The point of slowing down to speed up has been the biggest one I've noticed and realised over the last couple of months. I thought that going 100 km/hr was great, but when you're doing 100 km/hrin a circle.. it's no so great! Great points and points I'll put into practice! Cheers

Wow I was told to be surrounded by people who I can teach them something, people with my same relatable thinking and people who knows more than you, to learn from them which is generally people older than you. San, I think you really have some valuable info and advice for us to catch them and put some of them in practice. I love it when you said that you give to yourself 7 days off after 90 days of work. I hope I can be able to develop this way of living. Good for the family too though. I've watched two of your recent videos right up till the end to get as much detail as possible. So I sort of worried about the fact that I can tell so many teenagers entailed in videos games as well as social media. I have 25 tho. Even most of my generation too. Quite including myself. If you read this message I want to tell you whether if you can drop me a about how we can start working on this and what would you recommend to step out of that idle stage. Best regards from Colombia 🙂💪

I really like the concept of focusing on value and distancing yourself from the hype. For a recent example, I got a Macbook (not a hyped macbook pro, just the 12” macbook) recently - precisely because it was discontinued. I had the older version that was scoffed at for not being powerful enough to do anything. The computer was a beast: able to quickly do spreadsheets, video edit, writing software, etc. I got the newer 2017 old one because I knew they’d be harder to find later on. I sold the old one for a $200 profit and basically broke even with the new one to get 16GB RAM instead of 8GB. Now I can run windows for CAD programs for an on-the-side Engineering freelancing, run Mac writing apps, and focus on learning new things with the extra ram in a portable, affordable package. On the other hand, I find myself immersed in the newness hype for things like VR. But I’ve been following the scene for a few years and looking into developing some simple software and learning the ropes with data science as a foundation as it might be the future. I would appreciate more clarity on how to determine when you’re going too slow versus going too fast. Is it just the 24-48 hour time lapse that makes a difference or is there scaling based on how much of an impact this decision will be?

I was unable to do this, unfortunately. The idea of tracing everything to philosophy reminds me of the lectures on Objectivism by Nathaniel Branden. In it he breaks down Philosophy into Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, Politics, and Aesthetics - each of which builds on the prior.

Make a video about QUITTING. How to know when you have failed and actually going nowhere? When the new "shiny object" idea is actually better than the current thing. How to tell that your selected niche is actually wrong. Is moving to a different niche a good idea or stick with the old current niche until you find the success. Started business not really knowing anything and just learned step by step and now knowing way more than before I understand that niche I'm in is very broad and I really don't care about it too much and I'm not very interested in it, but maybe I'm not interested because I haven't found the right formula for success yet. They say winners never quit and quitters never win. So what to do? Stick with something I have already invested time/money that I'm not too much interested in and haven't made it work yet or start from scratch/change niche and apply all the things I have learned before.

0:10 shiny object syndrome is procrastination where you find something new to do. 4:25 inverse philosophy: people think new = good, popular = good whereas the inverse should taken to be true 5:20 what you don't do is more important that what you do do 5:40 In-n-Out case study: defined by their simple menu + 0 advertising 10:27 Face problems in the third person and control thought branches 13:15 Business is slow and long-term unlike trading 13:58 Making decisions rapidly can cause great damage in the future 15:10 Decisions that can't be undone or changed easily require maybe days of thinking 16:16 Write an argument for a decision and then come back to it in 24 - 48 hours 19:24 Important moves will come to you in signs that appear repeatedly 22:23 Avoid echo chambers like the plague 23:02 Be especially suspicious of regular people talking about a niche topic 27:10 Sleep deprivation prevents conscious thought and presence which causes bad decisions so sleep properly 32:12 Cultivate creativity by finding links between different fields 33:18 Cut off sources of shiny objects and other bad influences 36:00 Market votes in the short-term but weighs in the long-term - Benjamin Graham in *The Intelligent Investor*

