Tuesday 19 Jan, 10:15pm NZ time - Day 7. So, after a week of putting this video up, I've been 'commented' into doing a mix of 850 squats, kettle swings and sit ups. For every comment that I have left a heart on and responded to, you are responsible for ten of them - thank you!!! I will continue doing this daily, as I have been doing, and thank you for your influence in helping my resolve stay strong in taking reclaiming my physical health at this time. Yay to you all!

Congratulations!!! Good luck on your weight journey!!! I just found today KZbin has only been sending me some of your vids not all like I asked, so I have an exciting backlog to enjoy... and do sit ups while watching some, as I too must lose some, due to post surgery pounds-put-on!!!

You're going to hate me for this but I've actually been losing weight over the past year. Along while back my stomach literally perforated without warning and despite no medical history of stomach issues and after world searches, no-one can explain what occurred. I stopped a hormonal medication in 2019 and since then I've been losing weight. I've tried to eat more but I'm still stuck at 45kgs at present. It did get to 44kgs which got me worried but 45kgs sounds better. Many think I'm lucky but when you have absolutely no padding on your body, it's awfully hard to sleep whilst lying on bone and especially to sit directly on the base of you're spine is very much the worst. Anyway, I'm not going to burden you with my issues but support you in your endeavour to lose those kilos. Exercise will definitely help but do not keep weighing yourself. Your muscles will get stronger which may add weight until the excess fat falls away, so don't be disillusioned. Stay away from take-away food and make up your own more healthy versions. If you haven't got one already, an Air Fryer is fantastic. Mine is by Philips and it's just like a mini convection oven except that the fat drips away and there is no pre-heating. It also has a tick from the Australian Heart Foundation. Making up dishes like Fried Rice which can be frozen is convenient and good for you. My previous neighbour was kind enough to bless me with an exercise bike which I try to 'travel' 5kms each day. In support of your venture, I'll be more vigilant. We have all resorted to wearing active wear due to the wonderful comfort. Even the latest fashion shows from Europe are all about comfortable clothing. Gone are sky-high stilettos, replaced by flats in either ankle boots, slide on mules or loafers. Finally they are listening to us! Please do not go overboard in losing to much as you certainly don't look as if you need to lose weight. Maybe just toned up? @@krisushi1 Thank you. I, unfortunately, have some foods, like breads and sugars, that I just need to stay away from. I was very good until our first lockdown, and then, when I couldn't get the more specialised foods I used to, I went back to the bad stuff. And my body doesn't respond kindly! All good. I am not being obsessive about weight at all - just want to feel healthier again.

Whenever I get a sudden urge to diet or to exercise, I find that, if I just relax and meditate, it soon goes away.

I've spent hours a day meditating! Just participated in a lovely guided meditation where the person guiding talked about how important it is to exercise and eat well so that you are balanced. Now i can't get it out of my mind! So much nicer to meditate in a nice warm living room than to go out onto the cold!

I have found that the “flipping 50” podcast and KZbin channel has been a game changer. It’s specifically for women going through peri, menopause and post menopause. I am 52 and a professional dancer for 30 years and in my late 40s became an amateur competitive pole dancer until a brutal assault that left me almost dead and in need of surgeries and basically ruined my body. And much of my spirit. Your videos and the Flipping 50 information have been invaluable in my recovery, because since I live in the US getting the healthcare I need remains elusive if not basically impossible, so it’s been up to me to figure out how to go about fixing myself. I highly recommend Flipping 50.

Sorry to hear what you went through,as in my experience I've been through similar. But it's inspiring you've got such a positive attitude & I feel your pain as in other countries too sadly healthcare isn't as good as it used to be!!😢

@@avivabillington5514 just to give you an update. I don’t listen to that podcast anymore. All my healthcare was denied and my employer won my worker’s comp case despite the videos that show the brutal workplace assault happening. So I am beyond broke at 54, because of the debt incurred trying to get as much medical care as I could. I am not positive. I have had a severe mental breakdown and can barely function. As any person left alone in my position would. Medical care here is impossible to obtain unless you are wealthy.

