Where are the torpedo tubes? and why is a destroyer so big?
@vanguard90679 ай бұрын
Torpedos were usually launched from deck-level, often amid-ships, with tubes on steerable mounts, allowing them to be pointed independent of the direction of the ship. As you note, the ship in the movie does seem to be too large for any WW2 era destroyer. It is also partly because of the small size and simple design of destroyers that don’t allow for below the waterline torpedo tubes and attendant watertight doors. As far as I can tell, it seems as if only WW1 era battleships, like the Texas (BB-35), were built with below the water line torpedo tubes. Thanks for the opportunity for researching this.

Sort of. The original "Philadelphia experiment" was about changing the magnetic field around ships hulls so they wouldn't set of magnetic mines. Then someone made up some bs about it was about making ships invisible and then other conspiracy nutters latched onto it, and here we are.
