i put my 20ft container in the sun for solar and storage. Even on a 75 degree day its pretty warm. I am first gonna paint the roof in a reflective white paint which should drastically help. Solar is going on top with a battery bank and propane freezer inside.

Thanks for the vid! I want to ask, do you feel any need to have an air pocket between the insulation board and the outer, metal wall? I've heard here and there that an air pocket is a great idea as it insulates further. How was the result for you with this container? Does it stay warm in the winter?

The insulation needs to go on the inside to be protected from the elements. Otherwise it won't work. Hope that helps.

What do you guys have in terms of interior cladding to make it easier/lighter/better than drywall? Is there any graphene materials on the market for interior cladding composites, at least for fireproofing Has anyone made a graphene fiber cement composite for exterior cladding?

So you have to do the floors first until you finish the plywood? And then do the walls? Also, for the floor am I supposed to put the insulation boards first, then put the wooden and metal framing then put plywood, and then do the vinyl flooring?

I've seen it recommended elsewhere to use spray foam insulation so that there are no air pockets between the container walls and interior walls. In your opinion, is that not an issue? I believe the primary concern to be condensation.
@ContainingLuxury
@ContainingLuxury 5 жыл бұрын
osiris031 yeah it’s for sure the best way, but also super expensive, it has to be closed cell spray foam as the open cell will mold. But in our case we foamed every panel and seem so it is still completely sealed, spray foam can also be installed wrong and have missed sections which can be a drastic problem. This way was fast and accurate, however we also reduced the heat-load on the exterior so we did not need that great of an r value as well

can't really tell, but looks like there is an air gap between metal skin and insulation. That's a problem for humid environments, particularly in the Winter. condensed water will run down the cold metal skin and into floor area, yeah?

I was curious regarding the air gaps left in the corrugations behind the insulation. Is that a problem down the line regarding moisture? Do you spray foam in the corrugations? Does that air gap serve any purpose? I'd like to do spray foam but the spray foam is much more expensive in my area than insulation boards. I was happy to find this method of framing, it seems more budget friendly (and easier)
@22jayu
@22jayu Жыл бұрын
As long as there are no gaps in the insulation, you will not have condensation issues. Condensation forms when warm, moist air (which is any air really but the more humid your environment the worse) hits a cold surface. In the video, they are forming an air barrier with the foam by spraying and taping the seams. If the warm air isn't able to hit the interior container wall metal, and there is enough r-value in between them, it doesn't matter how big a gap there is. Spray foam is preferred because it more or less (unless you have a really poor install) guarantees an air seal, whereas the foam depends on how good of a job you do with it.

@MM-tt3np

@@Inspectorzinn2 in this case there will be a bunch of air pockets going from bottom to the top all along the sides and over the roof. or do you have a container with flat walls and roof? ;) a bit sad that spray foam is so expensive. if anyone would start to spray at a decent price people will probably show up at their front door and the day after he/she will raise the price or close *LOL*
@Inspectorzinn2
@Inspectorzinn2 2 жыл бұрын
@@MM-tt3np oh you mean the corrugations? You just cut thin strips of foam board to place in there and just run a bead of canned spray foam along the edges to fill small gaps left. Then the next layer of foam board goes over leaving a flat wall with no air gaps. Yes, it's extremely labor-intensive so not exactly the most practical solution.

I would say on walls roughly 12-17 and ceiling 20-25. We have quite a few air voids and multi layered sections so it is drastically going to reduce heat load, but this particular container is primarily designed for a hotter climate.

@@kumark214 because, what's the purpose of using a shipping container to live in? It's already a waterproof sealed structure and by adding the insulation on the outside you just wasted it's best attribute. Shipping containers aren't cheaper to build in and using them isn't recycling them since any container you would want to live in would be a newer one that would still be used as an actual shipping container. So it would be silly to insulate the outside

Hold on one second, how come the voids of the corrugation are not being filled, won't that just allow for moisture to build up behind there, shouldn't you be using some kind of spray on insulation? I call total BS on this method. Oh, and what's with the wooden studs, etc, you shouldn't be using any wood in that build especially given the amount of moisture that's inevitably going to build up behind those insulation boards.🤯🤯