Hey Sam, I'm only writing this comment because of what you said about leaving a comment "I look at them and that influences what videos I might make". By saying that I feel like my comment has more value, because I know what you're intending to do with these comments. Thank you! Your video as well as other videos from you helped me to reframe my situation, put things into perspective and yeah you're basically just giving me a frame that allows me to operate more effectively. What doesn't help is that this video is not really actionable for me. It helped me for my mindset without giving me "quick fixes" which is a good and bad thing. It's good because quick fixes doesn't get you anywhere, you're just taking care of the symtomps without deepening your self-awareness and becoming aware of the root-cause. It's bad because giving us something actionable to do after the video doesn't have to be a quick fix. It could be something that deepens our self-awareness. Like - sit down, take some deep breaths, feel your body and then look what comes up and write it down. By that I could let my intuition do the work of putting your information into the context of my life by giving me pictures, and clues and stuff like that and activating my inner network of information and insights. The recurring theme that came up for me in your videos (but also inspired by Gary Vee) is: Balance. Pulling from opposite directions. Yeah go to different communites to learn and grow. But at the same time be based in a community which really resonates and nourishes you. Roots & Wings. So here is my "balance list" of your points. 1. "What you don’t do is more important than what you do." - Stop doing stupid things, cut them out and gain a huge upside. Improvement by Substraction. and also "What you do is more important than what you don't do." - It's more important if you take an assessment of your situation so that you can become aware of all the bullshit. 2. "Take your finger off the trigger" - stop being impulsive and "Have your finger on the trigger" - be impulsive in a safe context. I learned that from Radical Honesty. Sometimes it's good to go through the emotions and just say out loud whatever you're thinking, experiencing in your body and feeling. 3. "Slow the fuck down" - take your time for important decisions, but when you decide for something you're absolutley certain about, then "Go fucking fast" or as Gary Vee puts it: Macro Patience & Micro Speed. 4. "Let the universe scream at you" - don't write ideas down, forget about them and see what remains but also "Listen to the universe whispering at you" - become aware of the connection between your feelings, wishes, intentions, thoughts and coincidences ... write them down to become more aware of them. I learned that through Deepak Chopras Book "The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire" But don't move ideas to a to do list ... let the universe scream at you. 5. "Distance yourself from the hype" and also "Get a taste of the hype" - get a taste of the hype to get insights. I've found the best Life-Coach for dealing and dissolving trauma and overwhelming emotions and becoming more of who I really am by listening to the hype. People were suspicous about that guy and thought he was crazy. But because these people were Pick-Up-"Artists" I just inverted it and thought - "If they think he is crazy, he must be genius." 6. "Regain your sanity": Get some sleep, eat properly, take a rest day each week, take a 7-day vacation every 90-days. And also "Lose your sanity" - stay awake ... experiment ... do some active meditations where you can basically act insane... maybe also get in touch with insanity by reading autobiographies about insane people ... so that you won't get surprised some day by turning into a monster. We've all got the potential for insanity inside of us. We've all got a monster inside of us, sleeping ... but under the right circumstances it will be unleashed and you be better prepared for that and know your monster .... or it will take control over your. Either you come in touch with it voluntarily or involuntarily. My ex-girlfriend came in touch with it involuntarily by some conflicts. She was shocked by her own violent behaviour. 7. "Cross-pollinate your sources" - Get outside of your traditional incest tribe, start mixing with some outsiders and applying their principles/philosophies to your work but also "Stick to your roots" - Be or build or look for a community in which you feel safe and nourished. Wings & Roots. 8. "Out of sight out of mind" Delete your apps, stop using social media, don’t tempt FOMO/envy/stupidity. "In your sight in your mind" - Put the things that have a positive effect on you in your sight. I do that with books. I have to be able to see them. I don't have all of them in a book shelf. I pick some books which my intuition tells me I should pick, put them in my sight and then just listen to my feeling which book to read right now when I've got a challenge. Always works. Never fails. And what's interesting: My mind always tells me which book I should read based on what I can see for example when my mind see's a connection between the book title and my challenge it tells me: You should read that. But it never feels right and it never works. My intuition draws connections much more intellegently. Just listen to your gut feeling. 9. "Focus on value by weighing things": In the short term the market is a voting machine, and in the long-term, it’s a weighing machine. Be somebody who cares about weight, not fashion. "Take advanting of short term voting" - use the short term voting to see what fits you and what doesn't. Use it to deepen your self-awareness. Like flipping a coin. Your gut feeling will tell you what's right. Or you could even interpret it that way: Disguise in the current fashin to get speak to more people about your long-term value. The hype will be over some day - but people will remember. Thanks for the inspiration Sam, that was great! I learned A LOT! Now I've been writing all of that - so I need to create balance, get out of my mind and do something ;)

It has helped me realise two things about myself in a very deep way and both of those are tied to the shiny object syndrome. One is im risk seeking when it comes to a new opportunity but suddenly risk averse when I'm met with challenges in that new opportunity. This leads me to seek out new shiny objects to be risk seeking and the circle starts again. Two im curious by nature but instead of cross-pollinating my mental frame with diverse subjects to seek insights , I seek diverse insights in the same subject which creates overwhelm eventually and confuses the fuck out of me. the diverse insights in the same topic are saying the same thing but expressing it differently (the destination is the same , the roads are different) and I end up not arriving at a firm conclusion on the subject because I'm constantly jumping roads and each time I jump I starting with half information, hence I severely delay the conclusion. Both problems feed into shiny object and listening to what was said in the video. Triggered this inner- sight (quite literally) and so I thank you 🙏🏼

In my opinion, this is one of your most important topics that you cover. We can have all the knowledge and talent we need to succeed, but we will never attain success if we keep hopping from one business to the next when things get tough. Without knowing this, almost nothing else matters. Of course, one could produce immediate results in an endeavor and in that way attain success without curing SOS. Unfortunately for people who have SOS, immediate success in anything worthwhile is very rare. So, for most of us, curing SOS is one of the most, if not THE most, important factor in attaining success. Sam, on another note, I am, and always have been, an unorthodox athlete. I scored a 1300 on my SAT in 2004, which many sources say is equal to an IQ of 130 - 135. Of course, this is not a genius level IQ, and the conversion is not exact. But the point is I am a fast learner and I acquire new skills quickly. I have not doubt in my mind I would become a valuable asset to your organization. If you gave me a chance, it would change my life. I would work 16 hours a day, literally, if that's what it took to prove to you that you made a good decision. At the very least, wouldn't it be a great story to tell? sdyoung222@gmail.com

If you're not rewatching, relistening, and reliving Sam's notes... ...you are doing something wrong. I had 5 minutes left on a flight and could listen to anything, so I decided to fit in Sam's last video a few times. I got to meet his student's student! Sam's stuff does more than just get Real Results™ ;)

Shiny object syndrome is for people who aren't confident in themselves or what they're doing. If Bill Gates or Steve Jobs had shiny object syndrome, Msft and Apple would have never survived. Stay focused and enjoy the ride (aka crap sandwich) that you're inevitably going to be on during this thing called entrepreneurship.

Heyy Sam appreciate these videos a lot and learning so much. The only downside is from my part. Can you make a video on "How to get the Most out of learning?" Sometimes you read a book or watch a video and by the end you haven't learned anything. Or even when you finish an important conversation with someone and you forget everything so you're fucked. Maybe it has to do with focus and attention span. Thanks you're awesome.

This is the 3rd time I am watching this video - but within the last 3 years. The more I am focusing on finding really good solutions for existing problems, the better I understand, what sam is talking about. It really calms me down and helps me to have a clear mind. This is very valuable.
