Thank you for going over this MV! I've been so obsessed with both this song and music video ever since it came out, and it makes me happy to see it get the attention it deserves because it genuinely is so beautiful. I didn't know too much about the connections with "The Swan/River of Tuonela" and "Saint Lucy's Day" so it was a treat to get to learn more about them here from someone just as infatuated with Eve music videos! I think I'd have to agree with you though, that Shirayukihime more than likely considers themselves female at the point in time we see them, and that love always wins, despite whatever the preconceived "norm" is, just like their village's superstition (Also it's 1000% a Frimmel song :3c). In that way really reminds me of a character from Guilty Gear named Bridget, who was forced to conceal their gender because of their town's superstition, but now considers themself female anyways. Also, I think what you speculated to be their first encounter is actually something that happens after the rest of the events of the music video, since in that scene they've already traded a braid of hair with one another that they're each wearing as an earring, like in the final scene of them walking in the music video once they've run away together
