Only thing I don't see properly addressed in talks about enlightenment is the model of enlightenment proposed by Shakti oriented lineages(even including Vajrayana).There are some rare and difficult to get into lineages of tantrism where diksha/shaktipat is such a big and intense phenomenon that you can't call it simply "Piti" levels of ecstasy. I have a rare interview from someone who is from such a lineage where he says that in his case his shaktipat in his lineage that specializes in this gave him levels of realization without him doing much spiritual practice.He even mentioned about existence of high level kriyas that you don't see discussions about and few "teachers" know they even exist.

The way to attainment is vipasanna. The mental purifications that really calm the mind and remove the kelisa. How i realise nibanna through vipasanna? (Greed,hatred,delusions)are momentarily removed in that moment. Sotapanna attainment how it occur and the sequence you will experience..... It starts with vipasanna sitting meditation then until mind shuts down.Before it shuts down,you are clearly comprehending the inbreath watching the beginning,the middle and the end of the breath. Ceesation of conciousness occur during this moment. The mind suddenly shuts down. Ceesation of conciousness is similar to mind shuts down: When this happen,you will not know.(it is because your mind has now stop fabricating just like a factory stop production all machine are switch off and no one working) That moment of not knowing is the moment you enter magga(path)and phala(fruition)where you are no more existing in this ignorance existence of samsara. After the magga phala attainment is over you will be in strong samadhi adsobtion where your whole body are radiance with strong pleasurable sensations.(jhana adsobtion) At that moment you still do not know you have attain magga phala.(only pleasurable sensation overwhelming the mind) As these strong samadhi adsobtion gradually subside,you will now be able to aware of the calmness of mind and body sitting in erect and firm(in lower samadhi) At this moment you can easily aware of your breath as it rise on inbreath and as it fall on outbreath. It is easily notice without effort. It was during this time you will suddenly remember or recollect the mind ceesation or shuts down clearly. You remember it very clearly before it shuts down, your were clearly comprehending inbreath rising,middle and end of breath and suddenly everything vanished,no more conciousness,mind shuts down. Then you realise whole body immersed with strong pleasurable sensations and when the sensation is over you can realise your mind is peaceful ,happy and mindfulness on inbreath and outbreath is easy and that your sitting meditation posture is straight and erect or is very firm(In samadhi state) In this way you now come to realise that you have finally come to know how suffering ends. Nibanna is being realise by your pure mind. Mind that is non greed,non hatred,non delusions. You are now a stream entry or is now a confirmed Ariya or sotapanna.You are free from 4 woeful realms of existence and you only have 7 more existence one as human and another 6 life as devas. If you are hard working and if you continue practice your vipasanna meditation and come to ceesations of conciousness for the second times,your next attainment is Sakadagami and you only have 3 more existence.And if the third time ceesation you are Anagami and the 4th time you are Arahat and will be fully aware of everything and totally free from ignorance completely and never to be born again. May my explaination be enlightening to vipasanna meditators and what is being explain are the final knowledge you will experience when your time for attainment is ripe. Suki hotu. In a hundred years, the many spiritual paths of the world will no doubt be amalgamated into one optimal whole. However, LONG before that (as in, in just a few years) there will be technological means available that will vastly accelerate the path to enlightenment, regardless of which one we choose.

I find the wild cuts quite irritating. The camera cuts are far too many for no apparant reason, almost after each single centece. And then there are editorial cuts like sentences have been left out. Whats the reason for this?

Hi Buddho, sad to hear you're irritated at the editing. I had a super fun time making this video and the editing was big part of that. The editing is, not surprisingly, and editorial decision. There are a great many unedited videos of Shinzen's online. The goal here was to make this video as easy to watch as possible, and, in the style of contemporary interview videos on youtube. This meant a lot of careful arranging of different points shinzen made. And after listening to the recordings a number of times before editing, I also decided I wanted to cut out all of the "umm"s which were numerous. But, I didn't want anyone to miss them, so they're all included in the end. Hope that helps clarify. ;)

I had chronic back pain for about 15 years. It went away overnight when I read Healing Back Pain by Dr John Sarno. In short, pain comes from the brain. It may be used as a distraction due to life stresses. Understanding that the “injuries” aren’t currently actually causing any damage calms the nervous system down. The pain then disappears. Its track record is about 99-100% for these chronic pains, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, some types of migraines, etc. The effects are said to be permanent. I’ve been pain free ever since.

