SHINee's known to be kings of live performances, and you can really tell. even their performance-based stages where they're going crazy with difficult dance choreography, they're hitting the notes live as they do. there's no other group doing it like SHINee does, and i can guarantee you they're one of the most unique and the most talented group out there. individually, they stand out as performers and artists as well.

Romeo and Juliette is one of SHINee's older songs, if I'm not mistaken they released this around 2009. Yes there are actually 2 rappers in the group, Key and Minho. But they are also great vocalists. All members have their solo releases as well. Each member has their distinct voices but when they sing together it's just magic. You've also heard Jonghyun before - he was the one with Onew in Please Don't Go (it was performed in this same concert). He is considered as one of the best vocalists ever and also wrote songs for SHINee and other artists like Exo and IU, as well as for himself. The other member Taemin is one of the best dancers ever and a great soloist. He has sveral solo albums and concerts too. SHINee (pronounced as shiny) is known for their live vocals since their debut in 2008. And are trendsetters too in music and fashion. There are a lot of great performances, and some of my recommendations are Excuse Me Miss, Everybody (from Tokyo Dome), RingDingDong plus Lucifer remix (SWC5), and for something ballad- An Encore (SWC4).

SHINee performing live is even better than their studio tracks. They are well known for delivering amazing performances with their live vocals and choreography. I would highly recommend watching their live stages of: Excuse me miss (SHINee world IV), Stranger (SHINee world IV), Sherlock (SHINee world IV), Odd Eye, Colors of the season, Replay (SHINee world IV), Ring ding dong + Lucifer remix (SHINee world V), Orgel and Symptoms. SHINee's performance of "Romeo & Juliette" that you watched is from their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) in Seoul from their world tour in 2016. This was the very last song of the concert and they had been performing, singing and dancing live for more than 3 hours at this point, and yet, see and hear how stable and flawless all their voices still sound. Those vocals are why SHINee are known as one of the best live performances in Kpop. Jonghyun is one of the best vocalist in the industry, and what you just experienced is why SHINee is one of the most well respected groups in all of Kpop. Even as rookies, Jonghyun -- the one in the striped black and white jacket, who is the main vocalist -- and Onew were so well respected for their vocal abilities that they were mentors and vocal coaches for several SM artists, including some of the members of EXO. And although Minho -- gray hair -- is the main rapper and Key -- with the red and white striped pants -- is a sub-rapper. They are both amazing vocalists. (FYI: All Kpop groups have at least one rapper and there is almost always a rap section in all of their songs.) SHINee are known for the fact that there are really no fixed roles in their group because they all can do it all. The main vocalists are pretty good rappers and, as you just heard, the rappers could fill in as a main vocalist at any moment. They are the group that literally everyone in the Kpop industry looks up to because they are so multi-talented. And on top of all that, they are also one of the top groups for their dancing. Taemin -- the one in the black coat standing next to Onew -- is considered one of the two BEST dancers in the entire industry. Fun fact: The order you see the members of SHINee standing in, is the order that they always sit or stand in since debut days. They will always stand with Onew on the left, Taemin next to him, Jonghyun in the middle, Minho next and Key on the right. Even their starting positions in their choreography will often have them standing in this order. You almost never see them in performances like this one, interviews or in press photos, not in that order. If you think this performance was insane, just wait until you see the full concert. They perform like this for 3 hours straight and they never take more than a 5 minute break in between sets to change their clothes and get ready for the next set. They literally go from one song to the next without even skipping a beat. They don't even have a chance to catch their breath, and yet, right after that, when they interact with the audience, they don't even look or sound out of breath. And they do it all while performing extremely intense choreography while singing live the whole time. :D As you are starting to realize, SHINee are amazing live. The ONLY thing SHINee is not good at is lip syncing, so they have specifically trained since their debut, to build stamina and endurance, in order to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight and always sound flawless while performing. SHINee are referred to as CDINee or CD-eaters, because they sound even better live then they do in their studio recordings. It is a running joke between fans and the members that you can tell when SHINee are lip syncing because they are so bad at it, that is why they avoid it at all costs. So when you hear SHINee sing, 95% of the time it will be live. (If you ask any of the members, what is something you are not good at? One of the very first things they will say is, "I am horrible at lip syncing." -- I have heard the members say this multiple times with my own ears.) Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, what you will hear is live vocals. Other Idols and audio sound technicians, etc. who have witnessed SHINee performing live are always blown away, because in the parts of the song where most singers would take a break and rely on the backing track vocals to cover their voices so they can catch their breath and recover, this is where the SHINee members actually ramp it up and become their most powerful. I guarantee, that if you were to listen to them singing a cappella while performing some of their most intense choreographies, they would sound just as flawless. That is why, even as rookies, senior artists would stop what they were doing to watch SHINee's rehearsals on music programs because SHINee's vocal talent is that impressive. When SHINee debuted they were the first group to demonstrate how it was possible to sing live while performing intense choreography and still maintain stable vocals. Before SHINee, the thought within the industry was that it wasn't possible to sing live and also perform high intensity choreography at the same time. At that time, most groups would either sing live and have simple choreography, or they would have crazy cool choreography but lip sync to their recorded vocals. SHINee was the group that changed the industry and proved that if you wanted to compete you needed to up your game. SHINee live is unmatched and it's literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard that all other groups strive to reach and SHINee are the vocalists that all other artists try to emulate. You should watch this whole concert, even if you can't react to the full thing -- watch it on your own sometime. :D You really can't fully grasp just how magnificent of performers SHINee are until you watch a full concert from beginning to end and see what makes a SHINee concert so unique. You have discovered SHINee as ballad singers and heard how amazing their voices are, but I think you will be even more blown away when you see how they can pull off some truly impressive choreography while singing live the whole time and still sound just as flawless as they do in their ballad performances. What you just experienced is exactly what makes SHINee legends. And this is the reason why they are so highly respected, and why almost everyone in the industry who came after them cites them as one of their biggest influences and one of the reasons why they wanted to become a singer and dancer, etc. SHINee where designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. Now that you've had a taste of SHINee all together, let me tell you a little more about them. SHINee debuted as a 2nd. gen. experimental group in 2008. They were supposed to be a hip-hop group, but it became very apparent prior to debut, that this was a VOCAL group. Their ages at debut ranged from 14 (baby Taemin) to 18. As SM Entertainment found out very quickly, there is no genre they can't sing. Each member has a very distinct voice and when blended together, they create the most heavenly harmonies you've ever heard. This is also an all-round group. Each member can sing, dance, rap, are soloists and songwriters. Known as the Princes of Kpop for their stellar live singing and phenomenal stage performances, as well as being true to their experimental bent, SHINee launched many firsts in the Kpop industry. These trends catapulted Kpop advancement into what you see today with 3rd, 4th, and now emerging 5th generations. In short, Kpop wouldn't be what it is today without SHINee. Just a few of these trends are: instituting live singing with more complex, synchronized dancing, starting the dance practice videos, changing up the fashion trends (skinny jeans anyone?), and introducing new genres to Kpop like Deep House and Dubstep, to name just a few. They are the most brotherly loving group out there. In fact, their famous within the industry for their extreme brotherhood. They think of each other as family and attend each other's solo concerts, variety shows, movie debuts, and even escort each other to their military service. They have no problem showing their affect on-stage and off, and they are refreshingly honest when talking about their disagreements in the early years and how they grew to love each other as brothers. When going through the tragedy of losing a member many groups would have disbanded, but SHINee came together to despite malicious rumors and negative news reporting, to hold a concert in memory of their brother, Jonghyun, (2018 "From Now On" Concert) to grieve and also celebrate him with their fans. It was extremely emotional, but also cathartic. Now, let me introduce you to each member, according to the order in which they start singing this beautiful song: Minho (red blazer, silver hair): Debuted at 16; now 30 (intl age). Deep, velvety voice, but can also sing higher as well. He has a slight lisp. Minho writes his own rap segments; songwriter; actor; Two solo songs. Minho is called "Flaming Charisma" because he is EXTREMELY competitive and good in just about all sports: soccer, basketball, baseball, relay racing, high-dive; high-jump, etc. He does not like to lose. Minho is an excellent actor and has been in the most dramas of all of them. This guy is beloved by everyone, especially girls...lol. However, he's also a kid magnet. Kids absolutely ADORE Minho and he is terrific with them. He will be a great dad someday. Minho is also the biggest SHINee fan of all. Attends other SHINee members' solo events. He is Taemin's big brother, very loving and supportive. Would give Taemin the moon if possible. MVs to check out: "Heartbreak", "I'm Home". Taemin (black shirt, black hair): Debuted at 14; now 29 (intl. age). Currently an active soloist, member of SHINee, and member of SuperM - very busy guy -- songwriter, choreographer, actor, co-producer & co-director of his 2020 album. Taemin is the maknae (youngest) of the group and has been raised by SHINee. He's an interesting mix of all of them and has absorbed their collective talents like a sponge! Debuted as the main dancer, totally self-taught and the best dancer (in my opinion) in all Kpop. Couldn't sing at debut due to immature vocal cords, but tutored by both Onew and Jonghyun. With extreme practice (as Taemin is known for) he took off and with his singing and became SM's first-ever soloist from an active boy group in 2014 at just 21 YO. Therefore, he is the most prolific soloist of the group, dropping albums every year up until enlistment last May. Taemin is a chameleon and changes his style, voice, attitude according to which group he's with or acting as a soloist. He is extremely intelligent (as they