Thank you so much. Love PF , Shirley Jones fantastic lady, actress and singer. RIP David Cassidy you are so missed. Thank you for your music, love and joy you brought to my life.
She’s such a great lady-a consummate professional and beautiful person, singer, still an inspiration to me. I wanted Shirley Partridge to be my mom ❤️ and I still feel that warmth toward Shirley Jones.

I Think I Love You was their biggest hit but having had five of their albums there were quite a few songs that I liked to this day I know all of the words and I'm 63 nowadays... Growing up I had two favorite groups The Partridge Family and the Carpenters... Then I discovered Heart... & bands like Styx and Rush

Ms Jones says that her character Mrs. Partridge was the first working mother depicted on TV. I am not so sure. What about Diahann Caroll in the TV sitcom "Julia"?
@denisejervis86026 жыл бұрын
L Martinez, you are right in asking, the question, you posed. I am a fan of both Diahann Carroll and Shirley Jones and enjoyed watching, "Julia," which aired, from 1968-1971 and, "The Partridge Family," from 1970-1974. Diahann Carroll's TV character, Julia Baker, preceded Shirley Jon'es' TV character, Shirley Partridge, as a working mother. Ms. Carroll's role as Julia Baker was an especially groundbreaking one, for the portrayal of the 1st non stereotypical African-American woman on television. Julia Baker was a college educated professional, who was an RN, who was able to hire a babysitter, to look after her son, Corey. In 1969, Ms. Carroll's achievement led to her being awarded a Golden Globe for Best TV Star- Female (Julia, 1968) and in 1970, Ms. Carroll was nominated by the Golden Globes for Best TV Actress in a Musical or Comedy. In 1971 and 1972, Shirley Jones was nominated by the Golden Globes for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. In 2003, (Julia, 1968) won a TV Land Award for the category "Groundbreaking Show." Also in 2003, (The Partridge Family, 1970) was nominated by TV Land Awards for the category of "Quintessential Non-Traditional Family. For a TV music comedy (The Partridge Family, 1970) was groundbreaking in its lighthearted way of dealing with social issues, before a mass audience. These issues were varied, such as energy conservation, whale slaughter, race, religion, battle of the sexes and censorship. This all began with the forming of a family rock band, traveling the road in a Mondrian style painted bus. This type of thing could only happen, in the early 70s.

@@denisejervis8602 Yea there was Julia and other even older shows. Lucille Ball played a working single mother in Heres Lucy from 1968 to 1974. We didnt see any working single fathers until around 1960 with My three sons. Single parents of any gender were not represented until the 1960's.
@denisejervis86026 жыл бұрын
@@tubester4567 Thanks for your reply, and your mention of "Here's Lucy" (1968-1974). I was almost certain, there might possibly have been other single working moms, before Shirley Partidge, on The Partidge Family. As for single working dads, I remember, there was the TV series, The Courtship of Eddies' Father, starring Bill Bixby (1969-1972).

Interesting and enjoyable. I will say, at 2:25, so say "movie stars" didn't do television...Loretta Young, Lucille Ball, Eve Arden, Jane Wyman, Barbara Stanwyck, etc., all had very successful movie careers before turning to equally successful television shows.

It was rare for a movie star to do TV back in those days because once they went to TV, they rarely got to do movies again. Lucille Ball was the exception because, well, Lucille Ball.

While Ms Partridge was not really the first depiction of a working mother, the shows focus was on the depiction of her, as a mother, having her TV show sons & daughters as regularly appearing cast members from the pilot episode on into all of the following ones. David Cassidy seems to be the most memorable cast member. I wrote a blog entry about him. RIP David. simplegirlcomplexwrld.blogspot.com/2019/03/david.html

Late to this broadcast but the sitcom was loosely based on the Cowsills. That musical group The Cowsills, was a great band back in the day but their story is brutal because of the father of the Cowsills severe physical and mental abuse. Partridge family was sugary sweet but the Cowsills kids were brutally abused by the dad.

I have always liked Shirley.The only comment I have is that when she says she was the first working mom on television, that is not a true statement. Diahann Carroll, in the role of Julia, was a nurse, way before The Partridge Family, so I believe she was the first working Mom. I watched the Partridge Family all the time.

That was kinda cold of Shirley to say "too bad " to an exhausted David. Maybe she didn't want to see him get fired. Maybe she could have talked to the producers to lighten his load, oh well it's water under the bridge now. Sometimes I wonder about Steve Harvey , radio show, talk show, author, game show host, etc. Does he ever skerp. Mickey Dozens stated they ran the group ragged as well.
