What I got is people or so much into themselves and technologies that they missed the whole play and when they finally got off their phones, they missed the whole show.

I got a very similar impression. It carried through in many of the tracks on the album Attention Attention; Human Radio seemed to continue with that theme.

The album Attention Attention is a concept album. It tells of a person overcoming & evolving. "Get Up" was written about a band member fight with depression. It's an excellent album. Loved your reaction!
