This is a cool way to twist a fairy tale. I usually hate when the fairy tale adaptation ends with "Maybe we will write about this COFF and will change stuff so that we can lazily explain why it wasn't identical to the original tale COFF" but this is done more epically. If you have to use this excuse, make it bigger, at least, so it can be explained how it got toned down during the passing of time. There was this Pinocchio miniseries (the one with Bob Hoskin and Robbie Kay) that used this excuse and I'm like... "Yes, because of course Collodi's first draft had Pinocchio being human from start to finish and turned temporarely into a puppet when he misbeheave, or had a human-sized cricket invisible to other people, or had Pinocchio not dying by the hands of Cat and Fox only to be "killed" in the final draft..." at least be REASONABLE when using this excuse. This movie manages!
