You'll never go wrong with SHINee World V Ring Ding Dong + Lucifer 👍 No autotune and just powerful vocals. 🙂😄

They don't need autotune but it was absolutely a trend. They have several songs that use autotune for stylistic choices. Lucifer album (2010) is known for having songs with various amounts of autotune.

Try the live/concert versions if you want to watch/hear without autotune. You should be able to do reactions for most of them if you want.

Juliette is a remake of Jay Sean & Corbin Bleu's "Deal with It" that was redone for SHINee and given new lyrics. Jonghyun wrote the new singing lyrics and Minho wrote the rap.

"Juliette" is one of the dozens of songs that was wrote by Jonghyun, and it was one of SHINee's first songs to win the top spot on music shows. You might recognize the melody of the song because it was originally a song by the American singer/actor Corbin Bleu called "Deal with It," which was wrote by British singer Jay Sean. When SM bought the rights to the song they kept the melody, but Jonghyun rewrote the lyrics. :D As you can see, Jonghyun was writing songs and making his mark almost from the beginning. And Minho also wrote his rap section in the song. Minho has credits on almost all of SHINee's songs because he writes all his rap parts. This was also part of the era where SHINee started the trend of the colored skinny jeans. SHINee are known for their "school boy fashion/student look" and everyone started wearing colored skinny jeans at this time because of SHINee. They are even trendsetters when it comes to fashion. Never following trends, but always creating them in everything they do. :D It is safe to say that the original trend of colored skinny jeans in the west was probably a transplant from the trend that SHINee started. A lot of foreign idols over the years have told SHINee that the fashion trends they started in Korea were adopted by them in the U.S., Canada, China, Thailand, etc. That's how influential SHINee are. The glasses and masks they are wearing in this MV are crazy because they are supposed to be attending a sort of trendy version of a masquerade event like when Romeo and Juliet secretly meet each other at Juliet's family's costume masquerade ball. The SHINee boys are all supposed to be Romeo and they are searching for their Juliette -- who is played by Krystal from F(X), SHINee's sister group. As you discovered, Jonghyun is known for his Michael Jackson-like vocals. That's just Jonghyun's classic style. That Michael-like cry is pure Jonghyun and what you heard is their signature R&B sound. Taemin is the one that dances like MJ, but it's Jonghyun that is the one that sounds like him. When "Juliette" was first released Taemin was still growing into his voice, so he didn't really have a whole lot of lines in the song. His parts were originally designed to highlighted more of his dance skills. "Juliette" came out in 2009, so Taemin was a year older than in "Replay" -- he was almost 16 years old here. Minho and Key are 17, Onew was 19 and Jonghyun had just turned 19. If you like this song, what you need to see is a live performance. There is nothing better than SHINee live. Check out their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) performance of "Juliette" (and "Amigo") from 2016, kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmLUpaqrjM-Mpck. Fun fact: In 2011, as part of their Japanese debut, they also came out with a Japanese version of "Juliette" with its own MV.