@@CL-lo4wd that's not good,so sorry to hear this.. You're 100% right that health care's designed to help the wealthy, I haven't heard good things about worker's compensation either!! You stood up for yourself so I 'd be positive & proud about that. Hopefully with a legal loophole/appeal or something you get what you rightfully deserve

Shirley - I can totally relate with you. I could close my buttons - I tried to tell myself (jokingly) that I must have accidentally washed them in hot water & shrunk them. It may have worked at first but not every washload could be an accident. LOL

Friday 15 Jan, 7:12pm NZ time: Day 3. 170 reps done, and about to go on our daily 1-hour walk. We're very lucky - the lake scene at the end of the video is filmed in my back yard, and we get to walk along the lakefront, across a swing bridge and through a forest. The outdoors, especially in summer, which is now for us, is wonderful! Thank you for the comments. I count each one for 10 squats, etc. And I'm being good so far! Keep them coming.

I just want you to know that you just really made my day. I was falling down a rabbit hole of horror regarding the insanity occurring here in the states, and then this popped up and I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. So, thank you for that! As always, you are brilliant and creative and so much fun. And I actually lost weight last year because I started doing yoga and exercising a lot more, but in the last month I have been more sedentary (happens a lot in the colder months), so I've been creeping back up that scale, lol. Also, chocolate is always the answer! Happy New Year!

You said something key and I agree. During the cold weather all creatures naturally have the tendency to accumulate fat as stored energy and insulation from the cold. I think resistance goes against our biology. Thanks for pointing that out. I also agree with you about Shirley and her videos.

Sunday 17 Jan, 7:44pm NZ time: Day 5. 100 comment kettle swings and squats today - thank you all! I pulled out my yoga mat again for the first time in a while, as it was raining outside, thwarting our daily walk. Well, puppy liked 'downward facing dog' so much that she danced between my feet, thinking it was a great game I was inviting her to. Good fun!

I've started growing lettuce with a grow light in my indoor garden. it makes you slimmer, unless you wrap it with bacon. Sometimes these days laughter is healthier than anything else. Thank you so much for that, you are beautiful and talented, God Bless You Today.

Saturday 16 Jan, 9:48pm NZ time: Day 4. 50 comment squats today - many thanks! We had a gorgeous sunset walk for an hour around the lake and in the local forest. It was a very hot day here today, so even walking a bit has felt like exercise!

That part where you were wearing nothing but a wig was hilarious! I couldn’t help but laugh when you were singing “aaah” along with the clothed, disciplined version of yourself because you looked like you were in pain hearing yourself say it was time to get back on your feet and away from the delicious junk food.

If you look closely at that character, you'll see I only have eye make-up on one eye. I didn't think the other one would be seen - oops, it was. Wed 13 Jan, 5:21pm NZ time: Day 1. I've just done a mix of 150 squats, kettlebell swings and situps, thanks to the comments here and on my facebook page. Before that, once I'd finished uploading this video, I took my pup for a kayak on the lake you see behind me at the end of the video. (Will put photo evidence on my fb page.) What the heck have I signed up for here?!! 😅Thank you for the encouraging words so far. I will 'heart' every comment once I've done the exercise for it, so you know you've made it count. Oh Shirley I can so relate!!! Here in NW Florida, USA it is finally getting warm. I’ve been preparing our garden for planting and I come in to rest huffing and puffing between COVID-19 and winter the weight just took over. I think the unique motivation you’ve shown is AWESOME!!! You got this and we will get back to where we were and better.

Three years late, in my viewing of this wonderful video. Shirley- You crack me up ! On the serious side, I've lost 121 lbs (appx 55 kg) via a ketogenic lifestyle... I stopped eating most carbohydrates (with exception to vegetables and some fruits). Thanks again, for sharing your art with us.

Good for you. Go for it! I also need motivation but mine comes from meaningful and communal outdoor exercise. Need friends to garden with, go hiking with, explore the underwater life with or carry little kids on a walk or something.