One thing I despise and detest about religious and spiritual teaching is the tendency to put people on a pedestal. With Mr. Young's methods, no person is elevated to a height of 'guru'...it's a scientific approach. Mr. Young is humble, funny, and doesn't elevate his status to a position of spiritual superiority.

That must come in useful when the remote control gets lost! Seriously though, I do think this is adult only content. You don't want your little fellow vanishing while playing football in the playground, and popping up a few steps later. Treated in a run of the mill manner, but probably time to go back the science of volcanos audio book for the meantime. Going over a 'bump' in consciousness is another way of looking at, I think, but it doesn't seem very remarkable, the happiness independently of conditions seems to be the best goal.

If someone has reached a state of enlightment, and some level of local third party validation, how do they reach out to another enlighten being to get guidance?
@SBCBears
@SBCBears 3 жыл бұрын
Late, but hope this helps. Once a person has entered the stream, full enlightenment will follow within, at most, seven rebirths. These rebirths include human and heavenly rebirths. There will be no more rebirths in the lower realms. So, while more guidance is helpful, it is not necessary for anyone with Right View. Confusion may persist for a sotapanna up until death, but Right View during death will lead to fruition of, at least, the sotapanna path.

Thank you, I will have a look for the book. Would you be able to tell me what was meant by "we live as much in other people as we do in ourselves" from Sci of Enlig, as maybe the explanation got left on the cutting room floor, so many things are so generously explained in the audio book. Does it literally mean (a) personality can arise in two different people at the same time when people are on 'the same wavelength' and even at a later time when one of them is not physically present, and that a personality wave doesn't belong to a particular person, but could theoretically flow through any of us, many thanks, Joy. Just got the new Sci of the Enlig audio book, enormous amounts of work gone into it, but Shinzen isn't reading it so it doesn't flow in the same way or move one onto enlightenment just by listening. It lacks the accessibility of the knowledge and the subtle connection with the teacher. And the silences. But I am really hoping Shinzen gets around to explaining 'we live as much in other people as we do in ourselves' - does it mean other people's personalities can arise in us, although they in fact wouldn't belong to any one person then. After their death? What young Shinzen had isn't ADHD (I'm a teacher) it is/was Aspergers, that's why he is so single minded and clever, and Shinzen also has, in my view, what nearly always goes with Aspergers, Dissociation Identity Disorder - ie he has lots of personalities - the different ones have slightly different looks and voices (more or less high pitched) eg. the aspie technical one, the teacher, the lovely friendly one and definitely one or more like the one who was in the car crash, the personality who suffered from addiction and communicated with the others through meditation, maybe more. The weedy person Shinzen describes is the typical host personality. I think it might be DID kind of folk who are attracted to meditation because they are used to and good at dissociation, generally these people are to be found at the top and bottom of society. I'm not entirely sure that everyday people have what it takes. Also, could the Dark Night (the Dark Knight) be when a young and very scared alter is upset by the process, and comes forward, that no one knew was there? Just a guess really. But it would mean access to mediation targetted at these special kind of folk, some of whom rule the world and some of whom could desperately do with the help they need, I am thinking of a young homeless man on the tube, asking 'I don't know who I am, I just got here, can anyone tell me what to do next?' . Many thanks, J.