"Juliette" (2009) was a Corbin Bleu sample ("Deal With It"), but Jonghyun rewrote the lyrics. It was the very first songwriting by Jonghyun for SHINee. It became an instant hit. Everything is always better live with SHINee! "Ring, Ding, Dong" (2009) was in the overused auto-tune era. One things these guys never need is auto-tune! It's really amazing live without the auto-tune. "RDD" was actually banned in schools during college entrance exams because it was so addictive they called it an "ear worm". Now, the guys have a love/hate relationship with this song. It was a huge hit in the day, but Key has said the lyrics are totally meaningless and he still doesn't know what it's about...lol. "Lucifer" (2010) As they continually did, SHINee created a turning point for Kpop with "Lucifer" because it's iconic dance practice video (with Taemin's psychedelic zebra shirt) ushered in the trend of Kpop groups regularly posting DP videos to the point where it is almost a requirement now. There is a popular live performance of both "RDD" + "Lucifer" together: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6WpfGp8rbCXgtU It was not the intro to the concert, and Taemin was changing from his solo performance of "Goodbye" just before this set, so he sang his opening line from his dressing room while changing, but it's a powerful performance. Once Taemin appears during "RDD", he has to get his headset adjusted and so the dancing is not as energetic while Taemin cools down from his solo performance. However, once Taemin says, "Let's go", indicating his energy has returned, they really pop off for "Lucifer". Another milestone for Kpop which helped to advance dance practices was SHINee's display of this more complex and extremely synchronized choreo. Prior to this, choreos weren't as complex or so structured. However, this choreo, the most difficult in that era, included tutting and several other genres all mixed into a seamless choreo that was something new. I like to think this was influenced by Taemin being a self-taught dancer who was already more advanced in such things as tutting, popping/locking and isolations when he entered SM at just 12. The other brothers have said that it was Taemin who was always pushing for more rigorous and difficult choreos -- to their chagrin. Here is the dance practice (it's not the polished type you see today...lol: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pafdpZmmjLWia68 "Lucifer" was also the background music for the 13th episode of the TV show, "Lucifer" in Season 3. Since you said it would be cool if SHINee was launched from beneath the stage to perform, here is a live of the first song of their first concert where that actually happened. Of course Taemin and Minho were the more adventurous of the group and really launched themselves. Key is afraid of heights, so he took the more sedate approach. The song is "Doo Bop": kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKHEqGeIl5V3gpI This was an intro song that not only introduced them but also the songs for the concert. However, the most iconic opening set was from their SWC IV Tokyo Dome concert with the four, high-octane songs, "Sherlock", "SHINe", "Stranger", and "Picasso", 17 straight minutes of non-stop live singing, dancing and performing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6e7ZqyIqdR0lbc

Taemin was definitely made to smile in those MVs lol he had the maknae image forced on him at the time, one which he hated when he was in his emo teenage years but now would rather die than lose his baby status

