Please solve this question -The deck and keel of a flat bottomed barge are identical. Its sides are vertical. The deck consists of two sections - the bow is a triangle 15 m broad and measures 10.5 m in the fore and aft direction, the mid body is a rectangle 60 m long and 15 m broad. It is floating on an even keel with a displacement of 5497.64 tonnes in SW. Find the position of its COB with reference to the keel (KB) & also with reference to the after end.

I'm confused as to why when calculating the immersed area of the triangle (ADE) the value for Base is 12m. Isn't that the measured distance of BC and therefore DE cannot be 12m. From a question on your previous lessons (Press Thrust Calculations on a triangle) you showed how to calculate the immersed area of a triangle (using Pythagorean Theorem), which considered Base to be at the waterline and not the deck line.