all are), deep, and thoughtful. Very humble guy who is a self-avowed workaholic, dedicated, and will dance 17-hours straight when necessary until he meets his standard of perfection. Takes no bs and can be quite savage when necessary, but also known as the goofiest and kindest idol, other than Onew. Taemin is, as a close friend described, tofu with a core of iron. He has albums both in Korean and Japanese. MVs to definitely check out: "Advice" (from his 2021 mini-album of the same name) "Criminal" and "IDEA" from his 2020 album; "Want", "Famous", "Move", "Danger" (his 2014 solo debut song), "Ace", "Under My Skin". R&B Lyric Video Offerings: "Strings", "Light", "Nemo" and not R&B, but awesome, "Impressionable", "Heaven", "Identity", "Mystery Lover". Entered the military in May (last one to do so) and will return in November, 2022. We are all devastated but waiting... Onew (pronounced "On-you"; wearing red ball jacket): You already know this guy! Leader and eldest; debuted at 18; now 32 (intl. age). Honey vocals, very rich and warm (one of the best in Kpop). Hits the high notes and has a record in Korea for holding the longest, sustained high note at 40+ seconds. Songwriter; Actor; Soloist. On a whim, he wanted to try Opera and performed "Nessun Dorma" at one of their concerts --- KILLED IT! Has a killer ttakbam and can spin just about anything on a finger. As a leader, Onew is very kind, gentle, & nurturing. While quiet, he can also be quite comedic and goofy at times. He is the glue that holds the group together with his quiet support and encouragement. Indulgent father-figure to baby Taemin. He has an album coming out this year and one that came out in 2018 called "Voice". MVs to check out: "Way" and "Blue", which you may have already reacted to, but I don't know. Jonghyun: (dark, striped jacket; brown hair) Debuted at 18 and forever 27. Very powerful, rich, most versatile voice, slightly nasal. This man was probably the best vocalist Kpop had ever heard, just phenomenal. High notes were no problem for him. He could also rap quite well. Prolific songwriter, composer (wrote many of SHINee's songs, and songs for other artists). Could play several instruments (including being quite talented with the Kazoo); musical genius; Book author. Jonghyun wore his heart on his sleeve and thought very deeply about things. He was most often the one who cried the easiest, especially during moving performances. He also cared deeply about people and social issues. Jonghyun and Taemin knew each other before meeting the other SHINee members, as they were trainees together before being assigned to the group. As such, elder JH took Taemin under his wing and became, as JH put it, "Taemin's 2nd. mother". He was very protective of Taemin. JH also designated himself as Taemin's fan club president, attended Taemin's concerts, even delaying his own concert by 2 days just so he and Onew could attend Taemin's 1st solo concert. He was so proud of Taemin's singing growth and hardwork. Sadly, we lost Jonghyun to his life-long battle with chronic depression in 2017. This was devastating to SHINee, but their extreme brotherly bond helped them to pull it together and continue on to keep Jonghyun's dream of SHINee forever alive. As they say, SHINee will always be 5 = 5HINee. Now, JH is their guardian angel and with them in spirit. You will often still see them leave a space open in their choreo for Jjong (especially in one of their newest MV's, 2021's "Atlantis"). Jjong was the first SM soloist to write his own songs for his albums. MVs to check out: "Crazy", "Y Si Fuera Ella", "She Is", "Lonely", "End of a Day", "Shinin". Key: (Hat, black hair, red/white striped overalls) Debuted at 16; now 30 (intl age). Nasal tones and very versatile. Can really hit those high notes. Has a sing/rap style that flows beautifully. After Taemin, Key is the next-best dancer of the group. Songwriter. Actor; Soloist. He is the SASSIEST of the group. ASOLUTELY no BS with him; tells it like it is and is quite the comedian. He and Minho are total opposites, but love each other even when they bicker endlessly...lol. Key is the fashionista of the group and the actual fashion designer for their stages, as well as an SM Fashion Director, variety show host, chef. Key can also memorize choreos just by watching them once. He is Taemin's surrogate 2nd Mom after Jonghyun's death and tries to keep Taemin under control....alas, Key is even more savage and uncontrollable...lol. When it's just the two of them together = CHAOS ensues. Has a solo career. Two albums. SHINee are always fantastic live. They are superb no matter what they sing but their ballads really show of their vocals and amazing harmonies. I love this song, it's so nostalgic for me, as it's from their 'Romeo' album which came out way back in 2009, and I have many fond memories if listening to it. This was a great reaction! Thank you for reacting to SHINee! This is one of my top SHINee songs and one of the reasons I got into SHINee is exactly the thing that's caught your attention here - they're really unique! Also as others have mentioned, 'Romeo + Juliette' was released pretty early on in their careers. SHINee didn't hold back, even from the beginning! I'd actually highly recommend giving their first album (The SHINee World - The First Album) a listen and checking out the song 'Best Place' if you ever have a chance (and of course, their debut song 'Replay' - which has an MV and live performances! It's considered one of the best/if not the most iconic debut songs in kpop :) ); I think you might really enjoy them. I'd also recommend the EP that 'Romeo + Juliette' was released on - 'ROMEO - The Second Mini Album'. The entire album has such a unique sound and stunning vocals/ad-libs. In my opinion, it feels fresh and unique even over a decade later. For some great live performances - Excuse Me Miss, JOJO, Sherlock (Clue + Note), and Alarm Clock all from SHINee World IV. I'd also recommend their performance of Graze from The 1st concert "SHINee World" in Tokyo. Subscribing and looking forward to your future reactions!
