Nothing better than watching a TANK of bass chasing a lively native shiner on the surface until it FINALLY sucks it in! Tell tale sign it's a big girl, a nice SLOW RUN and when the rod stops short on the hook set!!! Sends chills just thinkin' about it. Can't wait for the weather to break up North here.

Even here in Massachusetts I throw monster native shiners. Catching them using small pieces of pizza dough and a 10 foot cane pole (OLD SCHOOL). My late father swore by the motto big baits, big fish. He always said I'll take one fish over 5lbs. than 20 over 2lbs. He had to his name 18 bass over 7lbs. and 3 over 8lbs., all on natives. In MA that is considered AWESOME!!! I have a tribute vid in his honor if anyone wants to check it out. And for you C.C.I love how you fish and would love to someday get out there with you sir and pitch out a few MONSTER SHINERS!!! You remind me a lot of my DAD!!! Keep up the good work.

Yep! Shiner fishing is a great way to catch big bass. Fishermen who have never tried it before don't know how exciting it is! Also thanks for the kind words and thanks so much for watching!

I sse ya like using that age old, proven technique of hooking shiners at their bottom fin for fishing under floating mats. I use that method too. Great day of bass fishing there ......way to go CC !!!

Do you catch your own shiners? I was thinking about giving that a try since they're getting so expensive. If you do, please post a video on that! Thanks

There are lots of youtube vdos on how to catch wild shiners.

Find areas that harbor lots of nice shiners, chum the water with crumbled up crackers, bread, dried outmeal, some cerials (like Wheaties ) soybean cake, etc......then use a good quality, fairly large castnet. You can also catch them with a cane pole with light line, and a VERY tiny hook, using FRESH white bread only, ( if the white bread isn't very fresh, it will fall apart off of your hook ) rolled into a tiny little dough ball & placed on your hook. This method takes longer, but it's still quite effective. I've used both techniques over the years with great success here in east/central Florida. You would be surprised at how certain canals, small ponds, and even deep ditches harbor lots of jumbo golden shiners here in Florida. The hardest part is finding productive areas, canals, or ditches. It doesn't have to be large lakes & rivers. Ya may have to spend days trying to find the productive bodies of water. But putting in the time will pay off. Try to discover several productive canals, ditches, or areas on a lake or river........that way, ya don't "wipe out" your shiner holes. Because it's easy to wipe out a productive canal or ditch. You also need to make or buy a decent aeriated livewell that is insulated from the heat and out of the sunlight. Of course many boats are equipped with nice livewells. Hope this helps, and good luck.

I can be reached at (386)325-3743 and leave a message. May take me a couple of days to get back to you. I get tons of calls every night and I'm often too wore out to return them every evening. Many times I'll just wait till the weekend when I have more time and I'm not so tired!