In SHINee's "Lucifer" MV the "smoke" or "light trail" you see is supposed to represent the aura of a girl who has devilish powers like Lucifer, who is trying to possess them and take over their lives. As the English lines in the song say, "Loveaholic, robotronic ... her whisper is the Lucifer." (They are using auto tune because they are supposed to be "robotronic"-ly controlled by the girl who is "The Lucifer." So the auto tune is meant to make them sound robotic.) In other words, the woman or girl they are talking about is so desirable that she is like Lucifer and you have to use all your willpower just to resist her wiles. In the MV you see them trying to fight against Lucifer's powers and resist her attempts to try to make them bend to her will, etc. That's why in the choreography you see all the robotic moves because they are showing how "Lucifer" is trying to control them like a robot. For example, they put their wrists together like they are being handcuffed to show how she is trapping them, and they vibrate to show how they are being manipulated by "Lucifer" and they are trying to resist her powers, etc. FYI: That vibration you saw them do is 100% them actually shaking like that, there aren't any camera tricks. If you pay attention when they perform "Lucifer" live, you will see them do that exact same thing. :D When they explain to people how to do that move they say you have to "tense all your muscles and then pretend like you are being startled." Just wait until you see some of Taemin's solo performances and discover how much of an expert he is a popping and ticking. He is considered one of the best poppers in the industry, and he can literally isolate every joint and muscle individually and make any part of his body vibrate at warpspeed. LOL we have no idea why they had to be dancing in front of a sports car, but that was kind of an iconic thing that Kpop companies did back then in a lot of their MVs. The group would dance around a fancy car to show off their coolness and to give the video a more futuristic, expensive looking aesthetic. "Lucifer" was released in 2010, so this was just the look that a lot of MVs had back then, in part because everyone was following SHINee's lead. Just take a look at TVXQ's, Super Junior's, Infinite's or 2PM's MVs, etc. from around that time and you will see a similar look and style. SHINee was setting trends in the industry with 'Lucifer." I'm not sure why people are often so thrown by their hairstyles and outfits in this MV. :D I think they are actually all pretty cool for doing something different that sets them apart from everyone else in the industry. That is what makes SHINee legends and why "Lucifer" is such an iconic song and dance. You're not going to remember a group or a song if they look and sound the same as everyone else, you remember them for standing out and not being afraid to be unique. SHINee are also known for never being afraid to experiment with everything they do, including their style, and as the fashionista and stylist of the group, Key is always looking for ways to be unique, so his head was really shaved on the one side. What you see is his hair was bleached blond on the side and then shaved down to his scalp. He is known for always being unique and wanting to stand out. That's why Key's style is often just straddling the edge of outrageous, but somehow always manages to look cool. Fun fact: I think one reason why Minho's hair is so short at this time is because, as you saw, their previous comeback was with their song "Ring Ding Dong," and all the members had pretty long, shaggy hairstyles. However, as mentioned, Minho has never liked having long hair. So, I think for "Lucifer" Minho decided to rebel and go really short. This was also the era where Taemin had long hair and it made him one of the most popular of the members at the time, especially with their Japanese fans. The Japanese culture really embraces men with long hair and the members said that he was one of the most popular at the time because of his style. Taemin with long hair is so iconic and many in the fandom were really sad when he eventually cut his hair. So, in this MV, Taemin had just turned 17. Onew and Jonghyun are 20 and Key and Minho are 18. If you want to see where SHINee truly shines, if you haven't yet, you have to check out a performance of "Lucifer" Live in concert at their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul from 2014, kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ6Yn2uHZ72CaZY, and/or their "Ring Ding Dong" and "Lucifer" set at their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) in Seoul in 2016, kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6WpfGp8rbCXgtU. This is a perfect example of how you can tell they are singing live and killing it every time. SHINee doesn't need auto tune, and if you hear them perform the song live, they often don't use it. "Lucifer" is actually known as one of the most difficult songs and dances to cover because of its tutting and popping and for the fact that it has a very fast paced beat with dance moves that are very sharp and precise, which are designed to hit every beat of the song. (They actually refer to that tutting formation as a bug or worm. Their arms are supposed to look like the legs of a creature.) And the song itself is very complicated with the songs wide range of notes and flow. Many amateurs have thought "Lucifer" looks like one of SHINee's more simple songs and dances. But the minute they try to sing the song and/or dance the choreography, they soon discover that it is way more complicated than they thought. It only looks and sounds simple, because SHINee makes it look that way. Check out this clip of SHINee teaching a group of actors and comedians "Lucifer" as part of a challenge on the variety show "Invincible Baseball Team," kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4WvdH5tgMd_q9U and kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoeTY5aHrL5_g7M. It's funny because when they came to meet SHINee to start the practice, Jonghyun asked them why they chose this song of all songs, and they said because it looks manly and they thought it was fairly easy to cover. But the first thing Jonghyun said to them, while laughing, was "oh no, actually it's one of our most difficult and it took us extra time to really perfect it." :D You definitely should check out the dance practice. SHINee's "Lucifer" dance practice was the very first dance practice video ever in the Kpop industry, released specifically for fans. SHINee is the group that started the trend and their "Lucifer" dance practice video is why dance practice videos are even a thing today. :D It was the very first dance practice video to go viral. Back then, dance practice videos were filmed for the group and artists to watch to help them remember the moves and to fix mistakes, etc. They weren't intended for a mass audience. But SM realized that fans were starting to try and copy SHINee's choreography, so they decided to film a dance practice and release it to the public. SHINee's dance practice videos became so popular that other companies and groups started to do the same and show off their choreography by releasing dance practices too. But like everything SHINee does, they were the first.

