there and come home knowing who THEY are and what THEY want in life. That is not a decision parents can make for their kids. They must make it.
@PhunkyMunky109 жыл бұрын
OnlineNamesAreStrange They're still trying to do their best for you. Sure, I'd like my kids to be doctors or some such thing, but will they become that? I honestly don't know. My dad wanted me to be an engineer. Math is my worst issue as far as that goes, and there was never any way I'd ever be an engineer. My dad and I fought over that for years until he gave up on it. It didn't make matters any better as he tried shoving "You will become a Sate engineer" down my throat. I want my kids to do well. Any parent who loves their kids wants this. But I want them to love what they do as well, and that requires them to find their own way.
@PhunkyMunky109 жыл бұрын
I mean that regardless of how you FEEL about it, they love you and want you to succeed at something. Well meaning. I've nothing to say about their methods of telling you this. That's between you and them. And maybe they do need to back off. Who am I to say?
@PhunkyMunky109 жыл бұрын
Oh, I'm not some great dad. I'm just a guy trying to do the best he can. It's not easy LOL. Believe me. Kids are difficult. They ask for something, you get it for them, then it's not good enough. They want something else. Then you're the worst man on earth when you say that little word no kids likes... "No". My daughter just turned twelve and has SO much attitude toward everyone. I understand it's hormones. I remember my sister going through the same thing, it was a nightmare back then as much as it is now LOL. Boy I can't WAIT until she's sixteen LMAO. I don't know what I'm going to do when I tell her "No you can't stay out all night" and she takes her keys and says "Fuck you dad" and goes anyway. I'll probably do what I always do, sound like that dad from the "Croods", yelling a bunch of nonsense and not even having the ability to complete an actual word LOL. "Noyoucannotgoout!!!" LOL Nobody's perfect. I don't know your parents. Maybe they are shitty? I honestly don't know, but a lot of good can come out of giving them a break.
@PhunkyMunky109 жыл бұрын
I'll say this, too. One of these days you will likely be a parent as well. And you will understand much of what it is you're hating at the moment. And... You'll have your own viewpoint on it still. Some you will still find to be BS, but you'll have a new respect for your parents. My daughter blows up every time I turn the radio on to listen to music I like, in my own truck. I get the "Oh gawd, I can't believe you're listening to this loser noise, dad". I have to laugh because you know what? I did that exact same thing to my parents LOL. "I'm gonna puke if you don't turn that garbage off mom". Hell, I did a whole lot worse to my parents than my own kids do to my wife and I. I consider myself lucky LOL. I was terrible to my parents, but I only see that now. Back when I was a kid I only saw that I wanted to do what I wanted and my parents stood in the way of that. I didn't know that the words "No" and "You're grounded" had literally kept me out of jail, or killing myself doing something stupid. I guess there is no point to my saying more as it's looking like a lecture or something else equally lame. I'm only speaking from my perspective. I don't consider it the right perspective or the wrong one. It's just mine. Take it as you will.
@PhunkyMunky109 жыл бұрын
Well, I wish you good luck in your endeavors. Like I said, it's just from my perspective, and it's neither wrong or right. It's just mine. My family's culture is vastly different than my neighbor even. No two alike.

Lyrics: My eyes are open wide And by the way, I made it through the day I watched the world outside By the way, I'm leaving out today I just saw Halley's comet She waved Said, "Why you always running in place?" Even the man in the moon disappeared Somewhere in the stratosphere [Chorus] Tell my mother, Tell my father I've done the best I can To make them realize This is my life I hope they understand I'm not angry, I'm just saying... Sometimes goodbye is a second chance Please don't cry one tear for me I'm not afraid Of what I have to say This is my one and only voice So listen close, It's only for today I just saw Halley's comet She waved Said, "Why you always running in place?" I fist heard this song when I most felt alone and lost. And damn, I really needed to hear these words. I needed to be reminded how much i'm worth on my own. Second Chance made me gather immense courage to stand in front of my parents and say: "No! I don't! want to do this anymore! I want to be an animator! what's wrong with that?" and it came to them as a shock, bc they thought they knew me better than I know myself. I've been learning to be more emotionally open ever since.

My family has no control over my world, my life. I am in control. So thank you. Thank you for teaching me, showing me. That I. Have a choice. I have a reason. I am important. I am who I am. And nothing will ever change that. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this song. You allowed me to break away from a broken home and find a home where I belong. Where is have a place. This song has allowed me to see who I am. Who I will be. NY greatest wish us seeing you in person. To thank you for all you have done for me. This song kept me alive. So thank you. Really. Thank you.

