Duffy I wore out 2 of those 8820s back in the 1980s, great combines get a leaf blower when its dry . They can be a fire issue. Remember 2nd gear in the hills, 3rd gear on the flat land and gentle slopes. Always fold auger back and always Remember auger sticks out back there. GOOD LUCK

25 to 30% moisture corn and you want a suitcase full of 100s! 😅 Not at that % you will be giving the corn away, 17 to 20% then you will get some back!! Drying your own will really save!! Good luck Chris!!👍

A word to the wise, don’t worry about listening to music on the radio. You need to leave it off or extremely low. That way you can hear the machine running and if something changes you can hear it. I farmed for 50 years and I caught things that happened early because I listened to the equipment instead of the radio.

Great to see things moving along for you. You mention the combine not pulling hills too well on the road. As I recall, the hydro unit is belt driven, check that those belts aren't slipping. Over the years on these red combines, the hydro is direct driven off the motor, and I've had to rebuild a few of them when they get weak. But the Deere that vintage had a belt drive from the engine to the hydro pump to make the hydraulic lines to the driven unit short as possible. Another thought on your trucks, there's no way you can be legal on axle load weight on that Mack! Here in Illinois the State Police are really hungry and will stop grain trucks and weigh them. The fines are very expensive! My tandem, I'm just legal at 45000 gross, that's on the plates and axle load. Your grossing 61000, I'm thinking that puts you 4 tons over what you can axle out! Even if the heavier plate covers it, there's still the per axle limits. Here that's thousands of dollars in fines! Maybe in up state rural NY the patrols aren't too hungry? Not to judge you fellows, just a beware caution. I am shelling my corn now and tonight the machine kept slowing down on the separator but not the motor. It got too dark to see what was slipping, I'll deal with in in the daylight! My moisture is 13.5 to 14.5 today.

@ghammond3132 Iowa and Nebraska it was 25+ when my uncle's hit the fields. Appears to be the same story for other KZbin farmers in the Midwest. Dry looking plants but cobs full of moisture. Lots of LNG burning this fall.

@ghammond3132 The reason for not combining corn too dry (~ below 19%) is your header loss increases. Duffy is on the other end of the spectrum with the kernels not fully separating from the cob.

Don't know if you read the comments from the last video. You need to remove the stationary knife assembly from straw chopper. the chopper is not made to break up corn cobs. You should be running whole cobs out of the back of the machine.

Great video. Can you explain a bit about contract corn vs taking it to the mill? What are the pros/cons of either? Using notional numbers, can you describe perfect premium priced corn, prices for wet corn, or what you get docked for at the mill and an overall top to bottom notion prices a farmer faces? Where does your corn go? Animal feed? Human feed? Export?

Congratulations on your first cash crop delivery. Need to frame that weight ticket. I hope you make enough to cover your obligations this year and maybe a little extra. We use those dump carts for mainly peanuts but they have a grain line in them to use for corn and small grains. If you don't want to be combining corn in the snow you may have to just take the hit on moisture at the mill and get done. I have often planted a field and combined it in the fall and said why in the heck did I plant it that way. Remember your combining troubles and it will help next spring when you plant those fields again. There is a screen in the fitting that comes out of the bottom of the fuel tank on that machine. Check it and clean it if needed or the engine can starve for ruel.

On combining: Stop and check the area between the head and before the chopper to get an idea of head loss Look at area in unharvested corn next to a row you already have done. That will tell you the chaffer loss that gets thrown by the spreader Then check behind the combine directly to see what else is thrown out 2 kernals per square foot is 1 bu per acre You would rather end up with more chaff in the grain tank than to throw it overboard so if your sample is too clean you are probably throwing some out. If corn is still on the cob tighten the threading clearance and speed the cylinder up. Good luck with harvest.

How many bushel can you put in the cart before its too heavy to dump? Thinking about possibly using a cart like that and dumping into wagons. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to fill it full without not being able to dump it or damaging the cart. We use them for ear corn but that is lighter than just straight shelled corn.