How I interpret the story in SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong" MV is, the song is about a sort of love at first sight and thoughts of that person keep ringing through your head, so much so that you start to become obsessed with them. It's more than just protecting the girl or your love, but it's about wanting to have her all to yourself and not allowing anyone else to come between you, etc. (As the English part of the lyrics says, "Fantastic, elastic ..." because thoughts of that person are constantly bouncing around in your head.) In the MV, if you notice, at one point, you see all the members dressed in white and they are standing in an all white room looking into the mirror. However, the image they see in the mirror is not their reflection, but what seems to be their alter ego or inner self because you see their mirror images with brooding expressions and they have wings. But their wings are not white like an angel who is pure and good, they are grey like angels of darkness. So, maybe this is showing how their thoughts are not a pure and innocent love, but one of passion and possession, etc. You see them in the white room with the white clothes because I see that as showing how they are hiding their true selves -- on the outside people think they look innocent and pure, but once you get to know them they have far less pure intentions. When in their black and red outfits this is more their true selves. The only explanation I can see as to why they are shown lighting the candles without even touching them is a way to make it clear that they are different then what they seem and they may have "magical powers" that can be used to attract the girl and make her theirs, etc. I interpret the butterfly they talk about in the lyrics, and the ones you see them with in the MV, to represent the girl and how she is beautiful, and fragel and flits around in their life attracting them and distracting them, etc and they want to capture her and make her theirs. It is also thought that maybe SM Entertainment is now using the butterfly to connect the storylines between SM's groups. Some theories think that maybe SHINee's black butterfly is connected to the butterfly we see in EXO's debut "Mama" MVs from 2012, which could also be connected to NingNing's butterfly in aespa's storyline from 2020, and the white butterfly could even be connected to the butterfly in NCT-127's "Favorite (Vampire)" MV from 2021, etc. The butterfly is thought to possibly represent the heart of the Tree of Life from EXO's storyline and the white butterfly could be the butterfly that helps aespa navigate through Kwangya in aespa's "ep. 2 'Next Level' -- SM Culture Universe" video, which would help to connect all of SM's groups' storylines together. Although SHINee's storyline my not have originally been designed to connect to anything outside of their group, I think SM has been using things from their older groups' MVs as "happy coincidences" in order to draw everyone into their SM Culture Universe storyline. Beyond that, I don't really have an explanation of anything else that is happening in the "Ring Ding Dong" MV. Most of it I interpret as just part of the aesthetic of what was the new cool think and what they were doing with MVs in 2009. The boys' hair and clothing styles and the aesthetic of the MV was supposed to give them more of a bad boy image, to sort of contrast the fact that when they debuted with "Replay" in 2008 they had a boy next door image and they were given the title as the nation's younger boyfriends -- people had a pure and wholesome image of them -- so they wanted to show that as SM's experimental boy group, people should never expect them to stay the same. SHINee will forever be changing up their image to show many different sides of themselves and all different styles of music and dance. "Ring Ding Dong" was showing a new side of SHINee. This was only SHINee's second comeback after debut, so it established their role as the ever changing and evolving group that was expected to keep setting trends and coming up with new concepts, styles and sounds. Fun Fact: Minho's long hair and Jonghyun's "Lion" hairstyle in "Ring Ding Dong" is such an iconic look. But Minho always hated this hairstyle, LOL. He has never liked having long hair. He begged SM to allow him to cut his hair and it took a few weeks before they would let him do it. They made him wait until they were done promoting for this album because their hairstyles were part of the album's concept. And therefore, Minho has refused to ever grow his hair out again. ;P Also, almost all of SM's boy groups had similar hairstyles during this time period. :D Take a look at Super Junior or TVXQ in 2009. Their hair looked like this too. hehehe. This was just sort of the look for Korean entertainers back in the day. SHINee were setting tends even with their hair. As you discovered, "Ring Ding Dong," is one of SHINee's most popular songs. This song is part of the era when auto tune was brand new and it was the new cool thing that everyone was using in their new songs. SHINee was ahead of their time when this song came out and it blew people away for its sound and style, which many had never heard before. :D This is totally the look and sound that was just becoming the new it thing back in 2009. "Ring Ding Dong" is such an iconic song and it's so catchy that it has been said that in Korea this song is banned from being played anywhere or listened to during college entrance exam time. When it first came out, students complained that the song would get stuck in their heads and they couldn't concentrate on their studies or on the test. :D This is also one of SHINee's iconic choreographies and it is one of the dances that every rookie group in the industry, both boy groups and girl groups, are required to learn and know, and most have covered the song and dance at least once in their career, even still today. If you want to hear the song without the auto tune then you need to hear them perform it live in concert. Try their live MBC music festival performance of "Ring Ding Dong" in 2016, kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZ28pqWlmLGjn5o. SHINee's songs are always way different performed live. You will see how SHINee has grown.