Same - I am very lucky that I live in a great outdoors area. Just need to take advantage of it more. We do walk for an hour every evening, and I kayak regularly, but it's not enough for me as is. I've just done 10 reps in your honour. 😁

Thank you, Jennifer. Yes, I was on keto too and it worked really well for me. It was hard to get some of the food when we went into lockdown, and that became the beginning of the end for me. That and home baking....

Shirley, even just a walk up to the letterbox and back is good too.... plus walking up and down steps... or walking up and down a few hills in your area... Mercy! It's been almost a year since the pandemic has had affect around our troubled world. But let's remember, people, the pandemic is just temporary and it won't last forever. Until the pandemic really goes away, we must all hold on to our faith and do our best to stay health during these otherwise critical times. Personally, I've been exercising at home ever since the pandemic but, before that, I usually have gone to the gym. I'm trying my darnedest to keep up. How about you? Prayers to all of you, I encourage all of you to hang on.

Hi Shirley. I love your videos. Personally I’ve really enjoyed going on walks and bike rides during these crazy times. It’s fun and refreshing and doesn’t feel like a chore as going to a gym can.

I had a total hip replacement done back in July. As part of the recovery process I was doing a set of exercises each morning. I kept my exercise activity going up to end of November when for some unfathomable reason I stopped doing them. End result is I've started to stack on kilos. But no more!! As of tomorrow, I'll be back on the exercises. Thank you for reigniting my motivation

I lost weight in 2019, then put about half of it back during lockdown because I was eating the same but exercising less. I’ve got the weight off now. Good luck in getting yours off! I love your song parodies.

Love your videos. I'm in surgery recovery, so I have physical therapy. Once I'm cleared to get back to work I will be back to exercising. Walking 5k a week. Walk 3 day. Exercising 2 days. Eat veggies and protein in 6 small meals. Snacks if I need fruits or foggiest. Drink water with lemon and or lime. I also drink lightly sweetened black tea. Good luck on your meal plan and your live style change. Don't diet. Diet is temporary. Life style is permanent.

The only way that I can lose weight is to make a game of it by counting calories, weighing the food and writing it down. I plan on three meals of 500 calories each with a 100 extra for overage or a treat if I haven’t used up my allotted 1,600 daily calories. I try to eat healthy foods (no red meats) that give me the most “bang” for the calories; I try not to drink any calories. Depending upon your age, sex, height and physical activity, you will need to find the ideal number of calories you can have to make progress in your weight loss. The point is by journaling your calories you keep an accurate count and are not as inclined to cheat.

I worked horse farms since I was 13yo and was a dancer sporadically through my mid 20s to 30s while still riding. Then early onset arthritis got a grip on me and several surgeries later (and a pound of titanium in fusions), I don't recognize myself. I haven't ridden a horse in several years either, though I still have 2 from babies. I've been managing raising goats through this and that's what keeps me going or I'd never get out of bed. I love this song, thanks!

I have gained 15 pounds... had to buy 3 pairs of larger, stretchy pants. Part of the gain is some new prescriptions that I need to be on for a while. I am trying to accept my new shape but I’m having trouble.

It's hard, isn't it, Anna? Yes, I realise that my metabolism has changed with age - I just can't get away with the sweet and carby stuff like I used to. It is hard accepting shape change. I really don't want this video to come across as not being body positive or favouring skinny only - but I do think we all owe it to ourselves to be the healthiest selves we can be, however that looks for each one of us in all our different shapes, sizes and selves. Good luck with your journey. This is me also ☹️ and last week I purchased an exercise bike. I am slowly increasing the distance of each of my dog walks (weather and spinal problems permitting) and hope to have doubled my 5 mile daily walks to 10 miles daily by the end of January. Also making sure that I add no junk food to my online grocery shopping order, so that I've no temptations in the house. Fortunately, I've not yet craved eating any of my dog's treats 😂😂😂. I'm in the shielding group here in the UK, so at least I've not been tempted to go for a takeaway or had one delivered since March.

How clever are you! I purchased some weights and have yet to pick them up. All my motivation has flown out the window despite my saying to myself every day that I need to do same as you. Clothes don’t fit, but don’t care and refuse to buy bigger size. I read somewhere this behavior is “normal” now, but I don’t want that. The choice of song is great. Thanks for the chuckles, and maybe tomorrow I will pick up those weights.