My dad and I had alot of problems growing up. He was very controlling and abusive emotionally and verbally. I just wanted him to let me be me and love me for being me. I had a huge passion for art and writing, but i was constantly put down for it even though I wrote for a local paper and I won many art competitions, even against college grad students. I use to listen to this song every day to help with my depression as a high school senior, and it was what finally gave me the courage to stand up to my dad and choose my self-worth over his twisted sense of parental love. It took me telling him I was moving out to start finding myself and then him abruptly disowning me and kicking me out in the middle of the night for me to finally be my own person. The road was long and hard and at least now I can say, I am me without holding back anymore. And while we didn't like how things started out, he has told me that he respects me for standing up for my convictions and making my own way. It took us 26 years and the loss of my step mom to cancer to get a good relationship. I wish it could've been sooner but there was a time I never believed it would even happen. Still, I wouldn't trade the last nearly 4 years for anything in the world. P.s. Shinedown was also my first concert I ever went to. It was awesome.

This song does something to me that is not easy to describe. The problem with most songs is regardless of how good or bad it is the feeling you get from it is fleeting. That isn't the case with this one. I first heard this song when I was 10 years old (8 years ago) and every time I listen to it I feel the same thing I felt those years ago. Pure, undeniable passion that can't be replicated by anything else.

If this video doesn't make you feel something, then you have no soul. It's so real, I mean everybody has to make that decision at some point in their life, do they spread their wings or chicken out? Whatever you decide, there are consequences and people you leave behind, but it's necessary and you need to grow. I felt kind of the same way when I graduated from college and moved 600 miles away from my small college town to Atlanta, GA. It was a huge cultural change, but I survived and eventually thrived. Now I'm married and facing the same thing with my own high school senior who trying to decide what she wants to do with her life. It's scary, but it's all part of the process, and I just want her to know that no matter what happens, we'll be here for her.

I don't know how many times I listened to this.... I plan to leave home in less then a year. I am scared shitless. I am going to start my own life. Not some life predetermined by my family's religious beliefs.

Joey Ber I love being a christian but my family and church judge me because I'm emo. being religious dose not mean you have to go to church all the time. I'm closer to God and doing better in life than ever now and I'm not even that close to family or my church.

One of the top reasons for depression in people is parents instilling their values on their kids. They mean well but the fallout is bad. If you can break this then you will be much happier.
@michellewhittaker34487 жыл бұрын
im a Christian and that should not be a factor for judgement, ever. your actions are what define you as a Christian, one of my fav verses is John 13:34 because it reminds me that God loves us all regardless of our backgrounds, what are interested in or we look like so we should do the same. If someone needs change to be a better person and that includes a second chance at life than I say go for it and i'll support you the whole way.

This song means so much to me. My husband lost his brother in a tragic car accident. My husband always had a hard relationship with his mother especially after his brother died. He plays this song over and over again. And what's crazy is he is now an amazing stepdad to an amazing gal named Hailey (my daughter, his Hailey's comet).

This is my 15 year old son's favorite band. I took him to see them 2 years ago. I would like to see them make more music and do more tours. I am a diehard Queen fan. But, I think these guys are really good. He does his parkour training to their music.

This song help me a lot, my friend she always comes to me crying saying I have a horrible life when mine is worse then hers I never bother her with mine like how she bothers me with hers... I am always criticized! I try so hard to stop it, but I can't and I just get so MAD!!! People always think just cuz I'm small I can't play a game, talk with them, play with them, I am short people think I'm a little bean! But I'm not no one care if I try going to my friend saying what happen she will say " your life is perfect" AND IT'S NOT PERFECT NO LIFE IS STINKEN PERFECT! I HAVE ANOTHER FRIEND WHO ALWAYS TRY'S TO CHANGE ME AND IT WILL NOT WORK!!!!!! There's a lot more then you think going on behind a smile

Really? Pouring out your heart (allegedly) on YT makes you feel better? Just how much anonymous validation do you need in order to feel better? Apparently, you are even drunker than I am. All caps and no punctuation helps? You should make a friend somewhere, somehow.

Mark Acker Just so you know, other people have different ways of dealing with their problems. Whether it be talking to some in real life, or people online. You shouldnt put someone down because they comment something on a video, if you dont like it then close your goddamn web browser and go somewhere else. Its not your life its hers, she can do what she wants.
