I just found your channel because I’m a composer and trying learn all that I can about the instruments that I write. I recently started to get through the low brass section. Love your channel as it’s really informative for me. Thanks.

They could be! And I know many people happy with them.

Aidan - you provided the information in your opinion that I was looking for re: thayer valves vs trubore valves. Thanks

I hope you get tenor gigs also. From what I’ve heard, you certainly should.

My job is on tenor! I play both pretty much equally time wise these days.

This horn seems like a great fit for a utility trombonist who spends more time on tenor than bass. Seems like a good way to keep your stable feeling pretty similar so that would make doubling a good bit easier. Regardless, great video!

My King 2107 F Trigger is in an odd spot. It is mounted on the gooseneck after where the slide attaches. After 35 years, it is starting to bother me because of my rheumatoid arthritis. Do you think it could be moved? How do these Tru Bore valves differ from a standard rotor set on a King?
@AidanRitchie3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Roger! The King setups can be good and bad... personally I don't much like having the bell brace between the thumb either. These trubores are vastly different than the King rotors in many ways. I wouldn't recommend them if you have arthritis just because they are so heavy, though.

Hey Aidan, have you had a chance to test the trubore valves with a larger bell? Do you think that could make a difference (broader sound)? Great video! Will you do more on the trubore valves
@AidanRitchie3 жыл бұрын
I doubt it- the sound will change, but it'll change with any other bell as well. I have given the trubores back, since my Olsens are up and running- no need to keep them!

Aidan, was that a 42AF you had at the beginning?
@AidanRitchie3 жыл бұрын
A custom one, yes. Made by my tech from a 42BG. I have also borrowed a really good stock 42AFG in the past

@@AidanRitchie cool! I have a 42B that I want to put a new valve on and I’m strongly considering the Olsen axial. Would love to hear your review on that horn!

@@RonRova that one in particular I don't especially like; it's very open and pretty heavy. The stock one I played previously was quite good.

Good news! My instrument finally came in. I don’t have to pay for the final expenses as my early birthday present. Btw, my b-day in June and I will be 29.

@@AidanRitchie I noticed when I first made a sound out of my bass trombone, it wasn’t difficult to play high on it as I imagined it would be. Subsequently, when I attempted to play low in the trigger range; I noticed my sound was not a full and resonant and quasi-orchestral sound.

@@keithshockley3443 getting used to bass will take some time!

@@AidanRitchie lol 😂 It doesn’t help on my part trying to use the same approach on tenor/alto trb. I should try taking things slow and relax. Generally when playing in the lower register, it helps to implement a lot of big, slow moving air.