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. 2009's "Juliette" was the very first song written by Jonghyun (JH) . It was an instant hit. From then on SHINee was given more creative license than was normal at that time. They cute babies. =0p The fits are so retro though. 0.0 The harmonies are chef's kiss. Jonghyun had the best hairstyle here. =0} What I heard was that Taemin did not do vocal lessons for a long time. He thought he did not need them. He focused on the dance at the beginning. But eventually he was critiqued as being tone deaf and he stopped getting lines in songs. After that he payed attention in vocal lessons. It was really hard for him. He talks about it in a few interviews. He is a perfectionist and he really worked hard. Plus, the other members picked up the tough choreo he had to pick up the vocals. Balance. Now he is such an amazing artist. I think maybe Onew blended with Jonghyun for that part. Their both power houses. So glad u liked this. Oh my gosh yes. A Shinee Dingo Kil**** Voice would be great. (A BTS one too, UwU). MJ's vibes agree. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟 @gladioluspalustris said on 9/17/23 The base for Juliette was originally a song written for Corbin Bleu titled Deal with it. I honestly think it fits Shinee much better and to this day is one of my favorites from them.😊 Good reaction, ty. Ring Ding Dong is not for me. For some reason I got Big Bang vibes even though i have not heard that many songs from them. I liked the water choreo. And i liked some of the fits and makeup. But the chorus is a no from me. Maybe if u take it out it would sound better. Shrugs. New Taemin bias here. My eyes keep going to him. Love his current visuals, voice and dancing. SHINee fun facts : They were the first ones to start doing dance practice videos :) @mllewhimsy1161 said 6/2023 Ring Ding Dong was one of those songs that couldn't be played during the CSAT (college entrance exam) in Korea because of the ear worm it gives you. They have a couple of songs like this. Aileen DeMong said 1/13/22 SHINee was SM's experimental group. When they debuted they didn't even get any promos beforehand like what usually happens with new groups, just a few days before their television debut there was a news story about this new group with the song called Replay from SM and then they had their debut on Inkigayo (very unheard of) a few days later and then they grew from there. They are known as the Idol of Idol's and a lot of groups, even their seniors in the industry, look up to them and love them. And despite them debuting in 2008 they were all 15-18 years old at the time and they often teased other idol groups about that as they were often younger than them but had more seniority in the industry lol. @milindawilson9175 said How I interpret the story in SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong" MV is, the song is about a sort of love at first sight and thoughts of that person keep ringing through your head, so much so that you start to become obsessed with them. I interpret the butterfly they talk about in the lyrics, and the one you see them with in the MV, to represent the girl and how she is beautiful, and fragel and flits around in their life attracting them and distracting them, etc and they want to capture her and make her theirs. It is also thought that maybe SM is now using the butterfly to connect the storylines between SM's groups. Some theories think that maybe SHINee's butterfly is connected to the butterfly we see in EXO's debut "Mama" MVs from 2012, which could also be connected to NingNing's butterfly in AESPA's storyline from 2020, and it could even be connected to the butterfly in NCT-127's "Favorite (Vampire)" MV from 2021, etc. The butterfly is thought to possibly represent the heart of the Tree of Life from EXO's storyline and could be the butterfly that helps aespa navigate through Kwangya in AESPA's recent "ep. The boys' hair and clothing styles and the aesthetic of the MV was supposed to give them more of a bad boy image, to sort of contrast the fact that when they debuted with "Replay" they had a boy next door image and they were given the title as the nation's younger boyfriends -- people had a pure and wholesome image of them -- so they wanted to show that as SM's experimental boy group, people should never expect them to stay the same. As others may have mentioned, "Ring Ding Dong" is such an iconic song and it's so catchy that it has been said that in Korea this song is banned from being played anywhere or listened to during college entrance exam time. When it first came out students complained that the song would get stuck in their heads and they couldn't concentrate on their studies or on the test. :D This is also one of SHINee's iconic choreographies and it is one of the dances that every rookie group in the industry, both boy groups and girl groups, are required to learn and know, and most have covered the song and dance at least once in their career even still today. Good reaction, ty. Lucifer is not bad. My boy Taemin got great moves for the maknae of the group. Yeah the choreo is nice here. Love Taemin's pretty hair. The layered look really suits him. He so pretty. Best smile to me as well. Like his fit. They look like bad boys, lol. Love Replay. It's my fav song by them. SM actually does have a universe. Shinee i hear has a universe and hidden stuff. U can see some of it in Don't Call Me i think. Don't remember the storyline but Bang PD used to work for SM. He took that idea and used it for his agency too. Genius.
