Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a painful rash caused by varicella-zoster virus (the same virus that causes chickenpox).

After a person has had chickenpox, the virus continues to reside in the body, causing no symptoms. Later in life, it can become active again, causing shingles rash. The term "shingles" comes from the Latin word "cingulum", which means belt or girdle; this is because the rash usually appears in a band or belt-like pattern.
Three antiviral drugs are used to treat shingles:
- Acyclovir
- Famciclovir
- Valacyclovir.
Two vaccines are available for shingles. Zostavax and Shingrix.

Thank you for this video. My 99 y.o. mother is trying to recovover. I will increase on the anti inflamatory pain meds. I will try, somehow to keep her body uncovered. The weather if cold, and she also has the rash under her left breast. 🙏🏻

I've had shingles for a couple days now but the thing that's bothering me the most is the pain that's inside my stomach it's got to be connected do you have any advice for me I don't go to the doctor I haven't been to the doctor in 10 years I just have an issue about going outside and is there a way to dry them out quicker

Take indigestion tablets or liquid and take anti inflammatory pain relief for the general pain alway with or after food ... keep the area uncovered as much as possible as the air will help dry them out and DO NOT pop the blisters! i am 13 days into the agonising pain but on day 7 of the rash, i spotted the rash on day 1 and took anti virals on day two. Are you certain it is shingles??

You can't get proper chicken pox more than once!! you can get it twice if you get it very mildly the first time and what has this to do with his shingles?? chicken pox lays dormant in the nerves and becomes shingles!

Chicken pox can lie dormant in the nerves to come out at times of stress as shingles. This is what starts the spread of chicken pox outbreak. They are the same virus
