"Dear Name" is a song that was originally sung by IU, and SHINee are male singers, so obviously they won't be singing in IU's female key. You really should go back and listen to IU's version of the song to understand how SHINee's version is different. IU doesn't sing with them because the point of this segment was for them to sing each others' song. So, IU did a cover of SHINee's "Sherlock" right before SHINee's performance in this same interview. But if you haven't heard SHINee's version of "Sherlock," or you don't remember what SHINee's version sounds like, check out the original version first, so you can understand just how unique and cool IU's remixed version was. Both covers are way different then their original versions. She is known for her amazing vocal range and for her cute bubbly personality. She is also one of Korea's top actresses -- she has even acted in a drama with Minho. She has also done duets with Taemin and Key when they were younger. And she says Onew has one of her favorite male voices in the industry -- during this interview they even talk about how Onew and her need to do a collaboration soon. Fun fact: IU's song "Gloomy Clock" -- one of her older songs -- was wrote by Jonghyun, SHINee's main vocalist and one of the best Idol songwriters in the industry, and he specifically wrote it with her in mind as the singer. SHINee and IU go way back. When you see the full interview, you will see that IU is a Shawol. SHINee are known for their ballads and for their amazing harmonies, that is why they are so highly respected in the industry. Their live vocals are unmatched and everyone in the industry idolizes them for the amount of talent they have. Even as rookies they were highly respected by their seniors and peers for their live vocal abilities and the fact that they sound even better live then they do recorded. (Not bad? You mean amazing!!! SHINee live are on a whole other level. They are some of the best vocalists in the industry, and just think, Minho is the main rapper of the group. How often do you see a rapper that can sing as well as him?) The order you see the members of SHINee sitting in, is the order that they always sit or stand in since debut days. They will always stand with Onew on the left, Taemin next to him, Jonghyun in the middle, Minho next and Key on the right. Even their starting positions in their choreography will often have them standing in this order. You almost never see them in interviews or in press photos, not in that order. This was a performance they did during a talk show interview, so the way they are seated isn't part of the staging. This is how they looked for the whole interview.

SHINee is a vocal powerhouse and their harmonies are known to be heavenly. The guy on the very left, Onew together with Jonghyun are among the best singers in the industry. Onew also has an album consisting of ballads which is incredible. IU is good friends with SHINee since they debuted in the same year with SHINee being seniors by 4-5 months. And she is particularly very close friends with Jonghyun and if you were to watch the whole episode, she was really impressed and amazed with just the fact that they chose to sing this very song not only because of the difficulty but also because she knew what it meant to the four of them. And of course SHINee will always do justice to the songs they cover.

It's awesome to hear versions of songs like this because they are such amazing singers! I was a little surprised by it to be honest because we don't really know that much about them. But this was amazing. And we looked into a little bit of their backstory in the first SHINee video we did, so I can understand why this song means a lot to them. When you lose someone close to you and hope to see them again someday. It was definitely a very powerful performance.

IU too did an incredible job in performing Sherlock - you gotta see both versions cause they're amazing. Despite having a lot of fresh, upbeat, hyped songs, SHINee's ballads are just unmatched, especially when they perform live. Some recommendations for you would be Selene 6.23, An Encore, An Ode to You, Sleepless Night and From Now On.

from left to right... onew, taemin, minho, key. also, during this show iu said that onew has her favorite male vocals and that she would want a voice like his if she were a male vocalist and that she wants to collab with him. i loved this. i made an mp3 for it and have been listening to is a lot. a couple fun facts about onew, he holds the crown for the longest, sustained high note in kpop for "friend"(40 seconds) and can sing opera(learned for shits and giggles).. check out his performance of "nessun dorma" some time.

5:57 they actually raised up the end part by one key for Onew to showcase his vocal power. The original by IU is one key lower than what he did here. they talked about it during a radio interview.

not sure if this is what you meant but it's not higher than iu's original version (because she's a female singer, if it was i would be shocked), they just do two half step modulations (one at taemin's and one at onew's part) instead of one. so shinee’s version goes up in key twice while iu’s original version only goes up once.

Thanks a lot for your reaction ❤️ I am so happy that you loved Onew's voice ❤️ IU herself stated that she is a fan of his voice. So to give you the context of this episode of IU's palatte, in case you haven't yet watched it 1. SHINee and IU are debut colleagues. As in they both debuted in 2008 2. SHINee are very popular for their vocal skills and so is IU. 3. SHINee(except Jonghyun) never really interacted with IU(atleast on camera except for a couple of performances) apart from coincidentally passing by each other when they had to perform on the same day. So this was a very sweet and long awaited interaction. They were both equally happy to be talking like this after years into the industry. 4. Jonghyun our beloved, member of SHINee, who is not with us anymore, was a very good friend of IU's. He wrote songs for her and they both exchanged ideas on music. 5. This episode was special for SHINee, IU and shawols because IU brought back IU's pallate for SHINee (as in she wanted to bring it back with her album release but because SHINee wanted to be on her show she brought it back early). She mentions in the episode that she always had seniors and juniors on the show but never colleagues so it's nice to have SHINee on the show. 6. IU and SHINee swapped songs as in IU did a cover of SHINee sherlock and SHINee sang dear name. 7. If you are familiar with Dear Name lyrics then this cover would hit you different. They are singing their hearts out but also for Jonghyun we all miss very dearly. Which is why IU was so touched by the end of the cover. The episode was so full of warmth please watch it when u have time. Also please give SHINee's other work a listen and you won't be disappointed. You will be surprised to see the variety of genres they have tried and how musically talented they are ❤️

They always position themselves like this even in tv shows or concerts: Onew -> Taemin -> Jonghyun -> Minho -> Key. I see SHINee I subscribe 👍 seriously though you cant go wrong with their live performances. Their solo stuff too- everything by Taemin is amazing, Onew rainy blue and blue and Keys whole album face is amazing. Ha ha very jealous you are getting to listen to them for the first time.
