As the final video in this miniseries on the wrecks of Operation Crossroads, we will look at the final two wrecks discovered, to date. USS Nevada and USS Independence.
Following that, I will go over the notable missing wrecks (read: the warships). In the future, should there be any notable shipwreck discoveries from Operation Crossroads, I will release a video (or videos) covering them.
0:00 - Introduction
01:02 - USS Nevada
03:30 - USS Independence
06:35 - USS New York and Pennsylvania
10:07 - USS Pensacola and USS Salt Lake City
12:05 - Destroyers
16:21 - Submarines
19:01 - Conclusion

I consider it a grave injustice that the U.S.S. Nevada wasn't made a museum ship as a tribute to ships raised and modernized after Pearl Harbor. It would have been a show of respect to the ships that all made it through the attack!

Likewise the Pennsylvania, especially as the surviving sister of the Arizona. All the surviving pearl harbor BBs deserved museum endings. History wasted on a stupid test. At that point test was useless, who had BBs we might have needed to sink?

They didn't care back then and at least these ships can be visited instead of being scrapped like so many others. Those Kingfishers would've been awesome to save.

I have to call out one point, BB New Jersey has an annual operations cost of roughly 3 million dollars. Ryan put out a video directly reflecting what it takes to set up a museum ship, the video title escapes me at the moment, but it was put out when the Sullivans started having a flotation issue. With the operations costs, there wasn't an organization able to receive yet another BB museum and satisfy the requirements for long term upkeep. Add to that, the BBs had pretty much just been rendered obsolete in the minds of military planners, and using them as targets started making sense.

Felt weird seeing the photos of New York’s sinking. I mean she and her sister look so similar, unless you know what to look for, it’s very easy to mistake her for Texas.

Could you please cover the ships lost around Okinawa? Yamato and her group as well as USN destroyers. The Mannet Abel, the ship sunk by Ohka has been found. There is also the Submarines of the 52 Project and the Ommaney Bay Carrier was just announced rediscovered. Will you maybe try covering European wrecks? DDay, Jutland, Norway, Ark Royal and Hermes have been found too. Thank you for your work so far!

The Germans produced tough ships in both ww1 and ww2. They withstood damage better than most. I believe it was Tirpitz who said that the most important thing for a ship was to not sink.

@@HarborLockRoad Given the decades she's been buried underground, I doubt there's much left of Admiral Scheer, but it would be pretty cool to see what's left of her nonetheless.

We use the picture of the capsized New York to explain the docking keels of the Texas during the dry dock tours we are offering to the public. Singular opportunity to walk underneath the sole surviving WW1, WW2 dreadnought in the world.

USS Hughes' bow and stern aren't missing, they're painted white. Most likely for helping the rookie pilots and gunners get their rounds on target.

Good work. Maybe a listing of names & numbers of the secondary/auxiliary/support ship's that participated in the atomic tests - similar to the destroyers & subs, but without any details, could be a short video for you to do, if only to provide scale for the amount of iron participating. Thanks.

Nevada should of been kept as a museum she had such an amazing history. As for Pennsylvania her rebuild after pearl harbour really made her a really ugly ship. As for the destroyers and subs it's a cheeky cheap way to save a ton of money on scrapping.

I know it’s just nothing more than stripped down hull but fact it’s the only ship (that I know of anyway) that was there at Pearl Harbor that has not been discovered yet. And that’s the USS Oklahoma. It’s known it sank on route to San Francisco in ‘47 but it’d be nice if it’s found, especially before the last of the Dec 7th veteran’s pass away.

Some of the Crossroads targets were brought back to Hunter's Point Naval Base to attempt recovery and decontamination. Much of the contaminated sandblasting media was buried on-site at the base and is now part of an area that can't be developed because breaking through the surface cover soil will allow radionuclides to get back into the environment.
