I can't take this watch off my wrist since getting my hands on this exact timepiece.the finish is brilliant... The brush finish on the side of the case is perfect better than polish look. It fits perfect on my wrist and the bracelet is very comfortable because of the taper from 20mm to 16mm. This watch is staying in our collection forever

Very impressive, all of the boxes are ticked: sapphire crystal, thin case, ceramic bezel, good movement, nice finishing, good QC. Honnestly, I don't mind paying more for such a beauty. Totally worth it. And you if you want an even betetr price, just wait for 11.11 sales. Take my money San Martin!! :-)

Excellent thorough review with great details of the watch by San Martin. I have this watch with the black dial and indeed is a nice looking watch. I do recommend this watch to anyone looking for a well designed watch by San Martin. Continue to do as you do in your program with the great reviews without the hype that others tend to present. Thank you for the presentation that you provide that is exceptionally well done. 👍

Thanks for the video, it helps in decision making. I do find it humorous that people complain about the cost when there’s so many really average watches costing a lot more. The total package that this watch presents is just exceptional value. This watch could be worn with pride knowing you have one of the best finished watches available. I’m just trying to learn to accept the snowflake hand before placing my order.

I own a SN040G-2 so trust me when I say this. A bezel with matte finish would make the watch look boring, especially with a matte dial. It would look like a complete tool watch, which most people aren't looking for in a San Martin.

Exactly. Is it expensive for an AliExpress watch? For sure. But is it expensive for a watch with that level of fit and finish with a PT5000 or even a Sellita SW200 in it? No, it isn't. It kind if is a steal for what it is. San Martin really redefines what value in the affordable watch world means. They are the new refference.
@stevetownsend13893 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Comparing this San Martin watch against the price point of a Seiko of similar specs clearly illustrates that Seiko is primarily interested in their profit margins. I love Seiko, but I feel like I'm getting played with their new releases.

@TheShotenZenjin3 жыл бұрын
I think Seiko vs Chinese brands is similar to iPhone vs Android. Android phones usually offer a lot more, technically and functionally than Apple, but the iPhone has its devoted followers and a strong reputation for its reliability. As a consequence, the resale value of an iPhone is usually twice that of its Android equivalent. This could well be the same with Seiko. In fact, some particular Seiko models can be resold above their rrp! Having said that, I love my own San Martin watch and have no intention of flipping it!

As soon as there's a decent sale (11/11 or Black Friday?) I will be getting one. Although I know it's not there in the Tudor BB58, I wish they'd create a version with a 6 o'clock date & colormatched date wheel. That would make it absolute perfection in my eyes.

Thanks for a great review!
@1SaG3 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen it in the flesh, but from what you show and what I've seen in other videos, I'd say San Martin are typically about the same quality as if not better quality than Steinhart. And since I own five Steinharts, I can comment on their quality and thus qualify my comparison as a pretty big compliment to San Martin. ATM, there are only two things that hold me back from buying this watch or SM's 38mm retro-diver: 1. Three of my Steinharts (39mm OVM, 39mm Vintage GMT Pepsi, 39mm "Marine Blue" Tudor homage) scratch pretty much exactly the same itch as the two SMs . And I'm having trouble already giving my current retro-watches enough wrist-time. 2. The end-links on this BB homage seem to protrude way too far beyond the lugs, especially for a 40mm case. I have a 6.75 inch/17cm wrist which can *just* pull off a 42mm Steinhart - but those have female end-links. So I fear this one might look a bit odd on me - at least on its bracelet.

I purchased V2 of this watch after seeing yours and other videos reviewing it (female end links, no bolts on bracelet). I can only tell you the quality of all elements of it are on a par, or superior, to watches I own that are considerably more expensive. That includes a Breitling Superocean Heritage, Steinhart, Zelos, Mido and several Seikos. The operation of the bezel, quality and longevity of the lume and overall finishing are exceptional. Mine has operated well within COSC standards (prox 2spd slow) and is a Timegrapher star, with negligible rate variances and beat error and an amplitude in all positions of 240 to over 300 deg. Not sure what else you can ask of a watch, so I consider the $330 price (PT5000 variant) an absolute bargain and easily the best value for price of all the 30+ watches I own. It remains to be seen how the watch holds up over time, esp the PT5000 movement, but I am very pleased with this purchase and will look at San Martin first for any affordable watches I'm considering

It is always a pleasure to see your reviews. You're doing a good job. The watch makes an good impression. In Europe, however, there are also customs and taxes. This means, that the price of the watch is close to that of a Steinhart.
@ShinyThings3 жыл бұрын
@Udo Jäger, Thanks for sharing! 🙂 Yes, totally agree, they are entering a very competitive price segment. And, even though I believe San Martin's lume is far better, Steinhart still has the 'magic' words 'swiss made' on the dial 🙂 Although clearly viewers of this channel have a strong SM preference 😊
@Tangylives3 жыл бұрын
@@ShinyThings Honesty once I start looking at the Steinhart price bracket, I just sort of lose interest. I always feel like I'm just settling for "good enough" in that price range. Yet at the same time if I get two or three of these "good enough " watches, suddenly I'm in the same price segment as a used Oris or Rado. This is the same reason I don't have many microbrand watches. There needs to be something special that makes stand out from the crowd.