@@DeepMindfulness I'm so glad to get a reply. Hope it wasn't too personal regarding Shinzen. I think DID is on a spectrum throughout the world population from singletons to multiples with strong mood shifts in the middle, which might predict who will get enlightenment most easily, but all alters need to be found and be in agreement first, be fully informed, connected and matured. A dark night sufferer might need to be helped to swap alters, firstly informed of the current date and present day situation, probably the others got spooked and have shipped out in a panic. I think DID might just be the underlying issue in all mental health problems, but it is simply an idea that came to me/I worked out by myself. DID is seen as a silly oddity by society, and looks rather silly outwardly. I got my technical information about it from Grantley Morris's website. So glad to be able to pass my idea on. I never got around to finishing the kickstarter meditation school course, but eventually I am planning on doing the phone course. Really glad to have the new Sci of Enligh to listen to, only dipped in so far, very busy family, life, thanks again, Joy. Someone else wants to say, being called weedy isn't very nice as that person was the one prepared to step up and deal with things, which was not a fun situation to be in. Possibly this was the clever aspie one, and feel very sorry for the poor professor who was burnt, hope his personality is up and running and having a nicer time somewhere, if we got that right. Not sure.
@1laraevan
@1laraevan 6 жыл бұрын
Just listening to the Realms of Power part, is it possible Shinzen's big green grasshoppers were his alters, as they do live in the subconscious, and pop out in the real world from time to time? They are entomologically a part of the brain that manifests personality, but they are separated from the main one as they were made to protect him from adverse conditions before the age of five, eg. small children have huge imaginations and being a grasshopper may have protected his Aspie rational type self from harshly felt social situations, grasshoppers can hide easily, grasshoppers can't talk, etc. If so, Shinzen essentially ignoring them is very unkind, they are probably distressed and lonely, and getting bigger to attract his attention. The grasshoppers were greeting him in a friendly manner. Shinzen bypassing his alters and heading towards enlightenment instead of treating them with loving kindness (and helping them to see themselves as not grasshoppers, but as they really are, little children) is essentially asking for problems. The tiger that was manifested could have been a little alter who had made himself tiger-like to feel safer from his attacker as young child (common behaviour in alters is that they come in any shape or size even as objects, monsters, opposite sex, copies of an abuser, and the alters who were left in dirty wet clothes - common for unloved babies, it takes a lot of work to keep a baby happy and clean and well dressed - manifest the icky stickies, for example) and then the tiger is used for a cheap trick to impress other people and never gets the help he needs to understand and deal with what he essentially is, a small child overcome with fear and rage, and grow up to be happy. Could the "plumb lime" option be a very selfish one, essentially ignoring one's own subconscious? The monk who struck his little angels may find, in years to come, that the little girls are even more traumatised and pop out to act out their trauma in ways that could send a adult person to prison. They may have convinced themselves they were female to protect themselves from whatever kind of abuse they experienced before the age of five, ie it only happened to boys in the family. Anyway, I got interested in DID because I enjoy writing sci fi stories, I wasn't expecting to get all these ideas when I am meditating! Sorry to go on for so long! (Again!) I guess my message is, treat your unconscious with loving kindness if you are ever lucky enough to be there, that's what I plan to do anyway :)

Deep Mindfulness Collective Early on in my discovery of Shinzen, I noted his penchant for “uhh” insertions because I am of the same cloth. I didn’t realize that I was not the only one who took note, but your riff on it, chorus et al, is hilarious. It is my suspicion that maybe a good laugh might soften Kali’s edge, and Dr. Gautama proved the depth of his humour many times. The challenges of spiritual growth can be difficult to navigate (no kidding!) and the warmth of merriment seems to me the perfect antidote to the serious and deep work, restoring equipoise (should we ever have attained even that). Thank you for responding.

Shinzen, with all due respect, you are not a stream enterer. You are still at the One Mind stage from what I can tell from your video about your enlightenment that was uploaded in January of 2019. I suggest you google Thusness Six Stages of Enlightenment and read the Bahiya sutta. Also MN 22, MN 38, and Ven. Nanananda's Nibbana Sermons. Nibbana is the unbinding of consciousness, which is constantly expressed in the Pali cannon. It is not the divine source of the universe, it is not awareness, it is not God, it is not True Self. Unfortunately many people have been misled because the easiest thing to attain is this One Mind consciousness in which your awareness expands to infinity (which I believe Buddha called the 6th jhana).

Joel LovesAlba I’ve read Thusness 7 stages as well as many of the posts on the Awakening to Reality blog and it seems that Shinzen has definitely realized anatta/Thusness stage 5 at least. When he refers to the “divine source” in his videos, he’s talking about emptiness, not the universal awareness that practitioners experience in the one mind stage. In one of his videos he describes the screen of awareness as consisting only of the six sense consciousnesses, which is very consistent with anatta realization. Weirdly enough, he also uses the term “absolute witness” to describe cessations in one video.

