He didn’t have to win, all he needed to do was stall long enough for Sword Master and Hawkwood to beat their enemies, the moment those two won their priority became help delay the guy who could one shot the team's heavy hitters. (Because by that point Lapp was on his last legs from playing brickwall against 4 enemies, Gael was either dead or heavily wounded, and Shira had taken some hits)