This bracelet will need all the screws to be fixed with thread lock ( low grip) these small screws always work out . All the screws will need removing and rethreading with Screw Thread to lock screws in. Screw thread was provided with watch. I had a similar WatchGecko bracelet which was very prone to screws dropping out. These screws are very hard to use as they are tiny and easy to loose. Other than this the bracelet is very good.

Thanks for the video - nice looking watch but my one and only New Year Resolution was no new watches over 40mm. I have the PT5000 in a Cronos watch and like it's performance - do you know if the PT5000 manufacture offers a chronometer version? I would pay the higher price for that specification even before I'd pay a similar price for the SW200.
@ShinyThings3 жыл бұрын
@Jim S, Thanks for your comment 🙂 My understanding is that the watches with the PT5000 can be chronometer certified, however HKPT (the manufacturer of the PT5000 movement) does not offer a specific "chronometer certification-ready" movement like Sellita SW200-2 at this point.

Nice homage. But 4 things I would prefer to be different: 1. They could have skipped the fake rivets on the bracelet. 2. The Bezel is flat and shiny. A little bit of angle and less reflectiveness on it would make it look a lot nicer. 3. Logo is too big 4. The sides are brushed, not polished. In my opinion a polished side would be nicer, like the original BB58.

The BB58m being a 39mm and having "female" end-links, slides quite easily if worn even a tad lose. From my experience with the SM sub homage, the male links provide a better sitting on the wrist. Of course, eventually, it depends on wrist circumference. Thank you for the review. I'm really curious about the blue version as that one doesn't have the yellow lume markers, which, I think, it makes it look better. I'm disappointed they haven't thrown in a quick adjust. I might have bought the blue version, if that was the case, as I really struggle with the Tudor not having that.

As with most San Martin watches there's a lot to like but I just cannot stand their logo. I just fail to see how '1960's cartoon hippie script' has a place on a homage to a serious timepiece. Everything else seems so beautifully serious. Maybe it's just me. Great review sir, very thorough.

Price is not a problem, i think the watch is worth the extra money for the quality it packs. Their logo is too large and its aesthetic kind of funny, unsuitable for a serious watch brand. The main problem is the bracelet with those rediculus fake rivets that i also hate on the original Tudors. I think the male endlinks overextend. Female links would make it much more balanced and wearable for most people. San Martin is on a good path, if they listen to what people need, we will see very interesting things from them.

With the original Tudor becoming available from ADs only the price benefit can make the San Martin attractive. Or does it? If the original Swiss watch was not available as rhe Rolex 1016 Explorer, I would agree. Aliexpress does not allow returns after 15 days and the communication with the seller is null thereafter. When you buy from the San Martin store on Aliexpress, you lose money. The movement PT5000 is garbage

This San Martin spinoff is very nice but it is a homage watch at the end of the day. At this price point I can buy for example a Hamilton Khaki King which is an original from a highly respected maker. I flip my watches over time and a chinese homage is pretty much worthless for flipping. I am much more comfortable in buying the San Martin 6200 if zi went in that direction. Because it is Chinese has no bearing in my thinking. I already have a Seagull 1963 and am very happy with it. My feelng is if San Martin wants to go upscale they need to branch off from Alli Express to be taken seriously.........

If you've had a San Martin and a Pagani Design watches, you'd know that the differences are huge. I've bought 2 submariner PD watches - the 1st 43mm was decenet but had it's flaws. I sold it and got the new 41mm which was awful! Bezel action, bracelet etc lack some serious QC work. Then I got the San Martin water ghost and it's another level, even considering the pretty small price deferences. SM feels more solid and the machine work is very good. Bezel works amazing, just like my Steinhart ocean one and WAY better than my Seiko sport. 5. Bracelet is done properly including the clasp, and the lume is amazing! You get what you pay for... I'd never buy PD again when I know that for a bit more I could get SM. I enjoy wearing it even when I have the ocean one and Breitling colt in my collection.
