In 2000 I took my daughter to see Garbage at Mt Holyoke College in Amherst Ma. We were fortunate enough to go backstage and meet the group. We were the only ones invited. She is the nicest person as is Butch. He put his arm around me because it was so cold and Shirley just loved my daughter. We were even offered food. It was a night to remember. We got autographed pics too. She told my daughter to do good in school. So down to earth and funny!! Love you Shirley!!

I can sort of empathize with that. I’m an American of Scottish heritage, born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, and we have a pretty distinctive accent. While serving in the Marine Corps, I started my career stationed in North Carolina. When I first got there, we couldn’t understand a fricken’ thing each other were saying. I really had to concentrate on pronouncing my “Rs”, and they had to learn how speak more quickly and concisely, and get to the point. First few months there, I didn’t even have a name; I was “Damn Yankee”. Being Scottish, I finally lost my temper, told the Gunnery Sergeant to go f himself. “I’m from Boston,” I told him, “ we friggin’ hate Yankees more than anyone does” (Refers to American baseball, and the century old rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.). I did quite a lot of pushups (pressups?), but at least they learned my damned name. lol