Hi Shirley 👋👋 Same thing here, I gain 20kg in a year 🤦but 4 months ago, I decided that enough is enough and started to eat healthy again (with some cheating days from time to time) and every day I walk about 8 or 9 km. I feel so much better and so far I lost 15kg. Now I only have 5kg to lose 😃 Good luck with your goals 🤗

I feel your pain. I had problems when I underwent cancer treatment. Radiation treatment took out my thyroid which has made it very difficult to control my weight and that was way before lockdown. Lockdown is just an extension of the struggle. Good luck with your journey. Love your videos and have shared them with all my friends and family. BTW this comes from St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

Your videos are so hiliarious and you are so talented. I'm not speaking for myself. I actually lost weight this year. I am what I call myself "a social eater". I don't enjoy eating at home. I tend to eat more at social events and parties. And going to restaurants. So for me quarantine has actually helped. I may need to do quarantine even when it's over, ha ha! However, I have been watching Carol 's Dressing Your Truth videos. There are alot of different issues however weight gain was one of her series. She is speaking about Affirmative Actions. Very useful for all areas of life but check out the Affirmatives for weight loss. Good luck on your healthy journey!!

Watching this eight months after its original posting (or at least 8 months since the last comment), I was wondering if you stuck to the promise of the video. For some reason I have been swilling sodas these past months which really added on the pounds (kilos for non Americans ). I also blame the "bad knees" for not doing exercises. As much as your song spoke to me (so true on many levels) I still can't motivate myself do those squats! Guess I'm just a lost cause to exercise. 😜😛😝😲

Love your work with these videos. I can't watch them without smiling and having a good laugh. I am in the same situation as you. I want to lose weight not for my looks but for my health. At the moment I am testing negative for diabetes and I want to keep that way. I have two shot knees that make exercise difficult. I am going to keep plugging away at it and I know I will get there in the end. Cutting down on junk food is just the beginning.

Good for you! The key to losing it is keeping up. I have learned that: Fat is tenacious - once it's there it does NOT want to leave. Fat is hungry - when I start putting on weight, I feel hungrier all the time, and it's harder to resist. Longer, lower-impact exercise works better for me than briefer bursts of hard exercise. I've taken to walking around the neighborhood, starting when I was recuperating from shoulder surgery. First walk a few days post surg exhausted me after 10 minutes! Shocking - I used to hike! So I started walking each day or every other day, and going 5 minutes more with every walk, then one block more with each walk. It took a week or two, but I started losing the weight, and seeing that progress made all the difference and made me determined to continue. I also replaced my usual lunch sandwiches with protein smoothies - pea protein and fruit juice and water. The protein staves off the hunger if you give it a little bit of time and get busy doing something you like that takes your mind of snacking... like creating amazingly clever and funny and fun music video parodies! Unfortunately bread carbs seem worse than other carbs, and I'm a sourdough lover too. Now it's just an occasional splurge. If I buy a loaf, it goes into the freezer and I take a slice out when I need a splurge.) M neighborhood walks, now, are 8-10 miles (but usually only once or twice a week), and I've lost 30 pounds - something like 13 of your kilos, and it was a pleasure to spend money on new pants. I know you can do it too. The hardest part is sticking with it. ... and the sourdough. :) Best luck to you, Shirley.

Wow did that hit the Mark... I'm afraid we all have this problem thanks to bored eating while cooped up thanks to COVID... My gardens have helped keep from having a death like Palor... and as I no longer have my horses the motivation to get out has slipped a bit... Now if my trick knee cooperates I'll be taking long walks with my Black lab puppy ZU ZU.... I've got to do some scouting anyway as I received a hackable easel and paints this X_mas . In spring I perfer out doors between 10am and 3pm... But as the summer takes over its 5am to about 11 am and then again after the sun starts its night time sojourn. I need to loose about 25 to 40 lbs.. What that is in kilos I'm not sure .. I'll rout for you if you'll rout for the rest of us.. Loved this SONG.. Missed it when it 1st came out.