In Zen, because the meditation object is so externally focused, often the descriptions of awakening aren’t alway as explicit ad those from early Buddhist texts. I personally wouldn’t deny the awakening experience of all of Zen. But glad your experience has been fruitful

Don't ignore the little man standing on your hand (25:40). Bring him back, make friends, and use him to teach you magic! I have 3 of those now, all with different personalities. And by the way Shinzen, those are the same as your demons, and your tree spirits at the college. There are no demons, only spirits with no organic body, so they take on the appearance you "expect". If you want to see them as they really are, you have to interact with them a lot.

There are indeed demons. Only produced by your mind, but demons nonetheless unless you possess sufficient insight. Which I do not.

@@squamish4244 Because you chose to be a Buddhist. It's "Juvenile HInduism" (a delusional offshoot modified to fit in the chinese social system where seniority is mandatory), while Hinduism is defunct North African Shamanism tainted by religion, the same as the Jewish Prophets were practicing. Who also saw and misunderstood demons. Just get rid of that internal dialogue for real! And use spirits and entry to other worlds to perfect it. If you can't break the laws of physics weekly, you haven't gotten rid of that internal dialogue. Just reduced it. We have many now, this is no theory. It's just very old Olmec Shamanism. From before money and gredd.

@@DanielLawton This is all nonsense. You will not find a single reputable schoar you believes Hinduism is 'North African shamanism' (wtf?) or that Buddhism is 'juvenile Hinduism'. Dear god.

@@squamish4244Typical Buddhist. Those are some of the angriest people I try to wake up. But what I said is very obvious if you look around, and especially if you understand what all of those systems are actually doing because you can do 100 times more. Once money was invented no real religion or magic could possibly survive. Also odd that you don't know about that. You're coming from a position of extreme ignorance (Buddhism) about the reality of what's going on in the world of meditation and magic. You've achieved what we call "green line" effects on a map of sorcery states, and been told it's an absolute accomplishment and a goal because the Buddha was so lame he never got any further. It doesn't even qualify as beginner level in the castaneda subreddit. Go take a look! 8000+ year old pre-money magic, practiced for thousand of years unbroken, and easy to show from the archaeological record. Nothing is hidden over there in the castaneda subreddit. All magic out in the open, for free, with instructions, and many successful people trading tips. Not a single one there is trying to take money from anyone. Nor does anyone promote themselves, beyond trying to get people to go over there and learn for real. There's so little real magic left ont he planet. My teacher died, and I ended up being his only hope to finish what he started. Not that I like the job. It's awful trying to get people to open their eyes when they're obsessed with glory.

@@DanielLawton Angry at this nonsense, yes. Buddhism doesn't mean having no emotions. Find me evidence for your claims other than your own opinion and I might consider it.

One stream enterer is not another stream enterer is very misleading. Seem to be redirecting most of the question cleverly. Not as i expected from stream enterer according to the BUDDHA. When he explain nirodho samapathi he cleverly hide it with many different perception thus making the question not clearly answered. The BUDDHA explain ceaseation is the way to stream and to final ENLIGHTMENT. Not other ways. BUDDHAM SARANAM GACCHAMI

Shinzen is a meta-systemic teacher, meaning he is teaching from several traditions at once. It's rare that his language will sound orthodox to someone who is coming from one traditions. It sounds like your background is from the Theravada? Which country have you been most influenced by? Thailand?

I think Shinzen has a lot of respect for other cultures and while from one perspective what you say may be true, if someone in a culture different from ours is experiencing something they call position, something that's very painful, and a person helps them with a culturally embedded process, and it works, it's hard to say that it is nonsense. While religion and belief were totally dismissed in the west for a long time, medical professionals are starting to understand the power that belief and ritual plays in peoples lives. So instead of having an ideologically comforting position, they encourage treatment that has been proven to maximize efficacy, which often involves encouraging people to turn towards their faith.
