One good thing to remember is that with rust converts like that you must remove the scale rust and the more rust you can clean off it the longer it will last. I use to be a painter and sandblasted offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and my foreman didn’t believe me when I told him this so I bet him that he could get anyone to do a section his way and I’d do a section my way and after being home 2 weeks his section was already showing rust coming through mine lasted 6 months

Would taking an angle grinder or Stiff Metal bristle brush on a drill and scraping the Rust off and getting clean surface before applying the tape make a (difference/Be better?) Thanks

It depends on the level of rust. The rust converter needs 'some' rust to work on. I had flaking scabs of rust that had to be removed - no wire brush would do that! If you read the instructions, all the products tell you to remove the loose rust

I'm a little surprised that you didn't just gilsonite the entire top of the container and be done with it.

@9:30 looks like I watched this wrong time , price now $97 per 4L still trying to find it in Australia whats the m2 covering per L ? looks like re-coats needed every 6-8 years
@t.h.o.r. Жыл бұрын
Ouch! thats some price hike!- Ill need another one soon. I bet all good coatings have gone up-so Ill have a look around at whats out there again - But I highly recommend it. - Its good old school stuff. Its used on canal boat hulls in GB and Europe. I get about 4m2 per litre coverage per coat brushed on.

You would improve the seal if you actually cleaned that surface.

Great video. I use phosphoric acid from cleaning supplier for rust conversion. A lot cheaper. They sell it for cleaning coffee machines. I get 4L for under $50AUD. Cheers

@@t.h.o.r. so looking at Mitre 10, Bunnings and Placemakers there doesn't seem anything like this. Online builders merchants seem to want around $150 a roll for anything like this. Does that seem right? I've found the paint online but struggling to locate the flashing tape. Would like to try this.

@@christopherstaples6758 The stuff I use is $60 per 10m pretty pricy bit on a warm day its awesome. I do waterproofing on caravans and stuff with it= good surface frep and a heat gun is the way - but heat guns kill m=y solar in the winter so I prefer to use sunshine
