I thought it worked well as a vintage piece inspired by even older eras. As beautiful as Amber Valletta is, I think it long dark hair worn up and high would’ve created a nice lifted visual triangle with the opera gloves which would’ve been an interesting counter to the shoulder and v-neck triangles. Opera gloves don’t necessarily trip my trigger, but this time they helped “put on the brakes” with all that gold. I like the symmetry for that as well.

I like the top portion of the gold dress, but the bottom looks like the bottom of Marilyn Monroe’s gold dress, so it looks mismatched to me. The way she had her hair was unflattering & washed her out. I think if the bottom was a pair of well cut, not too wide legged pants ( to keep it a bit more modern) would look better .

At 61, I lived through the crazy disco era, & into the 80's experiencing the nightmare of shiny spandex & the dreaded exaggerated shoulder pads (shudder) 😱 As a young professional (sales for a while), it was a true challenge to find blazers, suits or even dresses without those ridiculous pads! I immediately cut them out as a matter of course. The shiny dresses or tops I did own were light & flowy, never stiff or heavy. I agree with you on these reviews, there were some truly hideous didasters!. When done right, It can be dazzling & dramatic. However the perfection of the cut, fabric, fit, flow & undergarments are absolutely essential. Without a doubt, the finest triumph was the exquisite Catherine! I'm happy to say, to my middle school graduation... in mid 80s... even my granddaughters laugh at the picture with me. The bonus part of that dress was... I was a size 0 and the dress was tailored to my body shape and size, no bunching or fabric pulling anywhere. She did a catwalk the length on the stadium in a rose gold metallic number that is about the only dress that really gives Catherines Bond dress a run for its money. Those two ladies are absolutely stunning. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to see William's reaction the first time he saw his wife in that dress.

I wanted to mention that I was in my 20s in the 1980s and I am tall with extremely narrow shoulders and shoulder pads actually did me a favor during that time. They balanced out with my hips and made my hourglass figure look as it should. I am in my 60s now and struggle with my shoulder issue to this day - straps are always falling down; bras, bathing suits, spaghetti straps, you name it. When I was a child my mom used to tie my bathing suit straps together in the back with a shoe string in order to keep my suits on.

I had the opposite problem with shoulder pads - I have naturally broad shoulders, and combined with a relatively flat chest, let's say shoulder pads were not a good look. My very 80's solution was to unpick the shoulder pads, which were often covered in the same material as the top / blouse, and make a scrunchy with the fabric. Always had a scrunchy to match every outfit!

I have narrow sloping shoulders so they did me a favor too. I would wear small shoulder pads today if I dressed up. I am 76 and dress casually now but they would still help with a shoulder bag.

I’m a photographer, and I don’t mind a bit of dew. However, if it bothers you, you can bring you light source closer (it will make it brighter so you’ll need to change your camera settings) and it will make your light softer. The second thing is to add some diffusion. Depending on the brightness of your light you can throw a thin sheet or pillow case over it (I’m assuming it’s LED) or they sell diffusion panels and soft boxes :)

One problem with these dresses is that they ofteb look like two dresses mashed together. This happened mixing half and half with metallic and feathers. Katie Perry matched her hair to the feathers which didn't work. Kanye had final control of everything that Kim wore and I agree with you that he did not help with her look. When I first saw Jessica's dress it looked like camouflage. The 80s retro dress shows that fashion of that time needed major help. The shoulder pads could take an eye out. Meghan's dress needed the straps. I don't like how the center slit looked. Maybe because the fabric was rather stiff. The silhouette worked for her but it was not appropriate for the function. The Gucci gown showed all the problems the other dresses had all at once. There were several dresses mashed together with Victorian at neck and shoulders, cocktail waitress apron, and Grecian draping at the ground. Poor Dakota's hair was totally unsuitable. I did not know that Jenny Packham designed a special line to celebrate the 60th anniversary of James Bond. Princess Catherine looked amazing in this gown and she stole the first place in your list. This shows what a metallic dress can look like. Thank you for this video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Most of those photos were at events where celebrity attendance was being photographed rather than specifically photographing reflective fabrics. On top of that, almost every dress shown would’ve required different lighting. Lighting is Everythjng.

Shiny? You? No, no, no. You're absolutely lovely. Don't focus on any maybe negative! And that's coming from someone that is extremely oily all the time. My makeup lasts three hours at most and then it's gone. lol And this list is right in every single point! Personally, I'm not a fan of metallic/shiny as a whole outfit. I don’t mind flashes of shiny or small features of sparkle (if that makes sense) ❤😊🇦🇺. Having said that I think Princess Catherine looks magnificent and her dress is appropriate for the occasion.
